Danny Gokey Tweets from the BMI Awards

There was a question at another site from someone not familiar with the earlier story with Keith and Nicole liking Danny.

There are at least three interviews I’ve seen where Keith refers to Danny as their favorite. Here are two.

I am glad that Danny enjoyed himself last night at the BMI awards. And I am glad that he met Nicole and Keith. I have seen different interviews where they mentioned Danny being a favorite of theirs when he was on AI.

Danny also has a gig coming up in December at Coyote Joe’s in Charlotte NC where he will be performing with other country artists David Nail, (one of my favorite country singers) Phil Vassas and Mallory Hope.

I am glad to see him getting more gigs and getting gigs, with country artists as well as attending country music awards. These things will definitely benefit him.

Interesting then, that Keith was paired with Kris, then, for the finale! It seemed like an odd pairing, given that Kris had no interest in going country, although the song they sang together was a lot of fun.

I saw in interviews of the finalists that the producers chose all the pairings? Danny has always seemed very happy to have had the opportunity to perform with Lionel Richie (I’ve seen at least one of the country bloggers favorably comparing the style of Danny’s voice in his new single to Lionel, which I’m sure Danny would consider a huge compliment if he saw it). I did see where Kris wasn’t as keen to be doing the country song duet with Keith (nothing against Keith from what I remember, just Kris didn’t want to be doing anything country). Not sure why as one of the top 2, he didn’t get some say though it came off well.

It’s nice for Danny that he was able to meet Keith & Nicole and hear that last night. I hadn’t realized that they never met during the AI finale, or that Danny hadn’t even seen those interviews on line where Keith talked about him.

Yes, Steph, I’m sure the producers picked the finale pairings and the contestants had no say in it.
Of course, Danny and Lionel were my absolute favorite, both guys with hearts of gold and a soulful voice with awesome vocals.
But I also really liked Keith and Kris together too! I think it was probably the guitar thing- and the song they sang was pretty pop sounding, not country.
So excited for the CMA’s!

Danny and Lionel were my favorite duet of the finale too. I thought that they gave a good performance together.

Also, I like the way Danny’s current stylist is dressing him. I think that it would be nice if he showed up in a suit for the CMA’s.

I think Danny is making some good connections. Yesterday, I saw the cutest pic of Danny from an interview with some djs. It was in a hotel room, and they were pillow fighting…Danny was standing up on the bed. It looked like alot of fun!

This event is going to happen on Wednesday December 16.

Doesn’t seem so, since he was tweeting yesterday that he “met” Keith (for the first time, apparently). May not be that surprising, the scheduling of everyone for that crowded finale show must have been pretty tight.

Sounds like Danny is having fun and that’s cool for him about Keith and Nicole.

Charlotte is a great city for fans attending concerts, so I hope there’s a good turnout for Danny. He is really keeping busy with the release of his single and his forthcoming album.

Danny was just interviewed by Tampa DJ Dave McKay from the Red Carpet. Danny talked about his glasses, HE and Dave exchanged glasses, Dave said he couldnt see with Danny’s glasses on, and that he now has 75 pairs. He said he always wanted to go country after AI, he then talked a lot about Sophie’s foundation, and how it helps people, he kinda went on about that.

Dumb question…are you guys seeing this on tv or online?

I haven’t seen any of it myself but based on twitter traffic there seem to be some local tv / radio broadcasting live. I saw one report of Danny being interviewed on a local ABC tv affiliate.

The national broadcast is supposed to be CMT for a pre-show starting at 7 (on tv, and live stream at cmt.com). The CMA show starts at 8 on ABC, I saw one comment that ABC also may have a pre-show starting at 7:30.

I am very happy for Danny. Last night and tonight are his first big introductions to the country music world. I believe he also attended another songwriter award even a couple of weeks ago. This is a great opportunity for him and great timing since his single was just released and will go to radio soon plus he is getting lots of interviews with country radio stations without having to leave Nashville.

Also glad to hear about the gig in North Carolina. I’m sure he will be singing his new single. Can’t wait to hear it live.

Hopefully they will show Danny on the red carpet on CMT since we know he has been interviewed.

That’s interesting if they are broadcasting the CMA pre-show events live in Tampa, including Danny. I had thought maybe that was a radio interview from the scene being carried live in FL.

I think as Danny gets more established, the media will have more knowledgeable questions to ask him. A lot of them seem to start with fairly superficial questions like about his glasses, or personal subjects like his wife. I saw another video interview today, where it was about halfway through before they moved off the personal questions to ask about his new single and an upcoming performance planned for their market area. They seemed to have good rapport with Danny, though.

It was interesting that at least one if not both of the co-interviewers asked Danny questions that were quite faith-oriented, and made direct acknowledgement of their own religious beliefs. I knew that a lot of the country audience would have that in common with Danny. It was striking to see it so explicitly with country media personalities as well.

Aw, I would love to see Danny on the red carpet. It starts in a few minutes, right? I’ll try that link above, thanks Jx223.

No idea how Danny managed never to see that. I would have thought one of his relatives at least would have sent it to him. First time I saw it, definitely thought Nicole was just a bit smitten.

I haven’t seen Danny yet but I did see Carrie and Chris Daughtry get interviewed by CMT. And I saw a glimpse of Kellie Pickler.

Darn, and I missed it,:-(. I am from the Tampa Bay area. I don’t usually watch ABC, but my son and I stayed tuned for the news after DWTS and the Robin Roberts country special. On the news they showed Dave McKay talk to Gretchen Wilson last night about why she would not be at the CMA’s. I hope that interview with Dave shows up on line and can’t wait for pics of Danny,too. I don’t know
how much we will see of him,
considering he is not that well known yet. When Phil Stacey was at the awards shows during his country run, all I could spot was his head and him and wife Kendra in the background while the bigger artists were getting interviewed.

I guess we should look out for a thread that mj may begin about the awards show. I may post in it as I am able during the evening.

A video showed up online from the Tampa Bay radio interview. They do focus on Danny’s bio and non-profit foundation quite a bit, but start talking about his single and path into country music ~halfway through.

Interesting to hear Danny describe in person that incident with Randy Travis approaching him behind the scenes during country week to consider country music. (Had been mentioned in the press release when Danny was signed, but otherwise hadn’t been publicly known.)
