Haha, nice title. I’m no Danny fan, but Rachel Lampa is a singer, so maybe Danny wanted to hang out and make an industry friend…? I dunno, trying to give him the benefit of the doubt. I mean, if he had called Chris Sligh or some other male Christian singer he likes to “hang out”, it wouldn’t have been a big deal, but just because she’s female and he’s widowed, maybe people are making it a bigger deal?

I’m not passed the fact that they didn’t do the two groups of three with the highest vote getter choosing the safe group. Especially because, as MJ noted, Danny was the highest vote getter according to dialidol. This was a huge chance for them to pimp Danny as one of the two front runners besides Adam….

….and they didn’t take it.

Why is that? Did they think Danny didn’t need any more pimping? (Do the producers ever think there’s such a thing as too much pimping?) Or is there another reason.

I’ve been wondering for a while if Chris Sligh is “managing” Danny’s AI career. He talks him up all the time, has him over for dinner (i read that in a Phil Stacy blog maybe?), Danny sang Endless Love and Rascal Flatts, and now this. Which could be Chris helping Danny make connections in the Christian music market.

Nothing wrong with that, I guess, although for some reason it doesn’t sit quite right with me. I guess I’m all about the level playing field. anyway, just speculation.

If this will get him to drop the sympathy card I’m all for it. Go Rachel and Danny!

I’m fairly convinced that dialidol is no longer terribly accurate. Lots and lots of people voting from cell phone and via text message, plus dialidol’s sample size is only about 200,000…36 million vote, according to the show.

I’m unconvinced by the numbers they showed for Gokey.

I’m firmly on the side of SO WHAT. The dude can make friends with anyone he wants ~ and to me it seems likely to be nothing more than that. But even if he was hoping to turn it into something romantic, again SO WHAT. Egads. I’m just as opposed to judging Danny for these photos as I am for judging Adam on his.

I can’t judge anyone who has lost a spouse and is still grieving. It is definitely possible to be interested in meeting other friends while still learning to deal with the fact that your spouse is gone. People are more than capable of feeling two or more emotions simultaneously. No two people are going to get over an event like that on the same timetable or in the same way.

Don’t care for Danny’s voice or the early pimping and exploitation that took place on the show. But I will definitely give him some slack on choices he makes in his private life. The man has obviously been through a very rough time and is entitled to live his life the way he chooses – just as we all are.

I have very direct experience in this situation, and let me tell you- a year is nothing. At the 12 month mark I was barely venturing back out into the real world much less dating or looking to hook up.

And yes, everyone grieves differently, but still deep in your heart you know that there really is no sort of substitute for a lost spouse, and anyone you do get with is at best a comfort tool.

And aside from any judgmental type comments or even if it is friendship and not romantic, letting this leak now was just a bonehead move.

It is my personal opinion that Gokey is a shameless self promoter in a way the other contestants ( not even Glambert) would do out of respect for the show. I believe he is INTENTIONALLY rallying a right wing fundamentalist base. And this story is just further proof to me! He is sailing thru this contest on socio-political lines because he knows his talent is not enough. If you have heard one Danny Gokey performance you have heard them all. Even little sixteen old Allison knows how to switch it up from week to week. Gokey remains at the same level throughout the season. Either he believes he his TOO good to stray from his path…or (as I believe) he is incapable of doing it. He certainly would have no problem using a young recording star to further his career after he used his departed wife so blatantly last week singing Endless Love. Someone should have thrown a shoe at him! Unless one of the other contestants kills a puppy on stage next week I will continue to believe he is the most despicable Idol has ever seen.

I have a few friends, all male, who have a lot of the same personality traits that Mr. Gokey has. And, IMHO, they are not some of their best traits.

They speak before thinking.
They love to hear themselves talk.
They bring up inappropriate personal tidbits at the most obscure times.
They have to be the center of attention.
If someone tells an anecdote they always can one-up it.
They do weird stuff with their bodies and have absolutely no rhythm.
They are overly loud…you always hear them above any crowd.
No matter what they are involved in, they know it would fail if they weren’t involved.
They are often bored because they don’t like their own company.
They always think they are hip and withit (I can’t ever tell them the truth).
They Love to embarass everyone around them…they think its funny.
They always tell you how much stuff they have, and it’s always better than anyone elses.

Due to these character traits something was bound to come up about Danny and it wasn’t about to have the positive spin Danny was envisioning.

