Wow, Crystal’s so great for sticking up for Tony, but no matter how she spins it, that’s pretty uncool of him to break up the morning of her finale. Like Kara said, though, it’s probably what gave her that extra level of fire & determination on Tues nite.

Well, she did admit to 2 crushes, on national television no less, over the past 4 weeks (Casey & Lee).

I am amazed how level headed and grounded she is for her age… heck, she’s pretty level headed for a person of any age. I hope the very best for her.

At least the guy had the gumption to break up with her when he could have easily been a hanger on / moocher. The timing does not seem to have been good, but certainly this was truly the best for all involved.

Wow. Way to pick your time buddy! Performance day? But really, it DID work in her favor. She gave the best performance I have seen her give.
You know what? I think that short clip totally endeared me to Kara. Her advice and her compassion was very sincere and pretty touching. She’s growing on me.

Wow. Joe Cocker called it. She IS an angel. She’s otherworldly for her grace and presence.

She really is an incredible person. She shows no rancor for anything. It bums me out when I read that Crystal “rubbed” someone the wrong way, or her teeth are bad, or Lee is SUCH a wonderful guy he deserved to win! Honestly? The problem everyone had with Crystal is that she’s a STRONG woman. That still doesn’t seem to go over very well.

She’s a lovely person. It’s probably for the best that they see this incompatibility now. The timing is not great though. Best to her in these upcoming months on tour and that she gets to record a full album.

Wow~ I feel so badly for her. I am guessing the boyfriend could not handle her fame and success. Or maybe he feared not getting enough attention. It will only get businer for her because she and Lee will soon be going on the talk show circuit post season and then rehearsing for the tour. They will then be gone for 3 months on tour.

She will be better off in the long run as anyone who breaks up with someone before a huge event is not worth it.

Geez. I almost teared up watching that interview. It’s obvious that Crystal has spent her life being “a tough cookie.” You could see the emotion bubbling beneath her cool demeanor. And both Ryan and Kara were so caring.

I had wondered why we did not see the boyfriend in the audience for the Finale episodes.

And it was in TV Guide when the contestants went to Vegas that one week that Crystal and him were supposed to get married but he chickened out. It seems that not only does Tony suffer from cold feet but he is not ready to get married. Crystal deserves better and someone who will be loyal to her and not insecure or jealous of her fame and the attention she is getting.

I wondered where he was last night. Crystal will be fine. She’s a strong woman. Who knows he may come to his senses and want her back but then the question will be will she take him back.

And I am guessing when the dust settles and the boyfriend is back home being the small town boy he wants to be; he will have regrets and end up being bored and want her back. And it would be poetic justice if Crystal says to him, ” Sorry Tony, too late, I have moved on”.

Well, sometimes when it starts like this, one just keeps choosing more people who will do it … Who knows if this is Crystal’s deal, of course. But I’d say better they broke it off now than six months from now, really. She could use the emotion to fuel her finale performances, as she clearly did, and won’t have to be fighting with him when she’s already dealing with the stress of touring — while being the mother of a young child while beginning to work on an album, etc.

I would guess that even for the silly, frothy entertainment reporters, knowing that this is a young mother who’s recently had some severe health scares and has just broken up with her boyfriend will make them back off this for a while, anyway, since it is a *serious* story that she carries with her, not really a titillating one. OF course, there are always the TMZ cameras ….

Breaking up with her on the biggest day of her life is beyond selfish. What a douche. The fact that she gave the performances of her life despite all that unnecessary drama shows her grit and determination. She is better than he is and better off without him. Good riddance.

Aw, that sucks :( . Couldn’t he have waited until after the finale?! I guess she starts a new life on a whole lot of levels after this show. She’ll be plenty busy with touring and getting her album together, but I hope she finds someone who will accept her for everything that she is, including her music and whatever celebrity she has. I think she’s a pretty special lady.

Seeing her obviously fresh wounds during that interview brings back old memories. As long as Kara is right there, she needs to get with her and start writing, right now while it’s still fresh.

The good news is that she isn’t going to be sitting home on a Friday night bored and sulking. Staying busy always helps and being busy making your dreams happen will probably help alot.

My heart goes out to Crystal. I have even more respect for her now, if that is even possible.

Very crappy thing to do and it could have completely sabotaged her. Thankfully, she is someone who channels adversity into something positive. It takes a special man who can deal with and be supportive of his mate’s success and career aspirations. Hopefully, Crystal will find one when the time is right for her.

