So a very reliable source informed me that David will be in orlando to TAPE his portion of the disney christmas parade (set to air on Dec 25th, at 10am on CBS) on Friday, December 5th (Tomorrow). I do not however know why his official site says the 10th of December (Maybe a typo, or mistake), but ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m 100% sure ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s tomorrow. I looked into the dates, and several blogs are reporting the 5th & 6th are the official taping days; so it makes sense. I also found out that performers tape on friday, and regular celebs like Regis & Kelly tape on saturday. So this means we will more than likely hear a christmas song from David for his part in the parade. David Cook, Miley Cyrus, HSM Cast, amongst others are also set to perform.

Well Archie at Disneyworld is perfect but I admit I’m surprised Cook is there.
It’s a rainbows and puppy dogs event so probably he’ll be doing a Xmas song and not LO. Somehow that just doesn’t fit the Disney vibe.

Well, Cook did a Disney World promo right after he won Idol and will be promoting the new AI attraction in Disney World too as the latest winner. Comes with the territory. And the Disney Christmas parade ain’t nothing to sneeze at. I somehow doubt Cook is worried about ruining his street cred by doing this gig.

The Christmas Parade at Disney is a total cheesefest. I can’t wait to watch it.

LOL Yeah, I’m thinking Christmas music too. Since Cook is pretty much “Mr. Disney,” seeing how he’s going to be launching the Disney American Idol thingy, I’d have been surprised had he NOT been there.

New artists aren’t exactly in a position to be picky about what gigs they perform at either. I think it’s great they’ll both be there. Promo is promo.

Sorry, after I posted I realized that it’s a Xmas parade and I think they do Xmas music or Disney music exclusively. I don’t think they do any current songs but I’m no expert. (So probably no Crush either). They usually do a crazy Princess medley (I think Katharine McPhee did it last year.) I wonder who gets it this year?

I also have to say that I find it very amusing that fans of American Idol, the cheesiest show on earth, often complain about all the cheese that comes with being on the show and post-show gigs booked for the winner. Everything from the coronation song to the recent association with Disney and even the using the phrase”pop music” in reference to some of the rock-ish singers that have come off the show often make fans really nervous. After 7 seasons, I’m surprised that there are still fans who expect anything different. AI will never have true street cred no matter who wins or what genre of music they sing. There will always be some element of pop to every “rocker” who makes it very far on the show.

Wow poor David A if he is there today because he is doing the tree lighting in LA tomorrow with a VIP preformance before the tree lighting. Looks like it is Coast to Coast for Archie.

I don’t have any problem with the idols being associated with Disneyland- just the Disney teen stars- I don’t think they are great artists, to put it nicely.

Now THAT I can agree to. I find it insulting to say Archie’s just like the Disney singers. That he ain’t. He can sing so much better than them. Plus his voice is too mature sounding for all the Disney crapola that Miley and JB sing.

FWIW – I don’t think of Disney when I think of DA either. In fact, knowing nothing about Idol history with this event, I was surprised that DA was going to be there for the very same reason that I was NOT surprised Cook would be. Hope that makes sense. Neither are Disney-type performers. After all, AI is its own special kind of (elitist? aged? smoked? stinky?) cheese. :smiley2_tb:

I don’t think we should be too concerned about David Cook taking a page out of Taylor’s playbook. Yeah, sorry, IMO, there was nothing nuanced, subtle or artistic about ^^ that.

He hit it out of the park at the Rockefeller Center Tree Lighting with his hauntingly beautiful Happy Christmas. Unless Mickey slips him a mickey, I think it’s a safe assumption that DC will be fabulous at DW, too.

I think Archie will fabulous as well. No doubt about it, AI/19 must be pinching themselves everyday for DC & Archie.

IMO, what Cook has done so well, and what never ceases to amaze me, is embrace the cheese (not you personally, Cheese or if personally, I want to hear ALL about it). He’s never embarassed and always finds a way to work with things that might distract a lesser man. He knew what he was getting into with this Idol thing and will never apologize or belittle it. I applaud him for that (don’t know that I could do it).

ETA to add that I detest Disney parades. The only one I’ve been to (and I was at Disneyland for many private events being a So Cal girl) my 3 year old almost got trampled and my 6′ 4″ brother almost got in a fight over his niece practically being trampled. My 3 year old is now 17 and thriving, but I still have issues….

SoCal native, so grew up near Disneyland. Then I worked for Disney – so yeah, am rather scarred. Shudder. Make that a bottle of wine, Cookie.

I live in Orlando and have family (and friends and roommates and former roommates) who work at Disney, so I kind of have to embrace it. Seriously though, I think it is a great place. Fun, at least.

I’m sad I missed seeing the performances live today, but I figured they’d be taped on a day when I was at work and couldn’t go anyway, so that’s okay.

Hey disney loves archie lol they are STILL playing crush alot. He can go see minnie again haha.

But yeah I hope they both get to have that dinner together or at least talk to each other lol. Even though Archie has to be back to the west coast for tomorrow.

So I grew up in the San Gabriel Valley (Glendora to be exact…not all that far from Disneyland). I moved to Chicago as a teenager and moved back to So Cal (Yorba Linda, land of burning landslides) when my kids were 1 1/2 and 3 1/2. It took my dh and I over a month to realize that the kids weren’t out of bed when we heard those noises, it was indeed the Disneyland fireworks. It took us much longer to realize that nobody left a sh*tty diaper in the house, it was the Chino dairy farms…

I searched around the disboard but nobody posted what Cookie sang. Does anybody know?

