Danny Gokey performs at the Grand Ole Opry

Danny Gokey performed last night for his sixth date at the Grand Ole Opry, this time bringing along the Sophia’s Heart Nashville Youth Choir to join him in a song. Danny’s set consisted of My Best Days are Ahead of Me, and It’s Only with the SH choir joining in.

Upcoming events for Danny including performances February 18th at the Mohegan Sun casino’s Wolf Den in Uncasville CT February 18th, and an unusual afternoon concert at the Rams Head on Stage, Annapolis MD, February 19th.

In between concerts and working on new music, Danny will also have his hands full keeping up with his yet-to-be-named new friend.
ETA: Danny announced on twitter that he has named the pup Fozzy after Fozzie the Bear from the Muppets.

    Danny and the Sophia’s Heart Choir sounded great on the stage of the Grand Ole Opry last night!

    And that new family member of Danny’s? Definitely cute and keen competition with Danny with the “awwwww….” factor.

    I wasn’t sure how best to list it, but this was actually Danny’s eighth overall Opry performance.

    Two of the six dates he did last year were evenings when the Opry had back to back shows, and Danny performed at both.

    What a great response from the crowd and it was great to have the Sophia’s Heart Choir make their debut. That must have really been proud moment.

    Was hoping to get preview of Gimme A Kiss, but maybe that will be the performance on AI this season.

    It’s still way too early in his career, but it will be cool if down the road Danny will be asked to join the Grand Ole Opry. Aside from his music, the Sophia’s Heart foundation have done a lot of good work in the community.

    Danny did a nice job last night. He seems to have gotten hold of thee nerves that seemed to hit whenerver he performe on that stage.

    I think it is a sign that the Opry likes him in that they allowed this performance which they had no obligation to do so.

    Certain1, I wondered about that too. It’s so great that he has been invited to perform there every other month and I was very impressed that they let the SH kids choir perform with him on that revered stage.
    I think they really do like him there :)

    Thank you Steph for this great thread on Danny’s Opry performance! He sounded wonderful on both songs, but I especially enjoyed “It’s Only” with the Sophia’s Heart kids choir.

    One of the things I have noticed since following Danny is his ability to harmonize with whomever he is singing with. It is obvious Danny loves to share the spotlight and have others singing with him like the kid’s choir at the Opry last night. Danny will often have his band members sing as he harmonizes with them, and of course we have seen he loves to do that with the audience too.

    BTW, that is one adorable puppy :)

    Great thread Steph. I just love that picture of Danny’s new puppy. Do we know if it is a boy or a girl. Not surprised the picture has so many views – it’s hard to resist such a cute puppy.

    Enjoyed listening to Danny and the SHF kids choir. I especially love It’s Only with the kids but My Best Days Are Ahead of Me was great also.

    Danny sounded so confident in his remarks at the Opry and he sang great – I loved that he had the Sophia’s Heart kids choir there with him and they did great too!

    That puppy is so adorable. Danny used “him” when referring to the puppy so I think it must be a boy. It will be fun to hear what he decides to name him. I’m so glad that he got a dog, that will be so nice for him.

    On a related note, congratulations to Lady Antebellum for their Grammy wins for Record and Song of the Year for Need You Now. It was Lady Antebellum that wrote It’s Only. And Danny had the pleasure of opening for them last summer.

    Lady Antebellum had talked to Brian Mansfield about It’s Only:

    “When I sent that over to a friend of mine at Sony, she immediately thought of Danny Gokey. Upon first listen, he felt something by it. I was so excited. It’s his first single. He sings his butt off on it. We’ve gotten to know him since then, and he’s such a nice guy, got a great story. I hope the best for him.

    I’m glad they have been able to show case the song with the Sophia’s Heart Children Choir.
