Daughtry’s new music video for their latest single “September” premiers on vevo.com tonight. Watch the full vid after the jump!

The song, co-written with his guitarist Josh Steely is about growing up in a small town, but knowing that someday he’d have to leave to make something of himself.

The video is shot in an empty theater, with the band performing on stage in front of home movies of Chris and his family.

The songs lyrics “Yeah, We knew we had to leave this town, But we never knew when and we never knew how, We would up here the way we are” inspired the title of the band’s latest album Leave This Town.

Thanks for posting! As a die hard fan I LOVE LOVE LOVE it!! But I’m totally interested to see what other people think!

I really like this song, and it’s Chris’ favorite off the album so I knew it would be a single from the beginning. Part of me wishes they would’ve chosen a more upbeat or rock song for the 3rd single, this one has the same vibe as the first two and doesn’t really reflect the versatility of the CD….but oh well what do I know?? haha.

I really love the song it’s my favorite on this cd.I really didn’t care much for Daughtry on Idol but his one of my favorite non idol winner from the show.Next to Adam, and Allison, and David A.

Nice! Now maybe I can think of this song when I hear “september” rather than the song that Adam did from that controversial “other” album release (the one that later changed the name to “want”)

I am Daughtry fan and have both of his albums. September is one of my least favorite songs on this album. It certainly isn’t the right song for this time of the year. It’s summer time and you need something a little bit more upbeat and this song doesn’t do it for me. My favorite is Call your name, and I hope it will be released as a single.

  • JJ123

My favorite is Say your name, and I hope it will be released as a single.

Call Your Name? That’s my favorite too!! I very highly doubt it will ever be released :( It’s never been mentioned as a possibility, Every Time You Turn Around and Ghost Of Me both have often plus it’s co-written by ex drummer Joey Barnes, and seeing as he’s no longer with the band I don’t think they’d go with it.

You Don’t Belong is my favorite song from LTT but I understand it may not be right for a mainstream single. I also agree that all three singles from LTT have been the same tempo and vibe but that said September is the best of the three. The simplicity of the video doesn’t take away from the beauty of the song and that is really nice. There could have been a couple more varying scenes and settings but I appreciate a video that goes for less is more since the norm seems to be so opposite of that. Really great job here by Chris and the band, he sells the song so well it is easy to see it means a lot to him.

tigervixxxen ~ You Don’t Belong is often played on a couple rock stations here in Chicago….not sure if it was officially released as a rock single or not though. I agree that September is the best of the 3 and pretty much everything else you said lol.

The pictures and clips are of all the band members, not just Chris and his family. I do like that they included so much of his wife Deanna, she’s an awesome lady.

I really like Daughtry’s voice, but a lot of his songs sound too similar and repeat a lot. I just youtubed some of the songs mentioned here since I’ve only listened to his radio stuff, and they’re a little bit different, but undoubtedly the same type of daughtry music.

Every band has a “sound”. At any rate, I love the simplicity and beauty of this video. CYN is my fav too but alas, I doubt we’ll ever get to even hear it live again. I wish they’d put out one of the rock songs too but September means a lot to Chris.

I agree that a lot of Daughtry’s songs sound too similar. I would prefer You Don’t Belong, What I Meant to Say or Ghost of Me (I think I have the titles right) as singles rather than another ballad. Not a big fan of September.

I heard this song on KBIG for the first time yesterday and I didn’t like it that much.

Daughtry is great and this song has such a personal meaning for Chris that I love it. The video is nice to watch. Does anyone know anything about his brother? I saw Daughtry when they toured with Bon Jovi. He was good then and I would love to see him again just have not had the chance.

  • Studio57

Sounds like any other Daughtry song. Just not a fan of the post grunge cock rock.

  • Harborchick

I love these kind of videos. All of the old photos and video clips always make me a little teary. I am sappy that way. Good luck to Daughtry.

I thought the video — and the song — got more interesting about 2 1/2 minutes in. The home videos an photos are a nice touch. But I’m still meh about this song overall.

  • thebluemartini

This just might be my favorite Daughtry video.

I love September, but I was kinda hoping that Every Time You Turn Around would be the next single. But oh well, I’m still happy :)

I love Call Your Name!! That is my favorite of this album!! Nice video for September though; I like seeing all the old pictures…

Leave This Town is the best album I’ve heard in years; I liked Daughtry’s first album but this sophomore effort is on a whole new level. My favorite song is ‘Open Up Your Eyes’, followed closely by ‘You Don’t Belong To Me’ and ‘Tennessee Line’. That’s not to say I don’t also love the other tracks (‘Call Your Name’ is one that has grown on me to become one of my favorites). I think ‘September’ is excellent, even if it’s not my top pick from the album, and will serve very well as the next single (seems to be doing strongly already), but this video is superb, maybe my favorite Daughtry video to date. Very happy with this, and for the Daughtry boys.

WHAT??? This has the same intro as David Archuleta’s “She’s Not You”…just take a listen…http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sx6hUpabFUU.

Most of the photos are of me, Dee and the guys as kids…or just younger:) And the mullets are not being worn by me FYI…

This is what Chris had to say on Twitter. I thought it wasn’t just his family pics.

I enjoyed the video and the song. I’m not sure if it’s my favorite but do like it. I’m really liking the B side songs also. :)

  • lifeisgood

My favorite is Call your name, and I hope it will be released as a single.

Call Your Name is one of my favorites too – I enjoy so many of Daughtry’s songs. Love his voice.

  • duncan

I’m a huge Daughtry fan. This isn’t my favorite song but I do love the video. My favorite song is Call Your Name. I’d love to hear it on the radio someday.
