The couples dance 2 routines tonight. The second routine features Latin dances, with the contestants featured performing a 15 second solo. Julianne will be back tomorrow to dance, and she’ll be back next week to dance with Cody if he survives this week. I’m not sure he will..but I’ll say more when I post a longer summation in this space.

Len got to play heavy with Brooke tonight. Someone’s got to do it. I mean, they want her to win, but they can’t keep gushing over her and giving her perfect scores! So it was Len’s job tonight to nit-pick her Tango. So while Carrie Ann and Bruno gave her 10′s, Len played meanie and gave her an 8. They all criticized her Mambo, but gave her 9′s anyway. As always, she had the highest score this week, a 55. If she doesn’t take this whole thing, I’ll eat my hat.

Favorite solo of the night was Maurice’s Paso. The entire routine was dramatic, but his solo cape work was strong and impressive. Maurice dances a pretty mean quickstep too. He and Cody tie for the lowest scores tonight – 48, and I have to say it would be a real shame if Maurice was eliminated this week. I think he danced rings around Cody, who always looks awkward and ungainly on the dance floor. Cody’s solo tonight was silly. I thought his Foxtrot wasn’t all that either. I think it’s time for him to go, personally.

Lance and Lacey are my favorite couple right now. Sure, Brooke is a very good dancer, but I don’t think she and Derek have the flair, nor the chemistry that Lance and Lacey have. I absolutely LOVED their foxtrot tonight. It was charming, elegant and loads of fun. I have to say, however, I was a little disappointed in Lance’s solo. It was too much like a bland routine he would have done with his old band, ‘N sync. I was expecting a little more pizazz from Lance.

Warren danced better this week than last, and I have to say I loved his solo Jive, but I don’t think he danced better than Lance or Maurice. I think we know who the judges want in the finals. I think they’ve resigned themselves to Lance being there, but they are totally gunning for Warren and Brooke to join him–with Brooke taking it all, of course.

The big question tonight is, who goes home tomorrow? Cody or Maurice? This is a tough one. Maurice danced better, but I think Cody has a fanbase from Hannah Montana. Hm…

Videos and live blog after the jump…

Cody and Edyta – The Foxtrot – Cody feels the heat. He knows he needs to nail the dances to keep competitive. Len was pleasantly surprised–top notch he says. Bruno says he’s a cool dude–his most grown up performance. Carrie Ann liked it to, but will take off a point–Edyta lifted her foot off the ground. I still think Cody is all kinds of awkward up there. Carrie Ann – 8, Len – 8, Bruno – 8 – 241-800-868-3401

Brooke and Derek – The Tango – Derek says he’s going to start treating Brooke like a professional, ’cause she’s just that good! And that WAS good, if a little cold. “Stunning,” says Bruno. “Beyond phenomenal,” says Carrie Ann. Len gets technical with the duo, “It was riddled with mistakes,” he says. No perfect score tonight! – Carrie Ann – 10 – Len – 8, Bruno – 10 – 281-800-868-3405.

Maurice and Cheryl – The Quickstep – Cheryl goes over the last week’s team dance with Maurice. He’ll be dancing the Paso in the Latin round later. Now, it’s time for the Quickstep. Wow. Nice footwork, Maurice! Carrie Ann loved it and complimented him on his posture. Len says great footwork, great posture. Bruno compliments him on not deflating in the middle of the routine. 1-800-868-3404Carrie Ann – 8, Len – 8, Bruno – 8 – 24

Lance and Lacey – The Foxtrot – Lance wants to work on his technical skills this week. And, no more showing off! Lance and Lacey are going by the book. That Foxtrot was charming! Loved it. Len says, “You cleaned up the act! Great elements there.” Bruno says they retained their quirkiness, despite remaining classic. Carrie Ann says, “You truly are a bright light.” – Carrie Ann – 9, Len – 8, Bruno – 9 – 261-800-868-3407

Warren and Kym – The Tango – Warren struggles with his solo Jive, so they move on to practice the Tango. And he does much better this week. Bruno calls it a “mean tango” Carrie Ann thought it was fantastic. Len echos Carrie Ann’s “Fantastic.” Carrie Ann – 10, Len – 9, Bruno – 9 – 281-800-868-3413

The Latin Round featuring contestant solos

Cody and Edyta – Mambo – OMG Cody’s thrusts and gyrations during his 15 second solo are kind of…ridiculous and all kinds of wrong. The partner dancing was kind of awkward too. Carrie Ann says A for effort and energy, but disjointed. Len says, “I thought you did two good dances.” Bruno calls it spasmodic, but appreciates his effort. Carrie Ann – 8, Len – 8, Bruno 8 – 24. Julianne IS coming back for the results show tomorrow, and will be dancing with Cody next week next week. If Cody returns, that is.

