Daughtry – “Leave This Town” – Sneak Peek

I’ve listen quite a bit already and I am freakin ecstatic!!! I LOVE LOVE LOVE it!!!! LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE!!!!! I loved CD #1 and I honestly think this one is better!! Lots of hits on there!!! I mostly love that it’s the whole band on this one and they each have a cowrite credit….very cool!!

Right now Every Time You Turn Around is the one that keeps playing in my head….there are so many awesome ones, nice mix of tempos too!!

Several hits on this. I will be buying this. Personally, I think it’s even better than their debut album. You really get a feel that the whole band contributed to this record. I like Life After You, Call Your Name, Every Time You Turn Around, Learn My Lesson, Ghost Of Me, September and What I Meant To Say the most.

Tracks 1-3 blend together. Meh. I kinda liked Life After You but it is sooo long. Track 5 is better. Wow, it’s all very Nickelback-ish. And I never thought Daughtry sounded that much like Nickelback before. Okay, I’ve heard enough for now. Maybe I will try it again tomorrow.

I really like it!!! I didn’t like Leave This Town originally, but after hearing it 100x on the radio, I do now. Heh Well, there’s another $11.99 I can kiss goodbye.

I said this in the other thread, but to me it sounds like their first album on steriods. Still not my thing, but I can’t imagine their fans won’t be thrilled. I liked the last song the most.

Some of the songs run together and sound too much alike. He is starting to verge on the Nickelback sound where everything sounds the same. I wish he would use his beautiful falsetto a little more. It is solid but falls short of their debut.

Fantastic! It’s simply wonderful! Each member of the band really has a chance to shine on this album, and I love it! “September” gets a really big WOW from me, but I love all of the songs!

Nickelback is one of the most successful, highest selling current rock bands in the world…..the comparison is not a bad thing. However I think Chris has a much stronger voice than Chad and that makes a huge difference.

Too much like Nickelback to me and sounds too much like the first one. Guess I’ll save me some money.

Well, if you’ve got a formula that works, I guess why change it? This easily could have been the second half of a double album release with their first record, instead of a followup release. Because their music style really hasn’t evolved notably since 2006– at all.

That being said, there are five standout tracks: “Every Time You Turn Around”; “Leave This Town”; “September”; “Learn My Lesson”; “Tennessee Line” (smart to duet with Vince Gill for the country crossover potential). Everything else is middling fare that is indistinguishable from the tracks that were the middling fare ones on their first record.

Also, “No Surprise”, may be the worst song on the album. It’s “no surprise” at all then that RCA released it as the lead single.

A part of me honestly wants this record to struggle like Kelly’s has so DAUGHTRY (not to mention DAUGHTRY fans) will be knocked down a few pegs. But, if a band releases the same record twice, and the first time it sells four and a half million, I’m sure the second time it will sell at least a couple more million….

I’ve listened to the entire CD now. I don’t care for the first song and think it’s a poor reflection of the CD as a whole. As soon as I got to songs 3, 4, 5 and so on, I began to think WOW, this is going to be a SMASH album. I think there are 5-6 radio hits just waiting to happen. It’s very strong compilation of songs. Very impressed, Daughtry.

I love this! Pretty solid album yet again. My favorites are “You Don’t Belong”, “September”, “Ghost Of Me” and “Call Your Name”. I wish Chris and the boys all the success! Personally, I think the album is diversive enough to offer something for every type of fan that they have. And possibly pick up a few more outside their genre.

It’s getting old seeing everybody act like they are clever for saying Daughtry sounds like Nickelback. Just listen to Tennessee line or Call Your Name and then stop saying they are Nickelback Part II. I know it’s just your opinion and I respect that, but once 500 people have already said it, come up with a new way to bash them at least, keep it interesting.

It all sounds good to me. The one song I don’t like much is No Surprise. I guess I don’t understand labels and why they choose the singles they do. They want the inane pop songs with the annoying hooks. They must think we’re all puppets. The rest of the cd is a solid rock record with a great clear sound. Does NOT sound like Nickelback to me. It has a lot more variety and texture than the first cd, those songs did sound a lot alike, but these songs have a lot of modulation and I don’t feel like Chris is singing “at” me like on some of the songs on the first one. Definitely a step forward in a big way. I never did buy the entire cd last time, just several of the songs, but this time I will proudly buy it at first chance.

