Dancing With The Stars 12 – Week 10 – The Final 3!

Chelsea Kane and Mark Ballas59
Hines Ward and Kym Johnson59
Kirstie Alley and Maksim Chmerkovskiy54

Chelsea Kane has youth, energy and the chops, Hines Ward has the joy and the personality and Kirstie Alley has the talent and the determination. All 3 couples bring something worthy to this finale. But who will take the mirror ball trophy tomorrow night?

It’s gotta be Hines Ward and Kym Johnson. Hines isn’t the best dancer, but he’s fun to watch and has an appealing personality, a backstory filled with triumph and adversity and he’s a sports hero. Who can beat that? NOBODY. Steeler nation WILL PREVAIL. I had to laugh when Hines talked about the mirror ball trophy taking the place of Superbowl ring he didn’t win earlier this year. Ha.

I’ll be live-blogging Dancing with the Stars tonight as three stars compete for the mirrored trophy ball! (Tomorrow night, I’ll have a post up, but really won’t be available to live blog. Crazy crazy busy with the Idol final tomorrow).

Chelsea Kane and Mark Ballas – Samba – Carrie Ann is helping the duo with their Judges choice dance. Carrie thought Chelsea’s first samba was too “perky”. Len: Every step you take…I’ll be watching you. I liked. A great number. Bruno: An ultra sexy bombshell. The rhythm was flowing through your body like I’ve never seen before. Carrie Ann: HOT HOT HOT. That is so what I was wanting for you. Down, dirt, sensual. – 1-800-868-3401 Carrie Ann – 10, Len – 9, Bruno – 10 – 291-800-868-3401 – VIDEO

Kirstie Alley and Maksim Chmerkovskiy – Samba – Bruno drops by to mentor. He’s going to fix Kirstie’s dainty little hands. Bruno: Softer, rich, full of lively pleasure. Full of womenhood. You are still looking at the floor! Carrie Ann: I love what you did. I love your movement quality. A really great samba. Len: It was appealing it was less aggressive, but had a lovely change of rhythm. It could have been a little crisper, but a great job. – Carrie Ann – 9 Len – 9 Bruno – 9 – 271-800-868-3411 – VIDEO

Hines Ward and Kym Johnson – Quickstep Len will help Hines with his feet. Point them down! Look at Kym in her neck brace. OUCH. Could Hines have a bigger smile on his face? He looks like he’s having a blast. Carrie Ann – That is so much fun! When you dance, you are able to make if feel like you’re running for a touchdown. Len: As good as that was, it’s not quite there yet. This competition is still anyone’s to win or lose. Bruno: It was like watching a mega production on Broadway, full of excitement. You connect with the audience like no one. Brilliant. – Carrie Ann – 10, Len – 9, Bruno – 10 – 291-800-868-3403 – VIDEO

Freestyle Round

Chelsea Kane and Mark Ballas – Mark wants choreography that’s FRESH and EDGY. BIKES! Jonas! Len: This was so full on, it was fantastic. Well done. Bruno: It’s electrifying. Push to the limit of your ability.  You interpreted Latin rhythms with a contemporary twist. Carrie Ann:  Carrie  shows her approval by getting up to dance! Carrie Ann – 10 Len – 10 Bruno – 10 – 3059 – VIDEO

Kirstie Alley and Maksim Chmerkovskiy – Maksim and Kirstie WILL be doing lifts. MAKS IS STRONG. Bruno: 10 weeks ago I would have never thought of you attempting to do lifts.  Respect girl. Respect.  Carrie Ann: You are the new poster child for how life should be lived at 60 years old.  Len: You’ve got to risk it if you want the biscuit. I comment you. Well done. Carrie Ann – 9 Len – 9 Bruno – 9 – 2754 (The crowd is BOOOOing) – VIDEO

Hines Ward and Kym Johnson – Drumline! The halftime act is coming…  It’s never been done on Dancing with the Stars.  Carrie Ann: That was risky. That wasn’t a halftime show…that was the whole superbowl! You guys are amazing. Len: The more you give the more points you take. You’ve given your all. Bruno: You pulled out all the stops and created a crowd pleasing event! Carrie Ann – 10 Len – 10 Bruno – 10 – 3059 – VIDEO

That was still a pretty perky samba and why didn’t Carrie Ann tell Chelsea to stop making those faces? Also Mark is trying to be humble and nice tonight. Is it too little too late?

  • OnePlusSix

Rats, I missed Chelsea and Mark. Catch it later.

Kirstie looks good but like Len said it could be a little crisper.

  • jlc

Mark’s been pretty sweet & humble for the last few weeks, actually. Perhaps someone has been peeking at the forums?

  • bentley1530

C and M’s freestyle was a disappointment for me because it did not make use of her great technique and her musicality. I do not agree with the judges at all.

  • jlc

Mark & Chelsea’s freestyle: Lots going on but didn’t really wow me. I’m really nervous for Kirstie/Maxs freestyle…afraid she’s gonna fall–or something!

  • jlc

this is gonna be awesome if they pull it off!

  • iluvai

    wow Kirstie!!!

