Welcome to week four of season twenty-two of Dancing with the Stars! Tonight, we celebrate the wonderful world of imagination, magic, and wonder with “Disney Night.” Ten routines danced to some of your favorite classic and new Disney songs from the movies we love. From a Jazz routine to Aladdin to a Waltz from The Little Mermaid, there’s something for everyone tonight. As usual, all couples are performing an unlearned routine and at the end of the evening, a third pairing will be sent packing. Let’s look at the polls…

41% of you picked Nyle & Peta as your favorite partnership, which is actually a nice increase over the percentage they had last week. Wanya & Lindsay have 18% and Paige & Mark have 14%. Jodie & Keo end up double digits as well with 12%. 42% of you loved Nyle & Peta and their Tango. 17% favored the Paso Doble from Paige & Mark. 15% of you went with the Foxtrot from Jodie & Keo and 13% of you loved the Waltz performed by Wanya & Lindsay. On the opposite end, three dances ended up with double digit percentages for least favorite routines. Doug & Karina and their Waltz tied with Marla & Tony and the Jive, both with 24%. The Contemporary routine from Von & Witney was picked by 16%. Another Contemporary piece, the one done by Ginger & Val had 9% of the vote. 97% of you agreed with Mischa’s elimination. I think the other 3% were trolling LOL. 43% of you picked Bruno as favorite judge, with Carrie Ann getting 31% and Len at 27%. Last week’s episode was rated a healthy B by the majority. What about tonight’s boot?

64% believe Doug & Karina are out. 22% said Marla & Tony. I agree. It is between those two. But will we see a surprise in the bottom (in jeopardy) with them? Jodie was a bit of a surprise last week, though it could have been the producers trying to earn her some votes. Could we see one of the other football players in jeopardy this week? It is possible. But I feel pretty darn confident that this is the end of the road for either Doug or Marla. From a dancing perspective only, Marla has earned another week. But when you consider everything, she may not have the votes to stay over Doug. We shall see.

I fully expect tonight’s routines to be stellar from a costume/music/theme perspective because ABC network is owned by Disney and some of the films being paid tribute to this evening haven’t come out yet. You just know the network wants to be sure these films get all the exposure they can. But previous Disney nights have been fun to watch, so I think we are in for a solid night. With all that being said, here we go…

Aww. Mickey and Minnie are out to start us off. And here comes our pros and troupe members. They are dancing to “Be Our Guest” and it is a fun routine. Hi Edyta! Here come the stars. Cute costumes and makeup on everyone. They are really going all out tonight. Heck, even the judges get their own entrance. Mandy Moore (naturally) choreographed that. I feel like I need to start a gofundme for any other choreographers to put together an opening routine on this show. – Click to Watch the Opening Number Performance VIDEO

Antonio & Sharna – Jazz (Aladdin)
ANTONIO BROWN, SHARNA BURGESS
Sharna says the judges are still not happy. She says something needs to change. Antonio gets to be Aladdin tonight. Sharna says that Antonio needs to bring his cool cat and she needs a genie tonight. A better routine here from Antonio. I think the fact that his is jazz, which is an open-ended style helps. Sharna was able to give him more steps that he could attack without worrying too much about style or technicality. I don’t think it was smart to have him dance with the male pros because as she said she feared in the rehearsal package, they totally out-danced him. But once Sharna came into the picture, it got much better. This is a step in the right direction and he seemed to have fun. Let’s see what happens next week when things get more technical again. – Click to Watch Antonio & Sharna’s Jazz performance VIDEO

Len says the dancer in Antonio came out and he produced his best dance. Zendaya says it was so much fun. She thought it was amazing. Bruno says the Disney magic is working already. Carrie Ann calls Antonio a smooth operator. She thought it was incredible.

*Wow, that was a bit over-scored. Either the judges are in a very good mood thanks to the theme of the night or producers told them to be kind with Antonio. He goes from 6’s and 7’s to three 9’s. Hmm.

Marla & Tony – Waltz (The Little Mermaid)
TONY DOVOLANI, MARLA MAPLES
Marla was very emotional last week. She has suffered a lot of loss in the last few years. She mentions how there is so much details to worry about in rehearsal. When she gets stressed, she does a cartwheel or a handstand- and ends up breaking things. LOL. Okay. A nice waltz, though very careful. Simplistic in steps, which is fine for a waltz, but you could see the “dance steps” in Marla’s face more than any previous dance she has done. I’m not sure why because that was probably her easiest. A tad bit unsteady at times but her hold was decent, a plus in the waltz. She was stronger last week when she actually had more to do. – Click to Watch Marla & Tony’s Waltz Performance VIDEO

Zendaya thought it was beautiful. But she does think Marla got stuck in her head a bit. She found it fluid. Bruno calls it beautiful. He says she needs to maintain the body contact. Carrie Ann thought Marla brought Ariel to life. She wants to let her know to watch her hands and to not look so scared sometimes. Len says it had charm, elegance, and romance.

