David Archuleta and David Cook – The Today Show – VIDEO

Am I allowed to say that? David Cook makes the rainbow song so believable that he seems to be making love to the song when singing it. If I were a foreigner who didn’t know what the song is about and saw him sing like this, I would no doubt think that he was singing to his lover or ex-lover or something along this line. Definitely not about a magic rainbow on the horizon that he cannot see.

This is the power of Cook.

But the song (with the lyrics) still sucks.

Yay – that interview was shorter than the others this week and yet they managed to get in NEW questions that I couldn’t recite the answers to by rote

I really like the way David Cook always “gives it up” for David Archuleta – a real class act who demonstrates his humility in the face of his new-found stardom, how he really appreciates the events of the past several months and really respects and admires the other contestant.

Oh, and if we’re tracking his vocabulary, today we got “parameters”

I enjoy that Cookie shares non basic vocab (can’t really think of a better term for this, I am not a word nerd) in his interviews. I thought it was funny that Juliet even used one of his words back at him…. but I can’t remember what it was. Anyway, nice to see he’s got some brains as well.

btw, the host said DA and DC would be singing together? Did they? Any video?

I appreciated in the initial interview clip involving both of them that (1) Matt and Meredith seemed shocked to realize that, actually, the two Davids do like each other, and (2) Cookie stood up for Archie’s dad, which probably made it easier on Archie, having to answer questions on that.

Not only does DC have brains, but he is very generous the way he shares his huge win with DA. Always taking time to make sure to give it up for David Archuleta and mentions him often. I call that a guy with lots of confidence. And yes, he can sing that song. Who cares about the words, the tune is nice and his voice makes it the hit it is.

btw, the host said DA and DC would be singing together? Did they? Any video?

DA and DC ended up not doing the duet from what we were told by a DC fan who was there at the Plaza this morning. They each did 1 song as was shown in those vids.

Archie sounded a bit “off” in Think Of Me.

David Cook’s voice was so strong and always right on, like today on the Today Show. His earphone must have been bothering him because he finally took it out. But sure didn’t seem to hurt his performace.

They were going to sing a duet and then didn’t? That’s not right. They sound beautiful together.

Cook had some vocal gunk goin’ on near the beginning of his song….

Maybe that’s why no duet….

Hee. The word of the day is “parameters.” I don’t know what to think of this whole “Cougars for Cook” thing when almost everyone they show cheering in the audience looks to be under six.

Oh well. He doesn’t seem to mind.

I can’t believe I’m sort of getting attached to the Lucky Charms song. Never saw that one coming…

If DA was off, I’d like to have off-days that good.

I think the “vocal gunk” was him having issues with his in-ear monitor. If you watch the video, you can see him fiddling around with the controls on his belt. Midway, he just decides to take it off and that’s when the performance becomes better.

Didn’t Archie complain about being cold, or something? Dang! What’s the temp over there?

Climate change wreaks havoc on the vocals. This I know.

Yeah, I listened to it twice more and I’m still not hearing any vocal gunk. My guess would be that they ran out of time for that segment so gave up on the idea of the 3rd song (the duet).

I wonder if Cook has ever had to sing this early in the morning. I am SO not a morning person. If I had to do those shows, I would sound like hell every time.

This morning was the mid 50′s. I’m still kicking myself for missing this, I work right around the corner, I have no excuse but sheer laziness for not getting up that early.

I thought they both sounded good and I enjoyed the interview clip before the performance as well. I do wish they’d have done the duet together.

I wish they’d stop bringing up the Cougars for Cook thing already, its getting as tired as the other questions most interviewers keep asking them.

I think both Davids had to rush over to the CBS Early Show for another concert, thus the shorter song list. I think DA’s performance was on today (I read somewhere that he sang “Angels”), and DC’s performance airs tomorrow.

I think they both sounded great. DC almost stumbled on his magic rainbow line (heh) and had a little bit of “morning voice” at the beginning, but damn, he hit the glory note. It’s nice to see them so happy and relaxed.

David Cook is definitely the adult and more literate. More personality. He can sell a song. It’s going to take Archie time to get over his “aw shucks” personality. But can somebody please dress David Cook? Enough with the grungie looking clothes. I don’t know what I’d like to see him in, but what he’s wearing is tired.

Loved how much Cookie was enjoying that big outdoor crowd. He’s such a natural, no nerves at all — just pours it on.

And I’m not sure….isn’t Half Dead Broads for Cook catchier than Cougars?

David A’s “aw shucks” is his personality. I find it genuine and refreshing. His interview skilz are growing by leaps and bounds. I don’t want him becoming affected and fake. He should just be himself. As the EW trilogy attests, it seems to be working.

David Cooks clothes are the shizz, he was wearing a wicked ass pair of boots yesterday. I have a freaking thing for shoes, they were molten lava hot. LOL. He doesn’t need to change a thing, imho.

I am just a lazy ass, cause I could have gone this morning, but the idea of getting on the train before dawn it just not appealing. I know that they usually have cd signing the week of release, so I will make one of them I am sure. I’ve done that for a couple of idol alumni.

Half Dead Broads for Cook is funny as hell. I do like that instead of Cougars.