  • jlc

OMG I am soooo PROUD of Kirstie!!! 60 friggin’ years old!!! YOU GO GIRL!!!

  • callmecrazy

Mark and Chelsea’s freestyle was NOT fun to watch….spend too much time lifting and flipping than dancing. And those lit up shoes made them look like they were squashing roaches in the dark.

  • littlefishie

C and M’s freestyle was a disappointment for me because it did not make use of her great technique and her musicality. I do not agree with the judges at all.

I agree. The choreography felt frantic and rushed. Of Mark’s freestyle choreo, I still prefer the one he did with Kristi.

  • OnePlusSix

Mark and Chelsea, young and fresh, but I agree with callmecrazy I could have done with less gymnastics and more dancing.

Kirstie – wow, gutsy and good. Way to go girlfriend.

  • littlefishie

    Hines and Kym were *adorable*!!!

  • sunchick

Aww, I am so torn between Hines and Kirstie right now. I loved loved loved Hines’s quickstep and freestyle (with a big ass Steeler S on his chest, woooo!!), but Kirstie’s freestyle also gave me goosebumps. It was just so liberating and special. Kudos to Maks and Kym for working around limitations with creative choreo. Love them both.

Chelsea is sweet and a fine dancer, but I’m a bit turned off by Len’s “the best dancer should win” stuff. Every other season it was stressed that it’s not necessarily the best dancer, otherwise how can you explain Helio being scored the same as Mel, or Emmit scoring the same as Mario Lopez, or whatever crazy ass scores they gave Bristol at the end of last season…

OMG I just saw Lynn Swann! I swear!

  • callmecrazy

Bravo to both Kirstie and Maks….*claps happily*

  • bentley1530

Kim is so pretty and seems like a really nice person and I think she always does a good job with her stars, even the ones with limited talent. I am voting her her as much as for Hines.

  • Ellessay

I don’t care who wins. I thought all three couples were great. I guess for pure talent it should be Chelsea, for pure joy and enthusiasm, it should be Hines, for courage and hard work, it should be Kirstie. I’ve really enjoyed Kirstie’s journey on the show more than anyone elses.

  • Banished

Maybe I am not completely neutral right now, but I thought Hines and Kym stole the show with the freestyle. Their lifts were fantastic. The youngins’ didn’t seem to do any if much if I recall. In fact all I can remember from Chelsea’s dance was that her lights went out!

  • callmecrazy

Yup, the lights went out on Chelsea during her freestyle….could have been a sign that the dance was just not up to par. Hines freestyle was the best, loved it…..sure was proud of Kirstie tho. I think it will be between Kirstie and Hines vying for the oh so breakable dollar tree mirrored ball trophy….

  • earthy

Kristie did well for her age and got back in much better shape because if this show but now she needs to bow out in third to let the best two couples battle it out for the win. Congrats to Kristie for going this far.

After that I don’t care but I think I want Hines and Kym to win since I think Hines is a better fan showman type of dancer then Chelsea and Mark already has enough titles as it it is.

  • Dlynne

I really like all three stars who are left but I didn’t enjoy the choreography much tonight.

I might be suffering from DWTS fatigue, but when did the freestyle become more about lifts and gymnastics than dancing? The best of the night was definitely Hines and Kym, and that’s mostly because they danced more during their freestyle.

  • hcpoirot

Mark strategy to use dancing in the dark shoes will cost them runner up.

HInes will win. He is popular sportmen and got a pimp spot. 30 in free style and when the producer (these days) only give you 3 dances instead of 4 in finale mean, their first pick choice in this case Hines had a very high people votes before finale.

  • Renee in CA

Mark’s decision to have the lights cut and use the cuff and shoes was dumb – he has the young hottie dancer, and you’re doing half the dance in the dark?!? COMPLETELY stupid idea.

I didn’t think any of the freestyles was very good. Max did his usual crap freestyle; Mark’s had the above error, and since when does march music work in a dance competition? Bleh.

Oh well, makes it easy for me to just tape the Glee season finale tomorrow evening.

  • vjb475

Had to wait to watch video as my tv station had no picture for half the show.
Why would the judges have Kirstie & Maks do samba right after the kids? Since they were doing the same dance Kirstie & Maks should have gone first so they would not be compared to Chelsea & Mark.
Loved them all, voting for Kirstie & Maks.

  • Allison

I really don’t feel compelled to vote for any one after last night. I supposed Chelsea is the best dancer, but I like Kym alot this year, and have a soft spot for Kirstie.

  • http://www.comcast.net KAT80

Loved Chelsea and Mark’s routines. Chelsea is the best dancer and has come a long way since the beginning of the competition, especially being an unknown to the public. Kirstie did great, especially for her age, and Hines did really good as well. He appeals to the public. But I enjoy watching Chelsea and Mark the most so that is who I voted for.

  • CRB

Chelsea is such a ringer. Hines should win, imo.

  • cher

I have a soft spot for Kirstie and Maks, but I also love Hines and Kym. Hate having to choose. Either of them winning would be fine for me though. :)

I think I heart Maks after last night.