I’m in absolute awe. The first album was a breakout with real flashes of genius, but this album is a completely mature rock album, one of the best of all time. Not a bad track in the mix, and a lot of standouts. This should catapult Daughtry to megastar status. My personal favorites at first listen are ‘You Don’t Belong’ (awesome hard rock song), ‘Life After You’, ‘What I Meant To Say’, ‘Open Up Your Eyes’ (very moving), ‘September’, and ‘Tennessee Line’ (oddly I thought I wouldn’t like this one as it’s the country duet, but it’s absolutely gorgeous and one of the highlights, however I could do without the violin outro).

Fantastic album, better than I ever imagined, and after the first album the bar was set pretty high.

Amazing Album. I just dont get the whole artists starting to sound the same on each song which artist doesnt sound the same. As every artist develops a successfull fomula and sticks to it.

I just ordered the album off daughtry’s official site because I wanted “long way” and its coming the day after i leave for a 2 week trip. I had the 30 second clips stuck in my head, so i’m so glad that i can listen to the songs now.

I agree, their first album is one of my all time favorites and i like this one much better!

This does not seem like a copy cat album to me. Not Nickelback not David Cook.

I’ve listened to about half of the album, and so far I like the songs, but I’m not crazy about the over-produced arrangements a lot of them have. I like September and What I Meant to Say. The chorus of Ghost of Me is giving me serious Journey flashbacks. I haven’t decided whether that’s a good or a bad thing yet!

I don’t like No Surprise at all… but the rest of the album is much better (WTF, RCA?) and looks like I’ll be adding to my Daughtry collection when this comes out. You can tell what music I like by how many times they pop up on my iPod and I have a LOT of the songs from his first album on mine… sounds like it’ll be the same here. I like how the first track (You Don’t Belong) intros the album… good rock sound. Life After You is lovely… ooh, I like September, too. I don’t have time right now to listen to the rest but I’ll be buying it. Did take a peek at Tennessee Line since I really like Vince Gill (first country album I ever bought was his When Love Finds You which is an awesome album) – really like it! Yeesh, if he crosses over with that one he’s going to sell a zillion albums – country music seems to sell a lot.

I actually agree with that. Daughtry has a sound… it’s what comes out when he writes. That’s who he is artistically. And this record is like he just expanded on his sound. I don’t know if you can hold that against him really.

I personally wanted him to go a tad harder because that’s how I’d like to hear his voice. But, like I said before, his fans should love this.

No, I mean one of the best rock albums of all time. I would put ‘Open Up Your Eyes’ up against any other rock song from any other band. Ever. It’s beautiful. And I still think ‘You Don’t Belong To Me’ is one of the greatest hard rock songs ever. Feel free to disagree if you like, everyone has different opinions on this kind of thing (and I have a feeling that if I saw a list of what you consider the best rock songs of all time I’d probably have to bite my tongue to keep from laughing)

Also wanted to chime in on the whole ‘Daughtry is just a Nickelback ripoff/soundalike’ chant that seems to be repeated ad nauseum. I actually understand why people would say that; they just aren’t fans of the rock genre, so to them it probably does sound the same. In reality, Chris Daughtry sounds no more like Chad Kroeger than Jon Bon Jovi sounds like Axl Rose. They are singers within the same genre, but the voices are vastly different, and someone would have to be tone deaf to hear Nickelback on the radio and confuse them for Daughtry.

However, if rock isn’t your thing, then it all probably sounds the same. If you played some random R&B/rap for me and asked me to differentiate one artist from another, I’d be lost. I couldn’t tell you if I was listening to Kanye West or 50 Cents or TI… I just wouldn’t know, because it’s not my kind of music at all and I just don’t like it. So I have no ability to appreciate it, really, and I’m sure there are legions of fans out there who could go on for great lengths describing the differences in style, theme, content, etc between Kanye West and Chris Brown, for example, and it would be meaningless to me. So whenever I see someone pull out the whole hackneyed ‘sounds just like Nickelback’ quote out I automatically dismiss the rest of their opinion as probably being uninformed.