Brooke and Derek – The Mambo – That was really good. Brooke sure knows how to swing those hips. Len says, “Very ambitious performance.” He quibbles with a few technical issues, but likes it overall. Bruno says, “You really are incredible.” Carrie Ann says her posture was a little awkward at times, but still fantastic. Carrie Ann – 9, Len – 9, Bruno – 9 – 27

Maurice and Cheryl – Paso Doble – Wow, I think this Paso is a show stopper. Really dramatic. Maurice’s solo was impressive. Bruno calls it strong, imposing and powerful. “I love the focus and intensity” says Carrie Ann. Len loved the cape work. Carrie Ann – 8, Len – 8, Bruno 8 – 24.

Lance and Lacey – The Samba – Hmm. This is decent, but nothing special. I expected more pizazz from Lance’s solo. Carrie Ann says he did a good job, but thought some stuff he did with his eyes was distracting. Len wanted more of a samba flavor in the solo. Len says he has pigeon-toed footwork. Bruno disagrees, he compliments Lance on a difficult Samba. Carrie Ann – 8, Len – 7 Bruno – 9 – 24

Warren and Kym – The Jive – Great Jive from Warren and Kym. Loved Warren’s funky solo! He looks like he’s having a ball. Very infectious. Len says he’s a joyful thing to watch…other than his feet. Bruno says he releases a contageous sense of fun, even if his feet were a little flat. Carrie Ann compliments Kym on her choreography. Carrie Ann – 9, Len – 8, Bruno – 9 -26

Score totals

  • Cody and Edyta – 48

MJ, I believe it’s 2 partner dances, and the solo thing is that they have a 15 second solo within their 2nd partner dance. I don’t think it’s just a solo.

And THANK YOU, Len for speaking the truth about Brooke’s performance. Before the judges even started their critiques, I told my roommate, “if they praise this, I’m gonna be pissed because that was awkward and had quite a few mistakes.” And was not 10-worthy, IMO. If they’re going to call her “as good as the pros” she needs to dance it, and IMO, she hasn’t been perfect yet. Last week was very good, definitely. But “as good as the pros”? I dunno.

    Ditto Sarah….
    And I saw Brooke’s feet leave the floor, very clearly… I believe that’s a lift CarrieAnn ……

gochiefs, I wondered if I was the only one who saw that.

Love Lance and Lacey because they just make me smile. They’re definitely a charming couple. I do see Len’s point about Lance’s footwork, and I agreed with those scores.

Love Warren and Kym too. She’s one of my favorites of the pros, and they’re just fun together. That was a good routine!

I really do not understand these judges’ scores sometimes. Maurice’s Paso was miles better than his Quickstep, but it got the same score?? I’m confused.

  • http://myspace.com/saltwatercures pj

Yeah, I agree, I want to keep Maurice over Cody, so I just sent him five votes.

Think the last three standing will be Brooke, Lance, and Warren.

  • KrazeeK120

I was going to put my points on whoever got the lower score of Maurice and Cody. But they got the same score. What do I do now????

  • sunchick

Sigh. I’d be more annoyed if winning this show counted for anything, but still, the judging is getting ridiculous. Brooke was pigeon toed throughout most of the mambo. Anyone who’s ever danced in some capacity knows that is a huge, huge no no. (So was Warren during the jive but I give him a pass because he’s a heck of a performer, whereas Brooke is not and gets high marks mostly for her supposed technical superiority.) I wish Len would have been as hard on her as he was on Lance, because although Lance’s footwork isn’t always sharp, he’s not totally turning his toes in for cripesake. Also, what the heck was that music for a samba? How do you samba to that sloooow tempo? Everyone else’s song seemed much more appropriate in the Latin round. Did I sigh yet? Sigh. Maurice was on fiyah. He should have outscored everyone on the last round. Pasos are such crowd pleasers, yes, but he did kick major bootay. Fave dances of the night: Warren’s tango, Lance’s foxtrot, Maurice’s paso.