2% up until last night. My guess is she started out way ahead, Lee caught up and then for the last weeks has been pwning her. So they added it all up, averaged it out and made it look close.

Notice they didn’t actually say last night’s vote was close, just like last year. That always means it was a blow-out.

Realistically, for their relationship to work, they would have had to have a very adult, long-term commitment planned.

They would have need to plan to be parents together to the child, and to a new city that is radically different from where they come from.

While Crystal passes through a very intense year long phase of Idol summer tour, making an album and rolling it out with further huge amounts of travel and media appearance, then, after very little breathing space, at least some touring in support of that record.

The guy would have to find himself a new job and a new social circle, all while Crystal was frequently on the road and surrounded by other committments. Many marriages would not survive that, and if they hadn’t reached the point of marriage, I can, unfortunately see most single 20 something men (or women) bailing at that point.

It’s not going to be an easy row for her.

She’s 24. She already has a child. If she doesn’t find somebody great to be with her long term by next year or the year after that, it’s not going to deprive her of anything important in life, seems to me.

She already has a very very important part of her family, her son. Someday hopefully she’ll find the right partner to go with that, but plenty of folks who never found the right partner are perfectly fine, too.

This way, she won’t be distracted by fighting with this guy as she faces the complications of getting her career off the ground. Obviously, they weren’t on the same page about some major things, and with her life being as complicated as it’s going to be now, that wouldn’t work in a couple and would only make her life that much more stressful. With her illness, continued stress over a dueling and dwindling relationship could be an actual physical danger to her.

They obviously got together when she was in a very different situation in life, and when your situation changes as drastically as hers is about to, it’s not unusual to lose people who see you against a very different backdrop and aren’t comfortable with your new one. At least they’ve been honest about the size of the change and his unwillingness to deal with it, rather than dragging things out.

And Crystal is still in shock, obviously. She tries so so hard to be positive, I really respectthat. But at some point, she’s gonna have to kiss the guy goodbye — and probably her old life too. Sad, but it’s true. The tour will certainly move things down the road. But it’s not easy to be a celebrity musician and have a really solid love and home life. LaKisha for instance surrendered the career for it, and Fantasia has wrestled with it too — among so many other women. But she’s young…..

When I saw what you’d said – and then I saw how you actually performed on Tuesday, I knew it. I just knew it. I really wish you and I could talk. Never would happen, but trust me. I get you. You are just plain incredible and that guy made the biggest mistake of his life. And not because you’re famous – but because of who you are as a person.

I agree. I think she did exactly the right thing by just putting the whole story out there in her own words. Why wait to be pecked to death by the prying ducks with video cameras?

And, for me, the fact that this problem happened now is pretty clear evidence that this guy was not the one for her, at all. He didn’t even wait to see how things unfolded before coming unglued about her new situation. That wasn’t going to end well, no matter what.

The only part about the Alanis/Crystal duet was the criss cross walking around the stage. Unnecessary and kind of dizzying. The vocals and the combo of their voices were great.

Crystal should have won, no doubt, but I sure do not see what others see in her. Even that video when she was 13 she seems hard as nails….I would hate to be stuck in a room with her for any amount of time. She is the kind of girl who would make me really uncomfortable if I were stuck having to spend any time trying to talk to her. I just do not like her, to me she lacks charm or warmth, and I can’t see any man flocking to hook up with her. Much as I hate what Tony did to Crystal (and I can TOTALLY relate to it from her side), I’ve got to say I understand his getting cold feet over the entire thing. He had to have been seeing all the attention and nastiness that surrounds these Idols and anyone in the public eye. This would have been a huge lifestyle change for him in more ways than one. Timing sucked big time, but it’s better he got out now.

It’s obvious that Crystal loves the guy and wants to remain friends. As someone who cares about Crystal, I’m not going to rag on him further.

I don’t see Crystal with Lee at all. He’s a boy (a very nice boy). She needs a mature guy. She has a kid, and a career now too….

In all fairness, she was. Although I think that so much that is said about Crystal is projection. Her “attitude” according to everyone around her was warm and positive.

And frankly, she seemed to be enjoying the experience a lot more than the guy next to her, who looked like he was going to toss it every night. Just sayin.’