LOL gingerly. You can hear and see the Magic Kingdom fireworks from my brother and SIL’s house, too. And I can actually hear the booms from the Universal fireworks from mine. Such is living in the land of a zillion theme parks, I guess.

OMG, my eyes! I didn’t watch Taylor’s season at all, but I was curious to see how he put this alleged rock spin on White Christmas… and let me just say that is not what I call rock. I only had a vague idea of Taylor’s performance… um, style from friends who watched that season (they loved Daughtry and Elliot), but I guess I still wasn’t quite prepared to see the… dancing, I guess? Anyway, back on topic: one thing I always appreciated about DC was that he’s not a one-trick pony, and even though he can rock up arrangements to great success, he has the vocal chops to pull off a song straight, and the wisdom to discern when to rock it out, and when to reel it in with an acoustic thing, depending on the venue and audience. Also, I love Disney World and the characters, but not Disney Channel and their teen “stars”…

Michelle- I am confused. You talked about NYC tree lighting. Did Cook do that? Does he have jingle jams too?

LK08, the link to the tree lighting is on the frontpage of MJ’s thread…He does have maybe 3 jingle jams (or whatever they are called wherever). I think with those concerts he wanted to make sure his music and the other music was complimentary. I think he’s not going for the urban or hip/hop extremely pop shows. The 3 I know of are Columbus, Atlanta and Orlando. They all seem to be acoustic. I think that works better for him and for his fans.

I like the strategery. All of his initial TV appearances have featured LO and Declaration, while recently, he started going acoustic with WPLJ, Sirius and the treelighting. He’s following it up with the Acoustic Jingleheimersmith, he’s trying to appeal to a different type of listener…or expand his fanbase.

I want to add that DC mentioned in an interview that he had to agree to some concessions to get his 2 weeks off this month. I always wondered if this Disney gig was one of those.

I think this gig was already in the works for whoever won AI7. He’s the image model this year for AI “The Ride.”

At least with Taylor’s Rockefeller performance you weren’t bored. I really like Cook but that was a listener performance he did . It definitely, to me was not a visual one. I’d love to have him loose the instrument and get up and move and emote a little. He’s got a great voice and is a cutey but I’d like to be entertained more. Maybe that’s why I like Taylor, he sings great, he entertains and he leaves you smiling. I’ve heard rockers aren’t suppose to be fun, they tend to be serious, is that right?

David is usually good at being appropriate, in the moment. Happy Christmas/War is Over is the type of song that might need a little more gravitas. Also David was mighty sick so that might have played a role in the performance who knows. It was low key I agree.

But if you happened to catch David on tewer with AI he was “rather amusing” There was the infamous FlashDanceDave! which consisted of David pouring a bottle of water over his head during Billie Jean. But that was scratched because that ended up shorting out his ear mics and guitar.

Then there was classic FlexiDave! were he did a back bend with his guitar during Billie Jean. But he hurt his leg doing that so that was shelved for sometime while he healed. He brought it back and rocked it a few more times. I think the yoga helped.

And then there was the last day of the tour were he smashed his guitar to bits at the end of Billie Jean.

Come to think of it. It might be better if David just stays still during his performances. Self preservation and all that.

So ya know. Mileage and all that.

The only Xmas radio concert that DC is doing that I know is acoustic is Orlando. I don’t think that ATL is. But I do think that they selected ones where his music fits with the other acts, which makes sense.

Mileage definitely does vary on the Xmas performances that DC did at Rockefeller Center. They struck me as very appropriate for the venue and the song, and seemed to walk the line that DC is trying to walk here—that he’s an artist, but here is doing another cover song (or two) at something that could be cheesy. He managed to be substantive while, at the same time, engaging the camera. It sounds like he managed to do the same thing at the DW thing—okay, I’m here at this Xmas parade, Neal and I will pull out the acoustic guitars, and I’ll manage to fit in without overly cheesing out.From what that one poster said, it sounds like it went over well.

Taylor’s White Christmas performance is one of my favorites! Haha – his wild abandon in dancing makes me smile. Love the soulful inflections in his voice, too. I am also a big D squared fan – go figure. I love them all!

^I don ´t think he will be performing, but some people at a WaltDisney forum are saying he might perform today at 11:00 am, but he has to be at California before 6:30 pm for the Hope Lighting so I don ´t know…

This is the closest I found to anything Archucook

OH! One of the first things Dave said was something like “where’s my buddy?” and looked at the back of the audience. I turned around and there was Archie! He was in a production tent, I guess doing something for the parade as well? I thought the Girl Scouts in the front row were going to turn and run and leave Dave without an audience they were so excited, but they ended up staying put!

So once David got on stage and settled in, he asked us to all turn around and wave at his friend in the tent behind us… DAVID ARCHULETA!!! Yes, he was there but not performing. I only got a glimpse of him through the crowd and wasn’t able to take a picture. He was a little embarrassed (imagine that) and turned around. I also saw his dad (natch). I talked to my sister later in the afternoon — her office is at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The two Davids were in the lobby of her office building earlier in the day, but she missed them!!
