Dancing With The Stars – Season 18 – Week 2

Dancing With The Stars : Season 18 photo DWTS18_fin.jpg

Hey guys!!! My name is Amanda and I will be filling in for Franky this season as your live blogger for Dancing With the Stars. Just to tell you a little about myself, I work and go to school full time, I have been blogging for six years (Celebrity Bug) and I love all things entertainment including reality television.

Now, let’s get back to the show. Last week, we saw a couple of expected frontrunners emerged (Charlie and Meryl) and we watched as two former teen stars surprised us by dancing better than most would have predicted (Candace and Danica), but others fizzled under the pressure of the lights.

Tonight, all of the celebrities will once again grace the dance floor and take on the the style of dance that they told producers they were hoping to tackle during their run on the show. The pros kick things off with one of their usual flashly dances, and both the judges and the celebrities get in on the action.

Tom Bergeron welcomes us to the show with new (and improved) co-host Erin Andrews by his side looking beautiful. Another surprising twist is revealed… TWO COUPLES ARE GOING HOME TONIGHT!

Drew & Cheryl (Jive)

Drew talks about how the pressure is getting bigger and bigger every week, and how the reaction from the crowd makes him relax more than simply being in rehearsals, because he feels more in his element. He’s definitely a crowd pleaser with loads of personality. The dancing, however, needs some refining, because it is a tad bit too loose and too sloppy.

Len loves that there was a lot of content, Bruno thinks he is so in tune with what the crowd wants despite making some mistakes, and Carrie Ann thought he took a risk and did a good job.

Billy Dee & Emma, Meryl & Maks and Danica & Val are all declared SAFE.

Danica & Val (Samba)

Val didn’t think they stood out enough last week (I disagree and so does Danica). The pressure is getting to her and she doesn’t feel ready, but lets see how that transitions onto the dance floor. She starts off well and just as I expected, she has nothing to worry about, she’s a good dancer. A couple of awkward moments here and there, but overall, she does a good job.

Bruno thinks she did good, but isn’t all the way there yet. Carrie Ann agrees, but thought her technique was still great and Len thinks she is on the right track and will be around for a while.

Carrie Ann-8, Len-8, Bruno-8, = 24/30

Billy Dee & Emma (Tango)

Billy was disappointed by his performance last week and wanted to cry. Emma doesn’t want him to feel defeated and brings some pretty girls in to help him relax and have fun. Unfortunately, he’s like a lost a boy in the woods and the viewers would have done him justice by not voting. It is better than last week, but still terrible.

Carrie Ann thought it lacked content despite being better, Len didn’t think it had enough attack and Bruno rambles, but basically says he let the girls do all of the work.

Carrie Ann-5, Len-5, Bruno-5, = 15/30
To Vote For Billy Dee & Emma:

10 Vote Limit Per Method /Per ABC.COM / Facebook Account.

Meryl & Maks (Swing)

They continue to flirt, but who can blame her? Meryl says she chose the swing, because she want to do flips and all of the crazy tricks that comes with the dance. Maks is uncomfortable flipping people (this would explain why his freestyles have been so disappointing) and he thinks he’s too old for this. I wasn’t overly-excited by their performance last week, but they are killing this routine. Not something that you expect to see in just week two of the competition.

Len thought “that swing had wings”. Bruno thought the level of difficulty was incredible, but that she lost her footing/timing a couple of times. The crowd boos! Carrie Ann saw the mistakes too, but she still thinks Meryl is a star.

Carrie Ann-8, Len-9, Bruno-8, = 25/30
To Vote For Meryl & Maks:
Call 800-868-3406, or Use ABC.COM and/or Facebook.
10 Vote Limit Per Method /Per ABC.COM / Facebook Account.

Amy & Derek and Candace & Mark are all SAFE. Diana & Henry are ELIMINATED, but they still get to show us their Cha-Cha-Cha. Unfortunately, it only reaffirms that America got one of their decisions right.

Candace & Mark (Rumba)

Candace mentions that she got one more point that Danica (the rivalry lives on), but she realizes that they have to keep working hard to remain in the lead. She surprised me big time last week and once again, she delivers a beautiful dance that is full of emotion.

Carrie Ann didn’t think it felt like a rumba and even though I liked it, I will agree that is felt more contemporary than Rumba. Len thought she did well for someone who has never danced and Bruno thought it lacked fluidity, while both reaffirm Carrie Ann’s thoughts. I see where they are coming from, but the same score as Drew… No Way!