Someone should point out to Crystal that Sandra Bullock found out that her husband has been cheating on her ( with a tatooed woman at that ) at this highest point of her life — After she won her OSCAR.

My opinion of, and respect for Crystal just jumped tremendously. You can’t take anything away from her. She took that pain and put it directly into those performances. No excuses. Just performance. Amazing, amazing, amazing.

Awww. Poor thing. That’s a horrible, horrible time to get that kind of news. But it’s probably why she sang so well on Tuesday, all that emotion got put into the songs.

(Slightly off topic, but I bet that’s why Cook’s The World I Know was so good. Crystal – hang in there!

Now that I think about it, I can’t remember ever seeing her smile on the show, although I’m sure I am wrong.

Crystal smiled on the show quite a bit actually. She got emotional sometimes, so clearly she has feelings.

I understand that some people get an “above it” or arrogant vibe from her, but I’m just not seeing it. She seems to take her artistry pretty seriously, and she sure seemed to put her whole self into every performance. I doubt she would have put forth so much effort if she thought she was so far above the show.

Even when she disagreed or openly debated a little with the judges, I thought she did so in a respectful manner. She was firm, but polite. From my perspective, I’d much rather see a young woman willing to defend her choices, than one trying so hard to make everyone like her that she feels she has to be agreeable all the time.

I think the former type of girl will have a much more fulfilling life with much more success.

In response to what some other posters wrote above, one thing that came across loud and clear is that she’s not an approval seeker. That can be a great strength, but perhaps is a liability on a show where you have to get people to vote for you. I personally admire her for it, but some people find it unnerving.

Even in that video from when she was 13, she showed strength, calmness, and self-confidence, with no desire to be cutesy or ingratiating (not what girls are usually taught to be).

At the same time, I’m guessing there are defense mechanisms involved, and you have to wonder what she went through to develop such a stoic attitude.

To be honest, I almost kinda saw this coming back in Elvis week. Why? Because I read something about her and Tony going with Mike and his wife to a chapel when they were going to renew their vows, and apparently Tony was really pretty nervous and balking at the idea of going. If he was the sort of guy who would be comfortable with the situation that he was going to be in with her, I think right then and there they would have gotten married, or at least officially engaged. I heard something about a “commitment ceremony.” WTF is that? I’m broke as hell but had I been Crystal’s boyfriend at that point, I would have snuck off somewhere, even Wal-mart and bought SOME kind of ring that day and proposed to her right there in Vegas. The guy had no intention of actually sticking around if he balked at that perfect opportunity, and at the perfect point to show his 100% support for her as her life was changing. It just wasn’t going to work, plain and simple.

Crystal should have won, no doubt, but I sure do not see what others see in her. Even that video when she was 13 she seems hard as nails….I would hate to be stuck in a room with her for any amount of time

I think it’s called maturity or being an old soul. Crystal has demonstrated graciousness and charm throughout the competition. I personally prefer to be “stuck in a room” with intelligent and gracious people like Crystal, but then I am invigorated by others’ positive qualities, rather than threatened.

Lol…for some reason, I don’t think that’ll ever happen…

The really weird thing though, that I’m still not sure about – I think I actually knew her. My dad swears that she took piano lessons from the same teacher that I took from, and there were recitals once a year. He says that we played on the same recital at least once. I’m 6 years older than her so when I would have known her, based on when she played piano, I would have been somewhere between like 12-15, because I thought I’d seen she took piano lessons from 6-9.

2% up until last night. My guess is she started out way ahead, Lee caught up and then for the last weeks has been pwning her. So they added it all up, averaged it out and made it look close.

She seems so much older than 24 – and I mean that in a good way. Very mature. I think this bodes well for her future. I’m so glad this show has given her an opportunity to make a better life for herself and her family.

Congratulations to Lee, I wish him well, but I wanted Crystal to win. I think she is an uniquely fresh artist, very spontaneous, witty, a better singer and performer and musician. Crystal is authenticly herself, trusts her own judgment and instincts and that is a rare and beautiful quality. Like Adam and his gutsy honest authentic self, Crystal is a great spirit.

Her dad said he’s going back to work on Monday. I’m sure she doesn’t want to go all those months without seeing the baby. As a mom, I really feel for her.

And here I stuck up for this guy on performance day saying he just seemed to be too great of a guy to do this. After I realized the rehearsal (which I thought was the problem), probably had happened later in the day though, I did begin to wonder. Then he wasn’t there on the final night or the finale and I wondered more. So sad. Ugh, I feel bad for her.