I’m not trying to call anyone out, but I do see a lot of “it’s not our business”. If this were like, tabloid BS, I could understand that argument maybe, but it was posted right there on her blog under a picture of his giant smiling face. To quote Andrew Clark, from one of my favorite movies, The Breakfast Club: “Okay, fine, but I didn’t dump my purse out on the couch and invite everyone into my problems.”

She has been around a while. If Danny wants to call her up, I think that is his prerogative. He doesn’t need to make new friends; they become his for the great guy he is and the great voice that he has. He has already gained the votes of Phil, Chris, Mandisa, and Fantasia, not to mention Keith and Nicole, and yes, many of us Christians. God bless you, Danny the godly man. So, Danny has enough free time to have dinner dates with Chris Sligh and with Rachael Lampa, and bought a guitar so that he would have something to do. Either the contestants aren’t being worked as hard as last year, or Danny doesn’t spend much time preparing for his performances. I guess that would explain why they’re all so mediocre.

I am in the minority, too, and I’m not phased by it. Danny probably has connections from being a worship leader and must have often interacted with many a Christian act that has come to his church. And he will obviously make friends, like we all do.

I loved how Ryan Seacrest knocked that snarky look off Danny’s face during this weeks results show. Every other week he has just smiled and beamed to the camera with a ‘ I’m not worried. ‘ look. KUDOS ryan…you must have noticed the ego too!

Jealousy is a human emotion that we all try and tackle, not just Christians. And I personally know alot of Christians who are jealous and vain. There isn’t one religion that can fix that. I wish there was…

I’m not a Danny fan because I’ve been unimpressed by recent performances. However, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with what he did. It was no different than his meeting with Chris Sligh and Jason Castro.

Neither Danny nor Ms. Lampa has done anything suspect at all. They simply met each other. Not a big deal.

Funny or not, I think the whole post is kinda sick.

Anyway, if he’s looking to go in the Christian music direction, Rachael Lampa, Stacie Orrico, Jaci Velasquez – that’s the way to go.

I thought Danny said in his February interview (press conference with all the top ? idols) that he doesn’t want to be a Christian singer, but a singer who happens to be Christian.

Tess I think you nailed it. Also, I think part of his problem (and Anoop’s) is that they have both been big fish in very small ponds for a while. It is difficult to switch from that kind of supportive environment where your the star and everyone thinks your wonderful to the hypercritical, harsh lights of AI, LA, and the TMZ world. The difference is Anoop seems quite a bit more self aware than Danny. (I think self awareness at this point is something Danny doesn’t seem capable of.)

To enlighten you, I am talking about season 6′s Phil Stacey; Chris Sligh, who is doing very well with Rascal Flatts singing his song, thank you; season 5′s Mandisa, who is one of the top Christian artists today; season 2 winner Fantasia, and Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman, who on CMT Insider’s show last week said that they liked Danny. And just so you know, Phil has not quit supporting Danny. He just happens to have become an Adam fan, as I have. He had also said when he appeared on the first “Idol Tonight” of this season that he finds himself rooting more and more for Matt Giraud. I believe it is allowed to support more than one Idol contestant at a time.

Well, I don’t know the religions of all the contestants, but Danny has certainly acted the least Christian-like of them all. I hated when he mocked Matt’s poor “Viva La Vida” performance and pointed out (loudly) that Allison has a crush on Zac Efron. I’m pretty sure air-humping doesn’t fall in the category of Christianity, nor does his smuggy McSmugface attitude. I hate the look on his face whenever they tell him he’s safe. It’s like, “Of course I’m safe! I’m Danny Gokey!!” as opposed to the thankful and relieved looks on the faces of most of the others. /rant

Not sure where the problem is. Why not take advantage of the newfound celebrity such as it is for the newest idols to get a chance to meet someone you’re a fan of? I started out liking Danny as much as Anoop but he’s dropped down to my 4th favorite of those left but still I like his voice and his personality doesn’t bother me. I’d hope this doesn’t get blown out of proportion.

