Gilles should have won. But second place isn’t bad, for someone whose fame/notoriety is that he showed his penis to Kim Cattral on the big screen.

Also, Cheryl should be flagellating herself in apology since her effing freestyle probably lost it for Gilles.

Yay Shark! That fantastic freestyle is what won it for them. It really showed her strengths and the joy she has. What a great partnership. They also had some great performances throughout the course of the season that imo were consistently underpraised and underscored in all of the judges’ Gilles-mania.

I’m glad they pulled it off if Melissa and Tony couldn’t. I REALLY wanted to see Tony finally win one. They’ll probably stick him back with another Susan Lucci next season. Sads.

Oh about the Olympians.. Misty May had to leave the competition last year otherwise I don’t think she would of been able to beat out Brooke if she didn’t get hurt.

Wow, My favorite was Melissa and Tony, then Ty, then Gille and then Shawn. Oh well, grats Shawn and Mark.

I am truly shocked. If Melissa had won tonight, I would have accepted it. But Shawn winning caught me by surprise! IMO, the best dancer did not win. Maybe the fact that Gilles is French and not American had something to do with the end results?

Maybe not all callers could get through because of the circuits being busy? Maybe the à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“weaknessà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬  of the free-style did them in? Maybe the fact that Cheryl has won twice affected the outcome?

I was really pleased that Shawn won and glad it came down to her and Gilles. I hadn’t voted all season on DWTS but I picked up the phone last night for Shawn and getting through was tougher than it is for Idol.

It took me the whole half hour to get my 2 votes in.

Yes, I’m very happy and it’s just about who people consider the best as any of the top 3 (or even Lil Kim) have many people feeling they were the best all year.

I think Melissa would struggle a bit with not being the most popular even though she was in the public eye recently for those who watch The Bachelor program.

Melissa did fantastic coming in 2 days before as a fill in contestant.

Gilles peaked to soon IMO, and then he kept getting scores higher then he deserved in a few weeks where Shawn got put down for more of a age maturity issue.

It’s all just a difference in opinion on how people feel but for not being the most “star” stacked season it was very balanced on a talent level.

The TV filler was too much overkill even more then past seasons of this show. I mean any TV program that beats out American Idol for filler has a serious problem when it comes to that part IMO.

I’d say it was a great year dancing wise for this show.

Yet another season where the best dancer comes in second. Yawn. I think Drew was the only deserving winner. I’m glad I didn’t vote.

If Cheryl had created a dance that showed off hip-shaking Gilles tearing through a latin-flavored routine, they would have taken it.

Mark, on the other hand, put together a dance that was all about what Shawn’s strengths were.

And Tony made Melissa do the running man. Melissa, meet third place. Third place, meet Melissa.

yes!!!! i called shawn from the beginning! i had her winning in the pool since day one! i’m happy she won.

I am so glad Shawn won. She represents what this show is all about for me. From day one she was way outside her comfort zone and she amazed me with her skills every week.

I thought Gilles was simply spectacular and deserved his place in the finale but that freestyle of Cheryl’s probably hurt him more than anything else. I for one wanted to see him do less of what he’s done all season long (sex, sex, sex) and dance more.

Melissa never moved me emotionally with her dancing and that freestyle just showed all the things she struggles with dance wise but kudos to her for coming in at the last minute and dancing so incredibly well.

Nobody was cheated with the win because Shawn & Gilles tied for the judge’s scores so they were on a level playing field and it was less than 1% of the viewers votes that gave Shawn & Mark the win. They were my pick from day one and I couldn’t be more happy for them!

At least, if Gilled didn’t win, the best thing to come out of this was that Melissa didn’t win as well. Ahahaha.

It was a terrific finale with the possibility of any of the three winning. For that, I am most grateful.

I just hope next season, the pros take care with their celebrities and there won’t be so many injuries. I still wonder how Jewel would have done on the show.

I love Shawn but Gilles was robbed! It was a great final three.

Did you see Mark Ballas’ face? He was totally, completely shocked.

Shawn is adorable but not, imo, the best dancer of the year. I had Melissa and Tony in the pool – I really REALLY wanted to see Tony win one! Honestly Gilles was the best dancer of the season overall and he brought a previously sleepwalking Cheryl back to life. But, Shawn and Mark came on strong at the end and were far and away the best on the night of the finals. So… it’s all good.

I wanted Melissa to win but had a feeling she was going to come in third with Shawn getting an upset win. I really think the two best dancers have been Melissa and Gilles with Shawn improving towards the end of the season but still not enough to win imo. Sadly for Melissa and Tony, he’s not the best choreographer of the 3 and the music wasn’t good either which hurt them. I thought Gilles was the person to beat all season however he did peak early as Earthy said and never really improved. He did have the advantage of having Cheryl as a partner who is very good at choreography and the judges loved him. I’ll give Mark credit for coming up with routines to highlight Shawn’s strength.

I know people complained that Melissa had an unfair advantage due to previous dance experience but really it’s the athletes who come in with the built in fanbase. There have been 4 athlete winners, 5 if you count car racing. They were also all very good but do think their popularity gave them the edge they needed to win.

Well I think Gilles was the best actual dancer and should have won, but Shawn was this adorable little teletubby that Mark tossed around every chance he got and those stunts, not dances, won this for her, I believe.

i dont think the show is about being the best dancer out of everyone…it’s about being the best dancer you can be and growing as a performer. shawn deserved it. any of them deserved it. but her win shouldn’t be criticized because gilles can dance better. it’s also about entertainment. i personally never tuned in to see gilles because he bored me. i tuned in for shawn and i tuned in for ty.

But the professional judges pretty much said she had perfect technique every single week. I think they know what they are talking about. Her short stature did her no favors and neither did Lil Kim’s to be honest. Shawn to me, was a surprisingly good dancer. She brought out the sparkle in her performances in the past few weeks too. Her and Mark’s freestyle was the best hands down. My favorites from Shawn and Mark was the Cha Cha Cha (which they reprised last night), the Quickstep (to the Aladdin song), and their freestyle. Some great dancing on those indeed.

I would’ve been happy with Melissa winning too as I love her as well. Gilles was just ok for me. But he is a very classy gentleman and I loved how he cheered for Shawn and Mark when they were announced as the winners. So sweet.

I agree to this Oceana, I always forgot week to week that Shawn was still on, talk about entertaining, Lil Kim and Derek were that.

I had to said that the free style round that make Shawn and Mark win the mirror ball. Their free style are much better than the other pairs.

The pro dancers maybe had to take a note, celeb who had the best free style scores in the finale three, almost all of them won the title in the past seasons.

Tony need to work on his free style. Cherryl too. She had get into 4 finals, and only her freestyle with Drew got a perfect 30.

Meanwhile, Mark had the perfect 30 with his two partners in free style round. Mark , Derek and Julianne really are very strong in choreographing free style rounds.

Congrats for Shawn and Mark. This is truly the shocker of this season.