I have two pics of him holding little T from the homecoming. I won’t delete them though because I mainly took them for Little T and one he has his back to me, but LT’s face is just so precious and cute.

Now, I have to add that though I know this is very difficult and painful for Crystal that there almost seems to be a new ‘freedom’ about her. Sometimes conversations don’t end up where they started. It is possible Big Tony had not planned to leave her at that time . Maybe Crystal brought the converstaion to a place that day were all he could do was be honest and leave. Hard to judge someone without really knowing the circumstances.

I was sad to hear about the breakup, my mind immediately went to the Shania song & how she dedicated it to Big Tony and said something to the effect of “maybe he’ll man up someday, propose marriage”. Yipes, a total bummer. I guess the sooner you find out someone’s true colors the better. [Certainly not passing any judgement on the guy tho.] Like Crystal said, he couldn’t hang.

I actually thought Kara was more “human” in this interview than she’s seemed to come across elsewhere. People picking at her for misspeaking about when Crystal had performed and all – first of all, this video may have been recorded Wednesday night, 2nd of all, even if it was recorded Thursday morning – eh, big deal, Kara mixed up a Tuesday/yesterday thing. I can’t really say this with any sort of insight but I’m thinking that Kara may actually have a lot of respect and admiration for Crystal as an artist – and perhaps as a songwriter as well. Maybe she doesn’t show it that well but I really thought Kara didn’t mean to be patronizing. She seemed to be genuine in what she was saying, I thought.

Not trying to read anything into this…well ok, I am. I think people had said that this was probably weighing on her mind for a while – maybe there was a bit of a falling out after her “calling him out” on TV…perhaps even way back when they were in Vegas, and things were just not going well since that. The breakdown at the end of People Get Ready, her worst performance (IMO) of the season during the top 3 week with Come To My Window…it just all makes sense. Several times she said there were a lot of things on her mind, and she didn’t really elaborate much. She said in the video something to the effect of it being mutual, that it just wasn’t working, and that he couldn’t stick around any more. She might have gone to him the morning of the finale and said “look…I see how this isn’t working…if you don’t want this, then I don’t want you to feel like you have to stay a minute longer than you want to.” She seems pretty observant…I imagine she saw the writing on the wall – and I wouldn’t be surprised if she more or less initiated the talk that morning knowing that she couldn’t ever hold it together for the finale if she didn’t basically clear the air and say what they both knew. Regardless, she’s obviously strong. She couldn’t have possibly done any more than she did Tuesday night. This didn’t detract from her performances at all – if anything, it added to them…and it’s clear given the stress of the competition plus this turmoil in her personal life that she can handle pretty much anything that’ll get thrown at her in the course of her career.

Seriously though, if only I knew this girl in real life…yet I saw it printed somewhere she’ll be moving to Los Angeles anyways and there’s no way I could live some place without 4 distinct seasons.

And please, no, on the Crystal/Lee stuff. She’s so much more ambitious than he is and deserves more than that guy. If any of them from the show, have it be Casey. He could be an awesome lead guitar player for her too.

I couldn’t believe it. Arguably the biggest day of her life and he takes off? ON THE BIGGEST DAY OF HER LIFE? I don’t care what his reasons were, he should have stuck it out two more days. How can they ever get back together – he will always be the guy who wasn’t there for her at the finale.

This, and I still really figure that she probably more or less brought it up, knowing it was coming anyways. She probably didn’t want him sticking around for those next two days just to “do the right thing,” when she knew the right thing wasn’t for him to be there in the first place.

The real test of whether he’s still a decent guy or if he’s a total jerk (at least in the opinion of another guy) is whether when he heard the news that she didn’t win, he called, texted, or somehow communicated with her to say that he was still proud of her and that despite their differences and how it didn’t work out, that he would always support her. Because it doesn’t sound like it was one of those “I hate you, I never want to see your face again!” moments.

Damn. You know the people who have said that Crystal’s life would make a great movie? Is someone writing all of this down? Seriously.

Dang. Poor Crystal. What a crazy couple of days for her. She seems very grounded and mature, and it sounds like this may be for the best. But what lousy timing.

Though the breakup is sad and ill-timed, she’s better off not having to worry about him while she’s touring. I’m guessing her being on AI brought out the strains in their relationship and perhaps that was distracting her.