True, but being a secular humanist does not make one an expert on Christianity, either. Paul the apostle had said that he “cared very little if I am judged by you,” speaking of the Romans, who at the time were trying him for his faith. Ultimately, Danny’s Judge is God Himself, and his pastor, who according to the Bible is his shepherd, and other mature Christians around him, are the best ones to call his conduct to task, should there be the need. Btw, Danny is short for “Daniel,” which means “God is my judge.” Also, being a Christian does not mean you have arrived as far as perfection is concerned. The Bible says that the Christian should “work out your salvation with fear and trembling.” I only know from what I read and heard about him, and from some who personally know him, what kind of person he is, and I like what I have read and heard. I know that his breath stinks, as does mine; but that will not deter me from supporting him. Unless he deliberately turns and serves the devil, he’s got my support.

I think a few of you MUST be confused here. If any of the contestants have a disgusting pelvic thrust, it’s Adam. But of course, Adam could get on the stage, lift his eyes up during a love song and most of you would swoon and talk about his great showmanship. That’s okay, Danny’s base will keep voting for him.

I’m not confused at all. When Danny thrusts, I get grossed out. I can’t seem to stop myself from being squicked about it, and apparently nothing can stop Danny from doing it. It’s quite unfortunate.

Hopefully someday you can hook up with a Christian who can show you a better side of the faith. Danny, IMO has done nothing to sacrifice his faith. I loved his performance of “Jesus take the wheel”. I love to listen to him and I love to watch him. If he can be a good example of Jesus to the world, so much the better.

I don’t particularly care if Danny is reaching out to a fellow Christian artist, making friends, or trying to make a date. Doesn’t bother me. It’s his business and anyway, things are often very different than what is presented to us in media. I’ll take it all with a grain of salt.

Just a side note: as a Christian who attends a church where comtemporary worship music is done I can say that there certainly is some egotism that happens and probably some jealousy too in the worship arena (prolly the preaching arena too). How do I know? My husband is a musician on a worship team and gives me the inside scoop, lol.

It’s also known amongst those who work in the little kids’ church that many worship leaders often try to finagle their way out of doing their share of working in the parent co-op for teaching in kids’ church because they are “needed in worship.” Kind of a wierd pecking order…very subtle and when the pastors catch on they usually do something about it.

All that to say that those human flaws don’t just blot out because one attends church, lol. And musician/singers can be primadonnas,whatever their religious persuasions.

There is no need to be sorry. I AM a Christian, and my faith is intact. My references to Pastor Rolex and his Escalade are not an indictment against Christians or Christianity in general. They are my realisitic assesment of a Pastor who preaches that God somehow smiles on those who amass material possessions, wears a Rolex and implores his parishioners to donate money for his Escalade payments because that’s what God would want them to do.

They’re also not an indictment against Rolex’s or Escalades. I dig material possessions as much as the next girl (mostly in the form of overpriced shoes). And, if that’s what you want to spend your money on, then so be it. But, to use your position as a man of God to aquire those things is a wee bit gross to me.

I really wish this site hadnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t become such a Danny hate-fest site. Are the Danny fans on some other site? Because since Danny has never been in the b3, I know there are other Danny fans besides me.

I think if you’re looking for fellow Danny fans, you need to head to a Danny fan site. Most of the general commentary sites are fairly similar in tone to this one. In fact, over at TWOP the Adam thread has approximately 3300 posts, the vast majority of them positive, whereas as the Danny thread (the second highest with traffic) has 750, most of them very negative. Kris might be running third at this point with 600 something, but his are mostly positive too, like Adam’s. It’s the same over at EW and generally around the web, at least as far as I have seen.

As far as voting goes, I don’t think we really have any idea what kinds of numbers Danny is pulling. True, he hasn’t landed in the bottom three, but a number of articles and on-line polls have Kris overtaking him as a potential front-runner and challenger to Adam. The consensus seems to be that Danny hasn’t really shown any growth on the show, and his performances all sort of blend together. I personally think that criticism is valid and I also agree with the MasterClass Lady that his voice is showing signs of strain. I really wonder if his voice will last through the final rounds of the competition. Danny isn’t the worst singer left (I think Lil is), but in my opinion he has never been deserving of the praise lavished on him by the judges. YMMV.

Just for the record, I couldn’t stand him at the beginning and am not a Christian. And if I was, I wouldn’t be his kind either. On the other hand, I don’t really give a rat’s ass about him contacting women for any reason whatsoever.

If he’s into her as a hook up, I’m wouldn’t say 6 months, 8 months etc. of widowhood is too long/too short. And while he started off quite douchy to me, I think he’s probably an OK guy since the other Idols people think are so peachy seem to really dig him.

