This afternoon, (March 18) Crystal Bowersox visited the Metropark store at Century City in Los Angeles, CA to do a little shopping!

Crystal has to spruce up her wardrobe before the Top 11 takes on that Teen Idol theme next week. Heh.

Crystal browsed the merch with her Idol stylist, and bought about $500 worth of clothing to wear next week for American Idol.

Did she just buy that blaze orange deer hunting dress or did she wear it in?

I love her tho, my favorite this year. Just curious what song she picked.

    Hey! Color!!!

Are they spending their own money, or do they get an allowance? I remember Adam blowing all his dough on a jacket (or was it that silvery shirt?) at some point, but I don’t know if it was his money or not.

It will be so interesting to see the outfits for teen week. I can’t wait to see what Crystal picked out.

  • jammasta

Does anyone else think she looks great in orange?

  • LadyBeBop

The Top 12 get a clothing allowance, but I think it’s less than $500/week.

Hoping for a good week for Crystal. I shouldn’t be, but I’m a little nervous. This is the cutdown for the tour. I’ve lost Lilly already. I don’t want to lose Crystal before the tour.

Does anyone know how it works with the stylists? How many are there, who hires them and stuff like that?

  • jammasta

I’ve lost Lilly already. I don’t want to lose Crystal before the tour.

Don’t worry, I’ll destroy the world if she doesn’t and I know how much nobody in the world wants to be destroyed.

One of the stylists, talking about Adam, last year said they get $600 a week. They can spend as much of their own money as they want.

Okay, I think Crystal is now ready to play this game! :D (Once again, I hope she got a chance to talk to DC last night.) I like the shirt, thanks for posting mj. I think my tween daughter would love it!

I’m rooting for you Crystal. Love ya’ no matter what!

I remember that their clothing allowance was that exact 500 dollars a week, and going over that, it would be from their own pocket. Contestants spending the most this far: Ruben (can’t get those tailored suits for cheap) and Adam (Dolche & Cabbana among others)

I wonder if the judges will use the “you dress too young” -stick to the older contestants this week?

I’m pretty sure the clothing allowance is $500 or close to it. I think what they don’t spend, they can bank for later use. I remember Taylor was hoarding cash to buy that cranberry velvet jacket he wore at the end. I hated it, but he thought it looked Ray Charles and loved it.

Mandisa shopped a discount place for plus size women because she wanted the most bang for her buck. Anything over budget comes out of their own pocket. Ace Young had very expensive tastes and his family foot the bill. I think similar with Katherine.

I guess you can tell the only season I paid any attention to the clothes issue was season 5.

I’m pretty sure the clothing allowance is $500 or close to it.

I definitely remember reading an article over the past season or two where it disclosed their allowance for clothes to be $400 for the early rounds (Top 24/36?), with increasing amounts as they move forward in the competition. My guess is Mama Sox isn’t going over her budget.

Among the items she bought? Metropark’s WYL “Gloria Lace Top,” (see photo), which retails for $64.00 and definitely has that Stevie Nicks-meets-”Idol” kind of look, a black button front tube linen dress ($59) and a gray woven Deep V Tunic ($34). In between fittings, Crystal obliged a few fans who stopped by and asked to take a photo. “She was really sweet,” says an observer.

If she purchased items at these prices, she certainly isn’t breaking the bank! It’s also nice to see comments about how sweet Crystal is in person, and that she is friendly to fans.

I remember Carrie saying that Bo went over the budget every week … And his grandma was *making* him clothes, besides! I remember something about his leather flipflops for The Love of Money costing the entire week’s budget or something on that order!

  • hicksaholic

That’s odd about Bo. Taylor’s purple jacket was one of the most, if not the most memorable AI fashion choice moment.

  • bean99

Hopefully Crystal branches out a little in her new wardrobe. She can dress it up and still be herself.

  • abbysee

Well I like that blouse from the LA Times photo. It’s pretty. She doesn’t need a makeover so much as a more fashionable slant on her own look. I certainly don’t want to see her in a cutesy cocktail dress, or some barely there peekaboo crap. She knows what she likes, now they need to marry that with what she can look good in.

I would think that Bo went over budget alot because he really dressed the part for every theme. Taylor’s purple jacket was indeed a memorable fashion choice. I would think that certain people went over budget every week..

I don’t like her…(haven’t I already said that? Oops, sorry for repeating myself :)) But that blouse is REALLY ugly…she should take fashion advice from Adam (J/K!!!!!)

Ace Young had very expensive tastes and his family foot the bill. I think similar with Katherine.

To my recollection as an Ace fan, the only time he mentioned spending a lot for clothes is when he bought the suit he wore during standards week. His grandparents were going to be there, and they did not take that well to his long hair and the way he would dress, I believe he had said.

I remember an interview where Kelly said she thought she was on “ghetto idol” Season 1 got dropped off at the mall or something like that. I think they do get 400-500 dollars a week.

  • martha

They are given a wardrobe allowance each week as far as I know.