Sarah, I just wanted to mention that about half the spoilers were wrong last week, at least the ones I picked up on Sunday. They were all correct this week, though.

  • gabam

For Brooke’s solo, she was dancing at the table and the judges could only see the top half of her back. How could they give her a nine when they could not see what the heck she was doing during her solo? They were hard on some of the guys for their footwork. They could not even see her feet and yet she got a nine.

The unfair judging is irritating. Brooke’s good but they need to judge her like they do the others, IMO.

  • AZIdolFan

I think Brooke will be getting a lot of backlash because the judges are being sooo biased. Don’t get me wrong she is good but Derek makes her look alot better than she really is. Lance is doing really well and it is such a shame that the judges are being unfair to him. And don’t get me started on Maurice, the poor guy outdanced Warren but Warren gets higher points. Whatever.

and SQUEE Benji is going to be dancing tomorrow!!!! I’m so excited. I LOVE Benji!!!!!

  • bigepaz

I guess I’m the only one who likes Brooke and Derek here. Or at least rooting for them. Oh well, I’m happy to stick up for them. I’m glad the judges picked on her this week though, but she was still the best out of all of them – IMO. I think she needs to smile more. Maybe she looks to serious to all her haters?

Warren is such a great entertainer. He makes up for his flaws by charming the crowd and that’s part of of the dance, right? entertainment? I just love him.

Lance’s solo was horrendous. But thank goodness for that foxtrot, because that samba was boring with a capital B.

Maurice has Cheryl to thanks because her choreography was amazing! His cape work was fantastic. I enjoyed him tonight as well.

Cody. Oh boy. I have to say, I know he was awkward tonight, but I would really like to see him dance with Julianne at least one more time. He just never clicked with Edyta.

I’m torn as to who will leave. But this top 5 is definitely the best of this season.

    I saw it too dammit!

I love Lance and Lacey and am so damn upset of the crap that they have to put up with. Rant off.

It’s a tough call because it’s up to fanbases as far as Maurice and Cody. I haven’t much like Maurice so far, but tonight he was really pretty good. Cody, not so much.

I just have to admit that I am charmed by Warren Sapp. He dances with such joy that I just can’t resist, so I know he is safe, and may just make the finals. That might please me, but the downside is if he does, then that mean Lance doesn’t make it and that would just be a travesty. Lance is a far superior dancer to any of the guy left. I just love watching him and lacey dance. The chemistry is palpable.

  • t2

bigepaz, you are not the only one. I think Brooke and Derek far outdance the other couples week after week — plus Derek’s choreography is all kinds of difficult. Brooke did not have a cult following coming into the contest though, so I don’t expect her to win (plus she’s a model and a model has never even gotten as far as she has in this competition.)

    Unpopular opinion next:

Gee maybe Lance was right, he is the ‘NSync guy who can’t dance. He looked so off in that Samba I thought maybe he missed a few steps. The foxtrot was delightful though.

  • Grammie Kari

I do want to see Lance and Lacey in the finals. I believe he WAS nervous. It is pretty obvious the judges feel Brooke will win. She is a good dancer and Derek makes her look much better. I still think she took dance or gymnastics. Yes, Warren is an entertainer and fun to watch.

    Unpopular opinion next:

I voted 5 times for Cody. I know he doesn’t have a chance but I appreciate his energy and hard work. Yes, I do want to see him dance with Julianne again.

Maurice going home would be fine with me.

  • Allison

I just can’t stand Maurice, and I don’t think Cheryl likes him too well, either. I voted for Cody mostly.

  • Grammie Kari

Allison, it is good to see that I am not the only one to pick this up. Cheryl has had some great partners and I am just not getting that chemistry vibes from her with Maurice. Some of the things he says bothers me.

I think it’s very important that Lance and Lacey not get discouraged. On AI there is a need to please Simon. It seems Len is the one to please on this show. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE DWTS, but it seems the judges are being a bit rough on this young couple.

Wouldn’t it be cool if Cody slip on in the semi-finals?