Did you notice Cook’s eyes kept scanning the crowd, it looked like he was reading the signs. At one point, it looked like he pointed to someone in the crowd (at their sign, I’m assuming), I wish they had shown what he was looking at.

I love the scruffy rocker look- it’s much more HIM. and he just needs jeans and t-shirt or shirt to look good.

I thought his voice was not at its best, the morning hours are not his forte (remember him saying he never woke up before 12 before Idol lol).

They are getting some sleep now hopefully and they are both happy as clams – so nice to see!

Yes, DC had a little gunk in his throat, but cleared it fast enough. And I hate the way they act like only the older crowd likes David Cook. My eleven yr old son loves Cook and so does my 20 yr old daughter. They make it sound like only older women like him. Not true. I am under 40 and I love him too. All age groups love Cook and not because of his age but because he is an amazingly talented guy.

I heard that on the radio too, they said they’d have clips up at their website. I can’t access it from work but I’m going to check it out tonight.

I just replayed the clip of Archie’s performance and was it me or did Matt Lauer say that coming up next would be Cook and then a duet? They must’ve have been pressed for time. Not that I’ll see it as I don’t have tickets, but I hope D2 perform a duet on the tour. Although I got the impression from the LKL interview that Archie wasn’t crazy about how they sounded on Hero.

I think DA was saying “That was awesome” to Cook after Cook finished singing when Cook went “Give it up for David Archuleta!” They’re just really cute together .

I’m with you candie, it’s not just about the older gals. My 13 year old boys (twins) really like him too. They bought all his itunes downloads and were majorly pissed that the studio version of Baba O’Reilly didn’t come out. I found the lyrics to Innocent yesterday at their computer desk — one of my sons fancies himself a singer — and I’ve been hearing a lot of it. That and Billie Jean (complete with mega drama).

Not just the Cougars.

They’ll see as the concerts start up. Sure there’ll be parents — but the twenties, tweens and kids will be there too. Guys even. Wel’ll see who they’re screaming for.

The Davids OWNED that crowd. yay for S7 star power!

Okay..I now oficially have fallen in love with the song! He continues to sing the shit out of it.

I’m also sick of this Cougar crap-the term is just stomach turning. It was obvious from the audience here that his fans are of ALL ages.

I love David Cook but he needs to stop pimping Archuleta whenever he shares the stage with him.

Oy! That was a very nice rendition of TOML. I like Cookie when he sings like that and I just now started to like that song, too.

I also find that I really, really like Archie’s voice. I didn’t pay much attention to him during the show (until the finale, that is) but he has really grown on me these last couple of weeks.

Another day, another great interview/performance. What will I do next week when Cook is not all over my screen?

I do really like the two of them together. Archie is cute as heck, but Cookie is without a doubt, my absolute favorite. He may just be my favorite Idol, ever! Wow!

That last picture looks almost like Cook pulled a Juliet and pinched Archie’s cheek, lol. I love these two guys together and I enjoy seeing them interact. Regardless of how some of their fans may have gotten competitive, and how AI tried to get it to seem like a dogfight in the finale, these two have never behaved that way and I respect them both for that. At the end of the day, they really are apples and oranges. Each is wonderful in their own way, and are nothing alike. Which you prefer comes down to individual taste.

ugh, i dont know if everyone has moved on from this post, but i’m putting it here since its tv apprearance/video related. i have a dilemma!
i have dial up (god, i know right?) and i used to could watch videos on youtube, AFTER the played completely thru the first time. but now YT has a new format or whatever and it doesnt work! how can i watch my videos now? i am very sad! can anyone offer any suggestions, other than getting rid of dial up?

I hate this term “cougars” and loath “half dead broads” (though I acknowledge that this is probably more tongue in cheek).

I am first to admit, as a mumble mumble aged woman that I had a crush on David Cook. It came out. of. the. blue. But I had a fulfilling life before and during AI and am living that life after. There is nothing half dead about me!! I find both terms derogatory and very unnecessary. Both are a great disservice to his fan base.

I refuse to accept either label for myself.

Its funny you said that because I commented to a friend of mine just this afternoon that he should respond a different way to that question (and that they need to come up with different questions). My friend said “well he’s got some cougar hitting on him, what should he say that wouldn’t come across as conceited or arrogant?” I guess I could see her point. But these questions are all really repetitive, I can’t wait until they have new material to discuss.

The Davids may not realize that there are crazy fans out here watching ALL of these interviews. They probably assume it’s a new crowd every time, for whome the punch lines aren’t stale yet.

Teresa75, I just noticed this additional comment of yours. The reason his responses sound rehearsed is because… they ARE rehearsed. He’s already given the same answers to countless radio and tv stations since the Idol finale. If they keep asking the same questions, he’s sure to have the responses down pat. He barely has enough time to sleep; I don’t think we should be expecting him to think up new ways to phrase his answers so that fans who follow his every waking move won’t get bored.

Yes, he sounded a bit rehearsed but I dont think that he was given a script or anything…. It’s more of like he’s asked the same questions over and over–I kind blame the shows for not coming up with something new..

I liked his Early Edition interview/performance. Something new from him especially the British accent.
