This is the first time I have responded to any blog, but I felt compeled to do so. Please go to Andew Cooks web site and listen to the brothers' National anthem duet. There is no backround distraction, just their voices. It is very obvious who sings which parts. You will find the versitility of davids voice as usual, beautiful registry with the ability to change his vocals to both bass and tenor without struggle. While Andrew has to be credited for his vocals also, there is not doubt which brother has the better talent. Andrew has a lot to learn and a good teacher to learn from. Some of the comments that I've been reading have just be so critical and knit picky of David Cook. And also rediculous. Just enjoy David for his talent ( maybe not always perfect, so what! Not a whole lot of rock stars are, could you imagine Mick Jagger or Stephen Tyler singing the NA?!! )and also the person he is, a charasmatic "rocker" who has caught the attention of many people of all ages.

I was singing the high notes at the beginning and the endà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ and i had the lower notes during the And the rockets red glare section. The mystery is now solved!

I still don't believe it. I went back and watched it several times after seeing this quote and I still think David stayed on the high parts (except on "that our flag was still there" in which David kept with the melody). The only reasons I have for this are a) I know David's voice, I listen to it everyday on repeat (but I'm sure alot of you can say that) and 2) Andrew's mouth on "ramparts" is open a little wider to let out that low note. And I can't explain why that makes sense to me but it does. Now back to real life where trivial things such as this don't matter. Dammit Cookie!

wordnerdarchie, let's call him on that number he gave us and apologize right now. In fact, let's offer to take him out to dinner as a small token of our sincerity. Andrew can come, too.

Yes, I noticed Dave did that big breath thing and little shake before they were going to sing. It reminded me of the time he did it after the judges comments following Little Sparrow. That was the "high blood pressure spike" night. FWIW - I have trouble with elevated BP too, and when it get's too high, I always feel like I need to take big, deep breaths in order to slow my heart rate. I wonder if that's David's coping mechanism in response to quick pulse/BP issues? It's just a theory.

That was so cool. Thanks for posting that. It's nice to hear their voices harmonizing so well together.

I couldn't be sure who was singing which part, either. They sound very similar. It would be cool if David has a song with his brother on the album.

MJ,

So did I misunderstand Andrew's entry? Is so, I apologize to Andrew too. We'll probably never know for sure, will we, as to who sang what. It sure leads to lots of discussion. Who would have guessed it's so hard to tell the difference between them?

I thought it very interesting how they were able to time the song so that it coincided with the jets passing over head. I noticed they had a monitor with the words to the Anthem scrolling. I wondered whether it was there to help with the timing in addition to making sure there was no lyric disaster. :thumbup_tb:

LOL. Nevermind. It was AC on the "Dora and the Explorer" low notes. I still think DC can have trouble in his lower register, but it's not a big deal.

Actually, I thought they were switching off parts, but could not be sure.

Well, I think Andrew's facebook entry puts to rest the idea that DC's lower register is suspect.

So David was singing the low notes until he pops up to do "and the rockets red glare....that our flag was still there." , and then transitions back down for the low notes in the ending. That is a very difficult thing to do. Harkens back to his audition when he said he was very versatile vocally.

And the "quirky" note on ramparts was Andrew's? Do we all apologize to David now or later? :lol_wp:

OK, to solve the argument on who sang which part, here's a note from Andrew, which was posted in a facebook group:

Okay okay okay okay....i will tell you....tell all your friends! lol

I thought it was a very pretty rendition. David definitely seemed less nervous than last time, but probably not in ideal voice 12 hours after finishing a 53 date tour in a different state. I saw a photo of him arriving for the event in the same shirt he wore at the Tulsa Idol show. I really don't care if he isn't the greatest anthem singer evah. That song doesn't usually make the album, lol.

David's lower register has never been his friend. We learned that during AI. He's not a perfect singer, just very versatile.

Andrew, on the other hand, sounds like more of a straight singer, who while not as versatile as David, seems to be extremely solid with his gift.

As we can see, one balanced out the other.

I've heard it said, and witnessed it, that relatives have great harmony (the closer the relation, the better). I could hear that in this instance.

KEEP THIS THREAD FOCUSED ON THE COOK BROTHERS. We aren't going to be arguing about which Idol sings the Anthem better in this thread. Fans of other Idols who feel like dropping by to jab the Cook fans? Please don't do that. Thank you.
