    Yay for both of them!

The crowds for these are usually pretty good sized and enthusiastic. It’s a nice opportunity for Crystal and it’ll be Bucky’s 4th time playing the Riverfront stage. He played the Riverfront stage in 2007 and 2009, 2010, and now this year. In 2008 Bucky played the LP Field nightly concert at CMA Fest.

    Happy for Crystal and Bucky!

When will Crystal ever come to my neck of the woods? I would really love to see her. Please come somewhere in the DC area ASAP!

  • car3278sweet

I’m way happy for Crystal. That’s lovely that country is including her. Bucky? Meh. He’s always struck me as a bit of a goof. ;-)

Um… what about Casey James? What the heck is going on with him? Come on Casey Team!!!

Hehe, that’s what I was wondering! Suddenly, Crystal is some country starlet, and Casey is…. in limbo? He was my favorite last season, but now I’m wondering if things are petering out. Maybe the timing just isn’t right for him. I hope I’m wrong!

LOL. Sometimes it is darkest before dawn………

I’m sure Casey will be in the lineup; in fact, as a newbie artist getting rolled out I think he will be at the big stage- LP field playing with the big boys/girls.

Danny Gokey opened up the whole CMA fest last year on LP field (his dinky little management company managed to score that), so I’m pretty sure Casey’s management can finagle him a spot there. I will be more than shocked/upset if they don’t.

  • ri

Casey should at least have a single out by then so there is no reason for them not to include him. so…..come on CMA fest. just make the announcement already!

  • OvenMitt

Okay, I guess I don’t know how these types of shindigs operate. I would love for Casey to get a strong billing like that (and a performance slot on Idol, but we shall see!). I’ll be on the lookout for more news….

OVENMITT, i’ve missed you. (i can always count on you to give CaseyJ the love he deserves).

  • CD

I agree – I expect that Casey will be playing on LP Field. Last rumor I heard was that his single should be released mid-May, so the timing is right.

I’d rather see CaseyJ booked to play the Riverfront stage than LP Field.

Let me explain. A set at LP Field at CMA Fest is something you’re supposed to earn. Last year Chris Young headlined at the Riverfront stage despite having 2 #1 hits and being nominated for Top New Vocalist by the ACMs. This year you’ve got people like Jerrod Niemann who already has a #1 hit and an almost top 5 hit under his belt, Sunny Sweeney who just scored a top 10 hit, and Jake Owen who’s performed at LP Field in other years and has multiple top 5 hits under his belt at Riverfront. CaseyJ hasn’t earned a spot at LP Field yet (and Danny hadn’t either). Chris Young has worked his way up to LP Field this year.

This year the least accomplished LP Field act is the JaneDear Girls who have one top 20 hit. Maybe they’re trying to up the female representation at LP Field but if so then Sunny Sweeney deserved the spot more.

Idol gives you opportunities to jump the line but you have to be careful about when you do it because in the country world they remember stuff like this. Carrie got to jump the line by performing with Phil Vassar as a guest during his LP Field set right after she won AI and she jumped the line by performing a short version of JTTW at the CMA Awards. At the CMA Awards it worked out because she blew industry people away and she was already a huge story at CMA Fest so showing up as somebody’s special guest was seen as fine.

But Carrie was also doing stuff early in her career like turning down headliner $$/spots at festivals telling them that somebody who’d been around longer deserved them. She also did shows where she was advertised as the headliner but insisted on performing as the opener because she thought the person she was performing with deserved to be the headliner. In the industry people notice and remember that kind of stuff.

There probably isn’t that much to gain from playing LP Field at this stage anyway. You might pick up some fans but you’re also going to have lots of people disinterested because they don’t know your songs. ABC probably already knows who they’re planning on featuring on the CMA Fest special and that probably doesn’t include CaseyJ because they want to feature the stars and the big hits.

I’d rather see CaseyJ doing a small gig or 2 during CMA Fest and if possible a set at the Riverfront stage. I’m not saying it would be damaging for him if he got the chance to play LP Field but I’d rather see him commit to working his way up to that point.

Well Casey did just play at the ACM Awards two weeks ago, where his reception was good from all accounts. So it is not really like he has disappeared or anything. He is just busy in the studio right now.

All the acts hasn’t been announced yet.
    Will Sugarland be there?

  • Indigobunting

I don’t think most people will think there is “jumping of the line” if Casey plays LP.