Nyle & Peta – Samba (Tarzan)
NYLE DIMARCO, PETA MURGATROYD
Nyle was very excited about last week’s scores but he knows he needs to work very hard. Nyle feels like the story of Tarzan and Jane is familiar to he and Peta. Nyle wants to go all out tonight in character. Strong routine! Love how in character Nyle is. And oh wow, samba rolls. You guys know how hard those are to pull off and make look right. And Nyle and Peta did. Again, crazy musicality considering Nyle doesn’t hear the song because they went for a bongo piece in the middle and Nyle actually hit it right on time with the beats. Impressive. I guess practice really does make perfect. That was a lot of fun and mixed in some nice technical aspects with good old fashioned joy. – Click to Watch Nyle & Peta’s Samba Performance VIDEO

Bruno appreciates the costume. He says it was great work. Carrie Ann asks what can’t Nyle do. She calls him the happiest place on earth. She mentions a mistake at the beginning. Len says he and Nyle are similar in bodies. He makes a note that there was a bit too much of the bongo stuff but in terms of the samba, it was terrific. Zendaya appreciates the musicality.

Doug & Karina – Jazz (Mary Poppins)
DOUG FLUTIE, KARINA SMIRNOFF
Doug was very proud of last week’s routine and this week is going to be fun.Doug gets very frustrated in rehearsal when he messes up. Karina makes a good point that he didn’t become awesome at football in two days. Hmm. Okay, so a lot of that was a mess. Doug was off in the beginning when trying to do the side-by-side with Karina, the lifts were a tad sloppy (one had me scared Karina was going down) and the majority of it was unsteady. In direct opposition to Antonio, I think the style of jazz hurt Doug because he didn’t have the restrictions. He is the type that seemingly needs to have proper steps to practice. When the routine is more free of technicality, he lost some steam. – Click to Watch Doug & Karina’s Jazz Performance VIDEO

Carrie Ann saw the makings of a good routine but it wasn’t delivered on. She mentions a lot of mistakes. Len liked the character. He found it enjoyable but out-of-sync. Zendaya says mistakes happen. You have to challenge it the right way. Bruno says the medicine kicked in half way through.

*Tom tells Doug & Karina they are safe! Surprise! Could we be seeing a shocker later?

Kim & Sasha – Quickstep (The Jungle Book)
KIM FIELDS, SASHA FARBER
Kim and Sasha are too funny in rehearsals. Kim is finding the tempo of the quickstep a little difficult. She says the two of them are having fun but definitely working hard. I see absolutely nothing wrong with this routine. Good frame, nice footwork, fast when it needs to be, fun when it needs to be, and Kim and Sasha are blending beautifully. I thought that was Kim’s best dance so far and when thinking about her solid routine last week, she is definitely making a case for sticking around in the competition. She should be really proud of that performance. – Click to Watch Kim & Sasha’s Quickstep Performance VIDEO

Len says it had plenty of zip. He calls it her best dance so far. Zendaya says it looks like she was having so much fun. The steps looked clean to her. Bruno loved how fast it was. He loved the energy level. He also applauds her shoulders, which he has been telling her about for weeks. Carrie Ann loves the partnership.

*The switch-up is next week and you can still use twitter or go to the official ABC site to create new partnerships and pick the dance styles. And I just realized how much trouble this could be for Nyle. Peta has spent weeks now perfected her teaching method for him and he has to deal with someone new and that someone has to do their best with him. This isn’t going to be easy.

Jodie & Keo – Cha-Cha-Cha (Zootopia)
JODIE SWEETIN, KEO MOTSEPE
Jodie says this is a tough week because they are dancing with animation. Jodie’s kids are really excited and they come into rehearsal. Jodie’s daughter is adorable. First, I would have dumped the animation. Keo probably had no choice in the matter but it was distracting. Second, a small misstep by Jodie towards the middle kinda through her for a loop for the remainder of the dance. She got out of place and had a tough time recovering. A simple cha-cha-cha done really well up until that point. It ended nicely enough though. – Click to Watch Jodi & Keo’s Cha Cha VIDEO

Zendaya mentions some messy mistakes but says Jodie kept going with a smile. “Anyone who didn’t see it, didn’t see it,” she says. Well, except that you just mentioned it. LOL. Bruno agrees Jodie covered her errors. He also wants the wow factor out. Carrie Ann calls it an underwhelming performance. Jodie says she couldn’t hear the music. Carrie Ann says Jodie wanted her to lean into Keo more. Len calls it full on. He says that Jodie went wrong. That was simply it.