Carrie Ann-7, Len-7, Bruno-7, = 21/30
To Vote For Candace & Mark:

Amy & Derek (Swing)

Amy wanted to do the swing because it seems like fun, but she is worried about all of the fast movements. She says there is a chance that her legs could fly off while she is dancing. Not that it matters, because after the first swing, this one simply lacks the same punch. Still amazing (and inspiring) to see her dancing and overall, it took guts to choose it and she does a nice job.

Len thought she was amazing, Bruno loved the unexpected twists and Carrie Ann thought they were incredibly in sync with each other.

Carrie Ann-8, Len-8, Bruno-8, = 24/30
To Vote For Amy & Derek:

James & Peta and Charlie & Sharna are both SAFE. The former is dancing next.

James & Peta (Salsa)

Peta wants James to be more than just eye candying, and he thinks they could accomplish this by dancing naked and having great technique. I wouldn’t object. The chemistry between these two are undeniable, but the dancing, is kind of messy.

Bruno thought he came out of his shell and has the abs to prove it. Carrie Ann thought he joined the ranks of some of the past sexy alums including Mario Lopez and Gilles Marini. A big compliment… Possibly too big! Len thought he came out full of force, but lost some of the quality.

Carrie Ann-9, Len-8, Bruno-8, = 25/30
To Vote For James & Peta:
Call 800-868-3402, or Use ABC.COM and/or Facebook.
10 Vote Limit Per Method /Per ABC.COM / Facebook Account.

Charlie & Sharna (Tango)

Charlie talks to Maks to get into bad boy mode, because having been with the same woman for nearly five years, the feeling isn’t natural for him. He realizes he is a frontrunner and wants to maintain that status throughout the show. The guy sells his bad boy character effectively enough (I guess), but his dancing is key. So good!

Carrie Ann thought the power of his confidence came shining through, but Len scolds him for breaking hold. Bruno thought it was slick and loves when he pays it bad.

Carrie Ann-9, Len-7, Bruno-9, = 25/30
To Vote For Charlie & Sharna:
Call 800-868-3412, or Use ABC.COM and/or Facebook.
10 Vote Limit Per Method /Per ABC.COM / Facebook Account.

The remaining three couples will all dance and then, we will learn their fate.

NeNe & Tony (Jive)

NeNe chose the Jive because of its her husband’s favorite, but she is starting to regret her decision and even threatens divorce. Hasn’t she already been down that road? As for the dancing, it just doesn’t live up to her big personality. Its feels too small. Too reserved. Too safe.

Len thought it was a tough dance to do in week two and that she made a few mistakes. Bruno didn’t think it was sharp enough and Carrie Ann though her arms could have been bigger. Tony disagree and says that is not traditionally how the Jive is done. He’s may be right, but it still doesn’t make up for this lackluster dance.

Carrie Ann-7, Len-7, Bruno-7, = 21/30

10 Vote Limit Per Method /Per ABC.COM / Facebook Account.

Sean & Karina (Salsa)

The rehearsals deal a lot with his lack of enthusiasm, but he is in this and doesn’t want to be the first to go home. He is really trying, but his footwork is hideous. The movements don’t come natural to him and while there is something intriguing about him, he is not a strong dancer.

Bruno wants him to stick about, because he has so much more learn and he wants to see more. Carrie Ann thought he was very authentic. Len tells him the secret to the show is to get higher scores every week and for him, he succeeded.

Carrie Ann-7, Len-7, Bruno-7, = 21/30.

Cody & Witney (Tango)

Whitney works with Cody mostly on his technique and although he chose the Tango, he didn’t know much about the dance. They plan on following the hold rules, but struggle a bit between the tradition of the dance and giving it a modern feel. He is clearly counting every moment in his head and it shows BIG TIME. He is less awkward than last week and overall, it is an improvement. The technique is still lacking though.

Carrie Ann thought it came together about halfway through and that the height difference between him and Witney affected him. Len pointed out him incorporating the moonwalk and just thought it got a little too loose. Bruno thought it was compelling and compares him to Edward from Twilight. Too far Bruno. Too far. All in all, he took a step forward.

Carrie Ann-7, Len-7, Bruno-8, = 22/30
To Vote For Cody & Witney:
Call 800-868-3408, or Use ABC.COM and/or Facebook.

NeNe & Tony are SAFE! Either Cody or Sean is going home. I suspect it will be the latter and of course, it is. Sean & Karina are ELIMINATED!
