DWTS Dancing with the Stars 23 Key Art

Welcome to the week three result show of Dancing with the Stars, season twenty-three. Tonight, the second couple of the season is eliminated after last night’s face-off challenge. Only six couples are up for elimination, but I would say only three are in any real jeopardy.

I wasn’t overly impressed with the show last night. I understand that time constraints resulted in a very different competition but I actually wish the show just took a week off and came back next week, even with a double elimination if they had to. The pairings were somewhat uneven and the judges had way too much power. It was also evident in some of the routines that the couples were treating this as nothing more than filler. That’s a shame considering for one of them, it will have been their final night of competitive dance.

As of this writing, here is what you guys thought of the show in the polls. 42% of you love Laurie & Val and 17% are team James & Sharna. Even in week three, no other couple has double digits for favorite partnership. How did you guys grade the face-offs? You agreed with the judges on who won, with only Amber & Maks coming somewhat close to the percentage Maureen & Artem received. But the rest of the face-off rounds were pretty much landslides, with MJ readers agreeing with who the judges picked as winners.

In an interesting poll result, it was almost a 50/50 tie in terms of how you guys enjoyed (or didn’t) the format of the show. A little over half of you enjoyed it and thought it was fair, while nearly the rest of you felt the whole immunity/judges scores situation was unfair. The show itself suffered as a result, as more folks voted for “average show” as compared to any other DWTS episode I have blogged and polled before.

So who do you guys think will be heading home tonight? 56% say Rick & Emma, 20% to Amber & Maks, and 11% to Ryan & Cheryl. I agree that those are the three couples in the most danger. Whether you believe last week’s “in jeopardy” was legit or not, Rick & Emma are the only duo out of those three who were safe outright. Could that mean the fans of the other two went into overdrive to vote? Could complacency cost Rick?

This is a tough one but like last week, I think Rick survives yet again. Which means we are left with two couples who each have returning pros. I feel as though Maks has a bit of an edge in that department with fans but Amber is less known as compared to Ryan. On the opposite end, Ryan’s sympathy from week one has run the course and his dancing hasn’t really impressed. I could flip a coin in all honesty but for now, I’ll just go with the no guts, no glory route and say Ryan & Cheryl are eliminated tonight.

Despite losing the face-off (it was against Laurie), I feel as though Marilu is definitely here for the long haul. As is Laurie. As is James. I am most confident about those three. The rest are really in two distinct piles of being middle of the road waiting to really break out, or fodder just waiting for the axe to drop. It almost feels like the three couples who are in the most danger tonight could end up being the next three to actually leave the competition. And someone is going to need to really shine each week with brilliant choreography and dancing to take this trophy from Laurie.

Tonight is a 2-hour result show, but the first hour I opted to skip live blogging because it is basically a repeat of last night with some added behind the scenes footage. For those of who you watched, I hope you enjoyed because last week felt like a marathon. I’ll start blogging in hour two, when the actual results are being announced. Let’s see who leaves us in week three.

Tom and Kym (substituting for Erin) are on hand live. The female pros and troupe members are out to perform. A fun and sexy routine. That was something you would see in a music video.

Backstage, Kym is with the six celebs who are in jeopardy tonight. Amber tried to do a little salsa and little hip-hop. She wanted to make sure she used her booty in the routine. Rick comments he can’t do that (shake his ass). Terra tried to bring a personal experience to the dance. Ryan tried to bring the sexy last night.

A look back at Amber and Marilu’s night. Amber says she is nervous and did a lot of rehearsing. She hopes her fans come through. Marilu is upset about how the dance went. Derek confirmed that they had a lot of mistakes but he tells her it will be okay. He told her in a very supporting way, not demeaning or anything like that. We are back live now.

Those two couples are on the stage for some results.
The first couple SAFE and definitely back next week is… Marilu & Derek.
Amber & Maks are IN JEOPARDY.

Florida Georgia Line are on hand to perform their tune “Holy.” Nice assist here from Jenna & Keo during the song. And that was a nice tune even though I don’t really follow these musicians. Now, some time for filler where the celebrities discuss the reality of what they got themselves into doing the show.

Kym is with the winning celebrities from last night. Maureen feels like she is in the greatest Disney movie that has ever been written. She loves everyone, from the crew to the contestants. Vanilla Ice slept a lot better last night thanks to Len giving him immunity. Calvin notes that he had fun and wanted to show some tenderness and emotion.

Time for another performance. Fitz and the Tantrums are here to perform “Handclap.” This is a cool song. Again, not really sure who these guys are. I am really exposing my weakness for popular music tonight. LOL. They have their own dancers performing with them.

Back to Kym backstage. Rick says he has lived his life in jeopardy, so he is rolling with it. Babyface is a little nervous but he and Allison feel good about what they did. Another look back at last night, this time with Rick and Babyface. Both Rick and Babyface are upse their messed up a bit. More results…

The next couple SAFE is… Babyface & Allison.
Rick & Emma are IN JEOPARDY.

Now, this song I have heard many times. Florida Georgia Line back again tonight to perform “Cruise.” Gleb & Lindsay out to dance. One of the better parts of these result shows is seeing the pros who don’t normally dance together getting the chance to show off their stuff.

Backstage, Kym talks with Marilu. She is so happy she is safe. Derek mentions he wasn’t stressed at all last night. He said his mom texting him complimenting Marilu. Kym tries to ask him twice if he was frustrated last night. He says that the rehearsal went a bit better but no stress. Babyface meanwhile, is relieved and amazed. Allison is very proud of Babyface.

Now, we have Maks and Val. They begin by introducing their show with a little comedy before they head out to the ballroom for a performance. A lucky audience member gets into the act. LOL. Oh gosh. Too funny. And now, about fifty people (a lot of kids) come running into the ballroom. Even Tom is jumping around. Talk about a party. Go out of your way to see the hilarity in this- especially when they grab the woman from the audience.

Len will be leaving for a couple of weeks to do the British show. He mentions it is difficult to fly in and out each week. He wants to make sure the other judges look for proper ballroom dancing, not just razzle and dazzle. In another piece of filler, Len shows us how a performance by the pros is put together. Of course, that bit of backstage footage leads us into a live performance in the ballroom. Len is on the mic as the troupe dances- cheering them on. He is very pleased.

I wonder if anyone will be replacing Len or if they will keep it to just three judges. I would prefer no guest judges. Anyways, back to footage from last night with Terra & Ryan. And back live, time for another set of results.

The next couple SAFE is… Ryan & Cheryl. WOW!
Terra & Sasha are IN JEOPARDY.

Next Monday, it is the first ever Cirque Du Soleil night. Acrobatics, flying, jumping, everything you come to expect in Cirque- in every routine next week. Well, that should be interesting to say the least.

This is it. Time for the final result of the night.

The final couple announced as safe is… Terra & Sasha.

Again, no official announcement on whether this is the proper bottom two but one of these couples is exiting the competition right now.

And the second couple going home is…

Rick & Emma

Emma nearly falls as Tom tries to pull Rick & Emma down fast due to time constraints. Rick says he will look good on the dance floor at his daughter’s wedding. He is also doing it for the veterans. Tom says he has been a gracious part of the cast as they head to the center of the ballroom. Kym joins Tom to sign off for the evening.

An expected result, as it was Rick’s time. The only surprise was Ryan actually being totally safe, though with this show’s in jeopardy manipulations, who knows for sure. And now we are down to eleven. I’ll see you next Monday guys! :D