Von & Witney – Viennese Waltz (Cinderella)
VON MILLER, WITNEY CARSON
Witney wonders if it is a coincidence that all three football players ended up at the bottom of the leaderboard? Von doesn’t understand how he got the same scores as some of the others. Not a very good edit for Von here. Don’t moan too much about scoring. Just rehearse. Witney gives him pointers about being on his best behavior to be like Prince Charming this week. Nice. And elegant. And well choreographed. A very thematically on point viennese waltz. I saw good hold, nice footwork, and a very elevated level of fluidity. You can tell Von put the practice in. And for the first time this season, I can compliment Witney for choreographing something that fit him and their partnership very well. – Click to Watch Von & Witney’s Viennese Waltz Performance VIDEO

Bruno was amazed at the transformation from last week. He wants him to work on his turns a bit but he really liked it. Carrie Ann compliments Witney- on how she looks. She tells Von that he was adorable and charming. Len says this week was fab for Von. Zendaya calls it graceful.

Ginger & Val – Foxtrot (Beauty And The Beast)
GINGER ZEE, VALENTIN CHMERKOVSKIY
Ginger wants to improve in the scores. Val wants better scores as well. Ginger compares herself to Belle. Is there a reason Val took the first quarter of the dance before actually coming out and getting down to a foxtrot? He just loves those extended openings with minimal dancing. Geez. Too much fiddling around. Between having too many dancing with them and the dancing on the fountain, so much of that was unnecessary. What I saw from Ginger doing the actual foxtrot was quite good (hold, footwork, character) but come on, it could have been a lot more. That’s on Val. No idea if the judges will agree or totally overlook it though. – Click to Watch Ginger & Val’s Foxtrot Performance VIDEO

Carrie Ann calls it ridiculously good. She says it was the best hold she has seen from any partnership this season. Len calls it a tasty dish. He says it was the best dance of the season. Zendaya loved the production. Bruno calls it a visual treat. He loved it.

*Wow, so over-scored in relation to the style. Len usually hates when the routines have too much in them and the dancers get right into it, yet he calls this the best dance of the season? Okay…

Wanya & Lindsay – Samba (The Lion King)
WANYA MORRIS, LINDSAY ARNOLD
LOL @ Wanya holding up the mirrorball. Lindsay says Wanya is very competitive. He’s very determined. Nice! Samba rolls yet again. Kudos to both Nyle and Wanya tonight for doing those and doing them correctly. This was arguably the best dance tonight combining the theme, song, and dance. If I had any critique, it would be that a little more in-hold samba moves would have been appreciated. There was a lot of freestyle stuff going on there. But it was crowd pleasing. Wanya is definitely an entertainer. And he and Lindsay always bring something fun to watch. Good stuff. – Click to Watch Wanya & Lindsay’s Samba Performance VIDEO

Len says it was fantastic. Zendaya says The Lion King was done justice. Bruno calls Wanya a magnificent beast. He also compliments his rhythm. Carrie Ann loves seeing his side of Wanya. She felt Wanya over-danced the beginning and he lost Lindsay a bit.

Paige & Mark – Quickstep (Toy Story)
PAIGE VANZANT, MARK BALLAS
Paige has found new friends on the show outside of fighting. Paige feels as though this is the perfect song for Mark and her. This rehearsal package is very sentimental and not so much heavy on the dancing. Hmm. Alright. Cute! I better not hear Len babble about too much going on this dance considering he let nearly a whole dance go by from Ginger with so much going on. This was fun. Some of the usual quickstep moves but a nice added touch by Mark to make it memorable and fun. Probably the perfect dance to fit Paige and a nice way to the night. She has had better routines (namely last week) but this was really solid. – Click to Watch Paige & Mark’s Quickstep Performance VIDEO

Zendaya felt like she was nine years old. She found it so fun. Bruno says Paige hit all the marks. He calls it refreshingly wonderful. Carrie Ann called it the most difficult dance performed. Len calls the night on a whole- fantastic. He is very looking forward to the switch-up.

ELIMINATION TIME FOLKS. BOO!

Alright, so we know Doug & Karina are safe.

In Jeopardy:
Marla & Tony
Jodie & Keo

And going home tonight (since everyone else is safe) is…

Marla & Tony
TONY DOVOLANI, MARLA MAPLES

Tony says “wow.” He is surprised I guess. Marla compliments Tony and says she is happy. Tony didn’t expect this at all. He gives props to the show though because he still happy after all these years.

I’m not as surprised as Tony. Once Doug was announced safe, it pretty much had to be Marla. A shame because she was actually a better dancer but that’s how it goes. Click to Watch Marla & Tony’s Elimination VIDEO

Next week is the switch-up. I’m not sure if we will have an elimination or not because of that, or if the scores from tonight and next week will be combined but we will see. So, “Disney Night” comes to a close in rather bittersweet fashion. Of course an elimination has to happen, but it is a bummer after such a fun ride though the Disney catalogue. I turn it over to you guys in both the comment section here, and in a new POLLS thread which will be up very soon. I look forward to chatting with you guys and hope you enjoyed the show and the blog this week.
