I was at this mini-concert and two things struck me. 1.) How powerful her voice is live. The CD almost doesn’t do her justice. and 2.) how gracious she is. Even walking up to the front of the line for photos, she greeted many in the line before she even made it up front. I was last in line and she even signed CD’s for my children. They had announced that she would not do autographs, but once I explained that I was a VI she happily signed the CD’s to each of my children and wrote a personal message. They are overjoyed tonight and working on thank you letters.

I think everyone who walked out of that place became an even bigger fan. I hope Jive realizes what they have in a talent like that. She really does impress and shine live. That was a great way to spend a lunch hour.

I’ve seen quite a few live performers and I have to say that her voice, live, is right up there with the best I’ve heard – and she may just have the most versatile voice I’ve ever heard live. She can go from an almost hard rock edge to soothingly sweet in about a second. And the thing that really gets me about that is that, as I’ve said before, she’s tiny – you don’t expect so much to come from her when you actually see her.

Is KINK a AAA station? I’m assuming it is.

I’m really getting curious what they’ll go with for a 2nd single – assuming they actually release one, which I’d think they would. I’d talked about it in a thread before, but another thing I wonder is how much influence Crystal herself has on that, and how much will be Jive’s decision. I’m sure they’d probably like to go with one of the co-written songs but at this point I don’t think either one would be a good choice given the precedent that FD set – stylistically at least. (And BTW this is one of the best live versions of FD I’ve heard that she’s done – in fact, probably about the best period, including her original acoustic demo of it.) Honestly…I’d like to see them go with Mine All Mine. I think it could almost work on country and HAC in addition to AAA as well…at least as well as any other song on her album. Plus, it’s probably become my favorite song on the album too, lol.

    Yes, it is :)
thanks for the report turpen123, I’m always amazed how great her voice is live, just from seeing video, it must have been a treat to hear her live in the room.

  • suziq

“A young voice with an old soul”…the dj/interviewer was right on with that description at the end of his interview.

  • fuzzywuzzy

Another wonderful appearance from Crystal. I think that she’s becoming more relaxed in interviews, and these are maybe the best live performances I’ve seen yet (The excellent quality of the videos may have a lot to do with that). I’m not really fond of FWIW on the CD, but this live version was great. I wish that she would sing Holy Toledo more at these appearances, since it’s become my favorite song on the album.

It’s one of my favorites as well, and Crystal has such a sweet way of singing it. It could do well on both formats. I know that many fans aren’t keen on Hold On, but I see the potential for radioplay for that song.

Another great performance live. Love to hear her live. Mine All Mine was set apart this time by an amazing bass line by Frankie. I always thought he needed to develop some consistency, but, maybe not. He was really really good.

  • Andy11

I hope they go with Mine All Mine as the single. She seems to be having most of her impact in country and I could see that doing well there. Also, Farmers Daughter is such a heavy song that it would be a good idea to follow it up with something lighter.

  • Nina1

Wow! She is just so good – and what excellent sound! With all the criticism of last season, it is too easy to forget the talent from it: Crystal is as good as and even better than most of the talent Idol has produced. She is just terrific!

  • revolution

If Jive wants to continue down the AAA path, Speak Now is the song that could take AAA by storm…just sayin…

  • Eriko

Wow, Crystal´s voice is totally back from that cold she had. To bad, Nashville didn´t hear her in good form.

I’m really getting curious what they’ll go with for a 2nd single – assuming they actually release one, which I’d think they would.

Wondering if songs she never or hardly ever performs, could be an indicator for the next single. Or is that irrelevant?

I’m not really fond of FWIW on the CD, but this live version was great.

I agree. I love her soulful side and think that´s where she shines the most, given the right songs. During Hollywood week, when she sang Natural Woman and If it makes you Happy, were IMO, the best I´ve heard during any such week in any season

  • bootslacrosse

    She sounds great here. TFP

She is sounding great going into a big weekend…Sunset Sessions could lead to AAA Ads.

Wondering if songs she never or hardly ever performs, could be an indicator for the next single. Or is that irrelevant?

Depends, while she could do acoustic of “Speak Now” the album version took it to another level, so she probably would rather have full band for that song.

Gina Orr tweeted few days ago: “… @crystalbowersox will be going to @1051_The_Buzz ..then a flight to San Diego”
“Sunset Sessions: It’s San Diego’s biggest music industry convention. It’ll be over 30 bands in 3 days. It’s the place where radio, music supervisors from film and tv, record companies, managers, publishers, and booking agents come together to discover the best new music of 2011. This year it’ll take place at the lovely La Costa Resort and Spa, February 17th – 19th.”

    I was at this mini-concert..

Wish could meet her…. I live in SD area…

  • CryBoFanO

Crystal tweets: “Swear heard Holy Toledo at the airport”

    Wow, that’s really cool!

  • JOJOSIE

I like Mason and Riding with the Radio for next singles as the both have that singalong quality and I think would do well in country, especially Mason. I gave my CD away so have to hurry and get a new one as I miss her in my car player everyday.

    Could it be “Speak Now”?

..Speak Now is the song that could take AAA by storm…

I love to witness “Crystal” storm!

  • turpen123

@CryBoFanO If you ever get a chance to go to a concert, go. If you get a chance to meet her, meet her. I cannot tell you how humble she is and what a personality she has. She is this tiny, tiny little thing with this great big voice and humble persona. Very engaging. All of her fans know what type of person she is and I do believe that if Gina Orr continues to work like she is, so will many more people. If you look at her sales, they always go up after appearances both national and local. I think Jive has clued into this fact. She mentioned that she is pretty booked out through the summer. Continued success to Crystal.

  • Lightspeed

If Jive wants to continue down the AAA path, Speak Now is the song that could take AAA by storm…just sayin…

I couldn’t agree with you more! And that has to be the best song on the album?

  • webdzine

Another quick tidbit I’ll add here after seeing her at the KINK performance in PDX, she does have a great repore with the audience. You don’t see that with the most of the video clips replayed on the web, and I had wondered what her stage presence would be like. Of course, with all her live experience I assumed it would be good. She is laid back, light, and playful with the audience. Her performances really come off as a personal experience. Impressive!!

  • CryBoFanO

@turpen123, Thanks, yes definitely I will. My daughter and I watched Crystal performing during AI live tour in San Diego last July. We really like to meet her personally. Our video collection started from her audition in Chicago thru her current performance in ‘kink radio’. Now she is here in my hometown. Wow. Hope so..
