According to this schedule Chris Daughtry helpfully tweeted this afternoon, the band will take the stage at 10:10 pm and 10:37 pm.

Ha ha. I’m watching now, and Ry Ry is in rare form!

UPDATE: After the Jump: “Life After You”, “Every time You Turn Around”, “Home” , “No Surprise” and an interview with Ryan Seacrest.

This is turning out to be a sweet deal for Chris and the band. Home will be the 3rd song as Ryan just said. Hopefully this will give the new album a good boost.

    ETA: Correction NS and Home.

  • yeahyeahsure

They did great. I love the 2nd song they performed. I hope it ends up being a single. Can’t wait to see Home. I still love that song.

  • CathyMK

Darn it. I was watching a movie and didn’t tune in until the 10:37 performance. Did I miss Life After You? Love that song, meh on No Surprise. It’s great that Daughtry gets to do 3 (?) songs though! They deserve the exposure.

ETA: And, MJ to the rescue with the video! You got those songs up fast! Very cool that they did 4 songs in primetime. That should give them a nice bump.

  • Pam

Did I miss Life After You?

Yep. That was the first song. Actually, they ended up doing 4 songs. It was great exposure indeed. :)

  • itsalleternal

Must be especially difficult in the pouring rain out there…

  • koshka

I’m not watching… oh is it raining thats a bummer.

wow that was fast.they were good..

  • clearone

I’m glad Daughtry got to perform 4 songs in primetime. That’s wonderful for him!

……so does this mean that Adam would have had 4 primetime songs as well? Oh what could have been……

  • vanjess38

I love him and his voice. Very simple and beautiful performance. Simple is always beautiful.

  • mmb

A guy just had his face in J-Los crotch…..just sayin

    wrong thread.

Ugh. Don’t even make me think about it. And Adam needs this boost more than Chris :-( I didn’t watch any ABC tonight. In fact, I mostly just skipped all the NYE shows except the few minutes before the ball dropped.

  • Pam

It was kind a weird seeing Daughtry, J-LO, and Marc Anthony dancing like the rockettes. Only in America peeps. Hee

I didn’t watch it either. I just flipped it on to see Dick Clark and there they all were. I’m bummed. I really hope Adam has a kick-ass night tonight but …… on to 2010.

    .

No worries! Everything happens for a reason :-) He’ll be just fine. ABC just sucks big time.

  • windmills

‘ ¦’ ¦so does this mean that Adam would have had 4 primetime songs as well? Oh what could have been’ ¦’ ¦

No it doesn’t. Adam was supposed to be part of the Las Vegas taping which when ABC canceled, freed Adam up to go to Jingle Balls. Adam was never scheduled to perform in Times Square. So we missed out on 1 Adam song.

Saleswise IMO this is not a high impact gig. It might cushion the massive drop in sales this week a little but people are all partying now and not so much paying attention to the performances. I think if you’re playing live in Times Square it’s cool to have that experience but other than that this isn’t that big a deal. Since Adam wasn’t scheduled for Times Square anyway he didn’t lose that experience and who knows, maybe he’ll get to headline this one day like Daughtry and JLo did.

  • breakdown

    TY!

  • Mary102

windmills, I didn’t know that – that actually makes me feel a lot better :-) Yeah, give me 40 minutes of Adam any day over 1 song. Though why did Daughtry get so many for having been, if I’m not mistaken, Adam’s replacement? They weren’t scheduled to perform, as far as I know, until after he was kicked off.

Plus, the weather really sucked in Times Square :-) I’d prefer to perform in LA or Vegas!

  • caroleinfla

I didn’t watch, but in the picture mj posted. Chris looks sick. I hope the weather didn’t do him in.

  • yeahyeahsure

They weren’t scheduled to perform, as far as I know, until after he was kicked off.

Nah… The boys have talked about performing at Times Square back in late October/early November during their VIP M&Gs so they were booked early on and didn’t replace anyone.

  • CathyMK

Saleswise IMO this is not a high impact gig.

The size of the sales bump depends on the artist. Just as an example, David Cook tends to get a nice bump from any and all TV exposure. Jordin’s tends to be much smaller for the same types of appearances. I haven’t paid close enough attention to Daughtry or the AI8ers appearances to know how it usually affects their sales, but I don’t think you can dismiss having millions of people seeing Daughtry perform 4 songs in an hour as not having any impact at all. It may give them immediate bump, or it may just add to people’s familiarity with those songs, so that they’ll be more likely to purchase the songs/album after they’ve heard him on the radio a few more times. IMHO, most artists would be thrilled with that kind of exposure. That’s why big names like Green Day and the Black-Eyed Peas, both of whom were on TV tonight, show up for these NYE shows year after year.

  • windmills

Though why did Daughtry get so many for having been, if I’m not mistaken, Adam’s replacement? They weren’t scheduled to perform, as far as I know, until after he was kicked off.

