The new music video from American Idol season 9 alum, Crystal Bowersox, debuts today on The Boot. The video, filmed in earthy tones, has a decidedly 70′s feel to it, as a band of friends help a young girl deal with her troubles.

“This song means more to me than even I can completely comprehend,” Crystal tells The Boot. “I feel like it’s one of those tunes where the meaning will get deeper and deeper over time as you start to really live and actualize the words into your existence. It’s about knowing in your heart, that not knowing the outcome is perfectly acceptable. Breathe. I’m still figuring it out, myself.”

Simple and lovely. I really appreciate when artists add narrative to videos, and Bowersox and her team have been very good at that.

    Is she releasing to Country?

I’ve been thinking for a while, how would be, how much chance she would have if she would be promoted to country format? AAA has only some hundreds of spins, HAC format is mostly half pop-half of alt music… She is such an earthy performer with earthy, lovely music, the video is perfect for her style… where it would be her “place” at radio formats? Hope she gets some radio-plays somewhere, Alt plays folk music but maybe her sound is more on the verge of country than rock to be part of their alt song-selection, I don’t know what to expect from what is played/heard at radio today…

Late but, I really like this! One of my favorites out of Crystal’s new songs (I haven’t had the chance to watch all the Joe’s Bar videos yet). Nice vibe to the video, simple but effective.

As far as airplay, I still see AAA as the best fit but tbh, not every kind of music has a home at any mainstream radio format. I would like country radio better if they had more folky songs like this but the main driving force at country radio right now is rock, with some beats starting to make their way in. Although, Mumford & Sons and The Lumineers are starting to chart so, things could change.

Thanks, windmills. I was thinking that she might have the same format support though where Alison Krauss is promoted, not a country singer but that special bluegrass music has a format and I think in country(?). I really like CB, even though I was more vocal for Lee and his way he was treated by TPTB after his drop, I didn’t care who is winning back then and I have/enjoy her music. I think if Javes would have promoted her to another format than AAA, which is very a small format I think, she might have been in another position by now as an artist, maybe closer to Casey James, touring constantly, opening for other artists than doing small gigs…just a thought.

This is kind of what I wanted to chat about, Windmills. Gotta work now, but I’ll find one of your posts and reply later, maybe tonight. I’m on the West Coast, so you might not see my post until tomorrow, lol.