I would like to see some positive traits about Danny, but I guess I would ask someone who is close to him and who knows him. What I have seen in him is a love for God and his wife; a love for children, which shows in pictures of him teaching them at his church and which prompted him, in the name of his wife, who also loved kids, to start a foundation to benefit them; love and support for his fellow Idols, with whom he feels comfortable enough to joke around with and whom he has shown support to by hugging them on stage and such; a love for people, as attested by a behind-the-scenes report that described him as being the one to interact the most with people; and a great voice. I also saw a recent picture of the Idols’ boxes of fanmail, and he’s got 2, the second of which contains less than Adam’s, who has shown to have the most. Last I checked, my Bible says, “If God be for you, who can be against you?” I would say that is high-class company. He said through the apostle John that those that receive Him become His sons. I’ll be glad to give you chapter and verse. I have made the decision to follow God and so has Danny; so those verses speak of us and many others in the world who have done the same. Danny’s religion means as little to me as his love life. But when he or people he’s associated with make it a topic, it’s ripe for discussion. Honestly, what turns me off is his singing and terrible song choices. His attitude doesn’t help, but I could possibly tune that out if he happened to be more entertaining musically. Note that Kris is also a worship leader and not getting the same flack as Danny. Could be a reason for that.

Last week, Kris chose a hauntingly beautiful ballad that I love. Danny chose a schmaltzy one that I hate. Kris has shown some talent with instruments and arrangement; Danny hasn’t. I’m using Kris as an example because I don’t see people talking about what a great Christian he is. Perhaps because he’s not making a big deal of it himself. I respect that.

I was simply responding to the question “Are the Danny fans on some other site?” And, I only commented about the other boards because the OP made an insinuation that this one was a “hate-fest.” No, in terms of how Danny is perceived around the internet, this site is pretty much the norm.

Personally, I think it would get boring if everyone had the same read on things. I enjoy hearing the different opinions; that’s why I come here.

Last week, Kris chose a hauntingly beautiful ballad that I love. Danny chose a schmaltzy one that I hate. Kris has shown some talent with instruments and arrangement; Danny hasnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t. I agree so much. Danny is all preach preach preach. But his actions haven’t been very Christian-like at all.

I just find it humerous that he’s using the Miley type card. He’s a mediocre singer IMO whether religious, heathen or in between.

I don’t see Danny as preachy, he’s just talked of wanting to give inspiration, hope and has chosen syrupy songs. However, his behavior flies in the face of that goal, so good luck with being a “leader” (not going to happen).

I think his main problem is that he is out of his element. He appears to be a nervous wreck and overcompensating. I think he is trying too hard to be popular by being over friendly, over talky, mocking (Matt), trying to be the class comedian and failing at it, trying out contact lens versus glasses, and now trying to “sculpt” a jawline with a beard to enhance his appearance, trying to prematurely network outside of AI, etc.

He is SO ….. h y p e r a c t i v e!

The title of the thread said that Danny has made new friends, and I’m sure Eliott is one of them. He said on “Idol Tonight” that he has visited the contestants. Incidentally, Rachael was at a former church of mine years ago, along with another young lady, Stacie Orrico, and the boy band Plus One. Hokey Gokey! One needs no psychic ability to read Dan’s motive. It is disgusting. It’s one thing for a special interest to reach out to a contestant, but quite another for a contestant to overtly (or deviously) solicit votes outside of performance, particularly in the name of God. Mercenary and hardly Christian. Isn’t it enough, or bad enough to pimp one’s grief for votes? It ruffles my Christian feathers.

Whatever respect or sympathy I felt for the man has evaporated. To be fair, I am an Allison fan for Idol, compelled by the total talent, performance and commercial package that I see. I do not believe Adam, Danny or Kris are on par with her commercial value based on a broad, growing, and enduring fan base. Danny is working himself into a Christian book store and 1-800 niche.

Perhaps she should take some advice from Adam and his family and friends as to how to handle negative internet comments.

I finally went to Rachael’s page and read the whole post and the comments. The Jonas Brothers arranged to meet her earlier the same week, so she’s a popular gal. Must be the only hot young Christian chick in LA. I doubt Danny stands a chance with her up against one of the Jonas’, but likely he’ll keep playing that sympathy card with her for all it’s worth. Using a sob story to hit on a girl isn’t exactly a new technique.
