David Archuleta is on an LDS mission in Chile. And although he performed a Christmas concert there recently, we won’t be seeing much of him until he returns home in 2014.

In the meantime, here is some behind the scenes footage along with interviews from David’s 2011 My Kind of Christmas Tour 2011 while David was in his hometown of Salt Lake City, Utah.

Thank, MJ, for posting this.  I found it very interesting seeing and hearing about what it takes to put on the show.  It is always evident that even though David started out very young, he is definitely in charge.  He has good people to work with, but he is the driving force.  Also, interesting to me is that even though there were many young people in the audience, there were many more “mature” people.  He appeals to a wide range of people which will benefit him in the long road ahead.  His VIP was attended by a wide range of fans.

Thank you David, Kari and team for this awesome BTS video.  He is so great, he left us so much to enjoy, and i am convinced that there will be more for 2013.  David thought of everything.  Yes David is very in charge of his career.  For a young man he is very good with his fans young and old. We truly miss David but it won’t be long he will be back here with us.  Merry Christmas to David, his family. David enjoy your call to your mom and family.  You must be so excited for christmas day. Also Merry Christmas to Kari & Davids team.

I enjoyed watching that video of behind the scenes footage from David’s Christmas tour last year. It was a very well done video. A nice Christmas gift for David’s fans.

Such a nice Christmas gift from David and crew!

I’m so happy that they included part of him singing the Good Place / Let It Be mashup (starting around 5:40 in the video). That was one of my favorite songs of tour and he never even sang it during any of the regular shows — just in the VIPs. He sings it with such conviction and after hearing him talk about why he wrote Good Place, I understand why it’s so meaningful to him.

The funniest part of the video was when musical director/keyboardist Mark Nilan said David likes to do “stuff” lolol. Idaho Potato Museum, anyone??

Bit of trivia for GLEE fans: Mark had a recurring role on Glee as the keyboardist of the high school jazz band. They needed someone who could play the keys well and looked like he could be in high school. He wrapped that role up right before signing on as MD for David, I believe.

How thoughtful he was of his fans as he prepared to leave. He’s a gem, a gift that keeps on giving and giving. Enjoyed revisiting the MKOC tour. Miss his voice. Miss his concerts. Miss him. Merry Christmas to David and everyone who celebrates!

Ah, just connected in my head that the footage for this video was taken the same afternoon as this amazing rehearsal video of David performing O Holy Night with the Lyceum Philharmonic: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jkffUxGPl7I One of my favorites!

It must have been quite a challenge to work in a different orchestra for all the shows that had one.

This was such a great gift.  I was there in SLC and Beaver Creek last year.  Love hearing the behind the scenes stuff.  I saw myself in the VIP and Concert videos (barely) It was a fantastic concert and knowing all he had to do that day, I am amazed that he was filming this as well.
Twitter has been aglow with excitement today @davidarchie:twitter

Thanks for that, MJ. I wonder what it was shot for? A local morning show?

FOr those who may have missed it, here is a professionally filmed synopsis of the Christmas concert in Chile earlier this month.

I wonder what it was shot for? A local morning show?

I think it was probably shot for the purpose it was used for — as a little something extra for the fans. David definitely knew he was going on the mission well before this so I’m sure he and his team were thinking of ways to provide things for the fans. I’ve heard that Kari also filmed extensively while they were in the Philippines shooting the tv series. My guess is that we might see more behind the scenes videos next year. We still have all of 2013 to make it through. Better than when he left but still quite a while!

Thanks for that video, btw. Now that’s one that I’d like to know what they had the professional filming for. Not that I’m not pleased as punch over it but it’s curious to me. My analytical mind likes to know why things happen lol.

This is so nice.  It will be good to have David back in the music scene.  That’s 2014.  WOW!

  • Heidijoy

It was shot for his Fans.  He made his Annoucement at this SLC concert and he did this during the day.  (Same shirt as the VIP)
So thoughtful and fans were excited to get it.  Thanks for the gift from Chile.

Happy Holidays to MJ and to everyone else on this great big blog!

For the Idol fans who always wonder why their favorite does not go on tour after the show, I think this video provides a pretty clear answer.  It takes lots of people to run a tour and this in turn costs lots of money. David’s Christmas tour was only a month long affair but it is still shocking how many people were involved in running it.  Without the cash David made from his Asian tour and from the Asian Tour Edition of The Other Side of Down that Sony Asia released after David left Jive, there’s no way that he could have afforded to put on this tour.

I know everyone on this board believes their favorite is the “greatest” but for me, what makes David great is not only his talent.  It’s the fact that he had this talent at such a young age (being just 12 when he won Star Search and just 16 when he started on Idol) AND has never allowed this talent go to his head or to change him as a person. The bravado you see from the young X-Factor teen stars (Rachel Crow, Astro, Emblem 3) is stunning considering how little they have actually achieved.  Yet here is David singing a stunning mashup of Good Place and Let It Be and stating that his biggest worry when doing a concert is not letting his fans down. Even at the height of his fame – the “Disney era” – you did not see him on the gossip pages of the teen rags or constantly on the red carpets, although I’m sure he had lots of opportunities. This is so refreshing when you see all the former Idol contestants desperately grasping for any publicity they can get after the show is over.

David probably could have made more money doing a few one off concerts or joining David Foster or Michael Orland on their Christmas tour.  I think the My Kind of Christmas Tour was truly a gift from David to his fans.  Something else that make David great.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to MJ and all the bloggers!

Thank you MJ for posting David Archuleta news, it is greatly appreciated.  It was such an unexpected but welcomed surprise.  It’s going on 5 years since I became a fan of someone for the first time in my life, not a short one lol and David A continues to impress me not only for his vocals but for everything else that makes him who he is. To think that he doesn’t want to disappoint us? He wants to make us proud? And these are his thoughts from day one.

Good Place was my favorite from first listen and to hear him sing it live in VIP was incredible.  The entire tour was done for his fans and to think someone was actually try to stop it and him.  Here’s hoping for more surprises in 2013 and the countdown for his return in 2014 begins :)

cool bts vid… the live vocal of good place/let it be kicks a$$ … a live album from Archie when he gets back would rawk

  • hellomusicgirl

What I wouldn’t give for a live album! A true live album. I have yet to hear a studio (or really even fancam) recording of David that comes close to capturing how his voice sounds live. I’ve been to alot of concerts and I can honestly say that he is one of the few artists whose voice sounds better live than recorded.

Not “as good as”, but better. There. That’s my big dark secret lol — I prefer David live to David recorded. I think David has to yet find the right combination to record a studio album that truly captures how his voice sounds live. I know this sounds like fan wank but I really can’t explain it if you’ve never heard him sing in person. There’s a tone, a texture, an idk that doesn’t carry through on studio recordings I’ve heard so far. I hope that he can one day find the right producer or combination or whatever to somewhat reproduce that live magic in a recorded format.

That is so true.  I remember taking my grandson’s to a VIP a few years ago.  David came to the edge of the stage and sang “Heaven” a Capella
and my oldest grandson looked at me and said, “How does he do that with his voice?”  He couldn’t really explain what he meant except that it was so perfect that it was almost not real.  It was so beautiful.

David turns 22 tomorrow.  Hard to believe it has been 5 years since David began his adventure of performing.  He has certainly been a busy guy.  5 albums, many tours in the US, a tour in England, many Asian concerts, and, of course, the TV series and Bench ad campaign.  He looks older, but still has that youthful clean look.  I love the fact that he always looks clean and put together.

Happy Birthday David!  What a nice bts for the fans. I love hearing David sing in the VIP sessions.  :)