It was only the announcement that was late – remember that announcements don’t happen the second that something is scheduled. Like Kelly and Carrie were booked for the AMAs as far back as September or even earlier but they weren’t announced until after Adam and other acts as performers. It’s not unusual for an event’s feature acts to be announced later. I don’t even think there’d been an official announcement of Dick Clark’s lineup when Adam was canceled. Adam’s involvement was leaked by his own people in the Billboard article.

Daughtry didn’t replace Adam. If Adam was replaced, it was by somebody who performed for the Las Vegas segment which was taped a couple weeks ago. Daughtry was probably booked as the Times Square co-headliner a long time ago seeing as he’s been getting a bunch of big gigs this holiday season (like the Cowboys halftime show on Thanksgiving, following in the footsteps of Carrie and Kelly).

For Dick Clark’s show the headlining acts are in Times Square and get 3-4 songs (I remember Carrie did a medley of 3 songs when she headlined in Times Square a couple years ago). The people in the taped segments (in LA in other years but in Vegas this year) get 1 song apiece. Or maybe it’s 2 with 1 of the songs being after midnight. So OK I guess we probably missed out on 2 Adam songs.

CathyMK: Maybe there’s a long term impact but January is such a weak sales month that IMO there’s not much casual buying going on. I agree the exposure is nice and like I said it’s a nice thing to experience being up there in Times Square for New Year’s. It doesn’t hurt but as far as sales alone I don’t think it’s a big booster. Maybe on downloads though.

  • mcm

Daughtry didn’t replace Adam. Chris was telling the fans from the NYC area at the AC and CT concerts (in early Nov) at the VIP M&G that they’d be at Times Square for NYE, so they could plan to be there. He asked them not to spread the word until it was officially announced.

Great job by Chris and the band! Thanks for the vids, MJ.

  • tinydance

Daughtry is looking really handsome tonight. ;)

  • Daniel B

Man, that looked *cold*, but Daughtry was nevertheless excellent. Chris was backing off the vocals on certain parts, but overall still the boys put on quite a show. I love the punch of ‘Every Time You Turn Around’ when it hits the chorus, the hook is very catchy: “I see you standing there waiting for me…”

I know all 4 songs were shortened for time, but I actually dug the instrument arrangement of ‘Home’ better than any version I’ve heard before. Looked like a cold night though, couldn’t have been easy. Proud of the boys, they always put on a great show.

  • butte009

My mistake thinking I could read a Daughtry thread without Adam’s name in it. Aren’t the two threads with his name in the Headline enough for some people? Skimming right along…..

I missed Daughtry’s performances because the Wii-people took over the tv. We flipped it on for Dick’s new countdown of 13, 12, 10, 11, 9…… But the guy in a living legend so I guess all is good.

I haven’t gotten around to Daughtry’s second album yet so thanks for the videos MJ!

  • bean99

Love that Daughtry got to be on the big NYE show. They did a Fox show when the 1st album came out but think this is the one that most people watch. They did very well which is impressive given the weather.

I don’t know about you but I find it painful to watch Dick Clark these days. I know it’s his baby but wish he’d retire from the show. I don’t see that happening and I guess he deserves the choice.

  • Trina

So I braved the cold and rain and standing around way too long in Times Square but you know what? It was worth it! It was so mobbed and there’s so much adrenaline flowing the weather doesn’t even bother you after a while. Chris and the boys kicked so much ass and he did sound great considering how cold it was. I had a great spot by the stage and just had a blast. I’m very happy for him he had this opportunity, and after the amount of albums he’s sold and the amount of hits he’s spawned he very much deserved this showcase IMO.

  • CathyMK

Thanks for the recap, Trina! Glad you had a good time. I was feeling really sorry for all of the people out in the cold and wet.

  • babybelle32

Daughtry sounded good, especially given how cold it was. According to tvbythenumbers.com, the 10:00 and 10:30 ratings for the broadcast were amazing. They didn’t post the numbers for 11:30 and later, but at least we know that a lot of people were watching when Chris and the guys performed.

  • yeahyeahsure

Thanks for the recap Trina! Glad to hear that you had a great time.

  • Mtlfan

Nice!! like him more and more
    Home is a great song!
    Will get his cd

  • Mary102

Hey, guys – thank you for the clarification that Daughtry wasn’t replacing Adam. I think I just jumped to that conclusion on my own because Daughtry was announced right after Adam was dropped, and I thought about the AI connection of one idol replacing another.

This makes me feel a lot better about the whole thing. Daughtry definitely had a great gig lined up with this, and if Adam was just gonna do the 1 song in Vegas, not getting to do that wasn’t such a loss in the bigger scheme of things :-)

Congrats to Daughtry! I just hope Adam has a part of his success some day :-)

  • erinnthered

I’m felling so magnanimous towards the season 5 people now. I love how time heals.

    Daughtry had a great performance!