It just seems like that is how they plan it. It seems like they feature some new acts at LP as openers, book veteran and lesser acts at the Riverfront and when you are big enough move you back to be later in the line up at LP.

Just like they do for concerts= Casey as opener, LBT middle act and Sugarland.

Sunny Sweeney definitely deserved the spot more than the JaneDear girls (blah), but I’m sure there are politics involved, as well as who is more exciting in concert and a crowd draw- Jane Dear Girls are a “hot” band.

ABC probably already knows who they’re planning on featuring on the CMA Fest special and that probably doesn’t include CaseyJ because they want to feature the stars and the big hits

I think Casey could get some camera time; Danny did on the CMA Fest special and he is no star or big hit. Sometimes they go for interest too.

Danny did on the CMA Fest special

I don’t believe Danny did get any television camera time on the CMA Fest special? Nor as far as I recall did any of the other newbies like Easton Corbin.

Danny was shown very very briefly on the ACM Awards show (like maybe two seconds, max, lol), when they did a high-speed montage of artists who had played the Fremont Street concert. And Danny got some nice online / media coverage from the CMA Fest participation, together with the event he did at the Country Hall of Fame that week signing for fans.

I think playing any of the events for CMA Fest is a nice thing, whether the daytime concerts or the big evening ones. There’s enough crossover of acts of different statures in each of those formats that I can’t imagine why a newbie act would feel insulted to be on the day-time agenda. I’m a bit bemused by the occasional Crystal pop-ins into country environments when she’s mostly been working the AAA/HAC circuit. But if they were able to get her into CMA Fest, good for her. Maybe they are trying to feature more female solo & group acts, that wouldn’t be a bad thing.

I wouldn’t compare any of these really to Carrie’s rollout or choices. Carrie came out of AI as the winner and had a whole other situation going on than the Casey or Danny as third-place finishers, or Crystal both with the genre ambiguity and as runner-up.

Much less Bucky, who’s still without a label, isn’t he? It’s good that these types of events aren’t closed to acts who find themselves in that position with the disruptions of the music scene. I don’t remember if Chuck Wicks re-signed with anyone, noticed he is on the list also.

If Casey gets a spot on LP Field, it will be a real coup—at least that’s how we, Danny’s fans, felt about his appearance last year! Great exposure, great photos and experience for Danny. 3rd placers don’t get the TV spots/promotions of the top two. (At least Danny didn’t–except Idol.)

I am confused on Casey’s roll out of music— it’s only a month and S10 will be over!

I know it’s hard it is to wait for our Idol’s music; I wish you all the patience it takes and that you stick with him.

oh i’ll be sticking! but thanks, Lucysfave. i appreciate the thought. it isn’t easy but i believe in him and to me there is no question he is worth the wait.

Perhaps I am thinking of the wrong special? It was called “The Road to the CMAs”- on ABC perhaps? They had a nice close up of him talking about how great the experience was.

Indigobunting: It just seems like that is how they plan it. It seems like they feature some new acts at LP as openers, book veteran and lesser acts at the Riverfront and when you are big enough move you back to be later in the line up at LP.

If you look at past lineups the new acts are usually ones with radio hits and who’ve worked their way up. That wasn’t the case with Danny last year obviously but that’s honestly not something I think should be continued. You’re right that other factors that shouldn’t come into play sometimes come into play. I still don’t understand how Chris Young wasn’t at LP Field last year but at least he’ll be there this year.

telemetry: All the acts hasn’t been announced yet.
    Will Sugarland be there?

Sugarland is playing LP Field Friday June 10th. The lineups are pretty full already but there’s usually a big name surprise performer or two and it’s possible there’ll be a few additions of short sets to LP Field or just newbies to sing the national anthem at the start of each night.

steph6449: I wouldn’t compare any of these really to Carrie’s rollout or choices.

The point wasn’t comparison, the point was that even Carrie had to deal with resentment for jumping the line thanks to AI and chose to forego some of the spotlight during her newbie period. It’s smart to show that you know your place.

steph6449: I don’t remember if Chuck Wicks re-signed with anyone, noticed he is on the list also.

He has a promo deal with CO5 which is still trying to keep Old School afloat. I don’t think there’s an album deal right now but I don’t know that for sure.

I think Casey’s single is supposed to (hopefully) be out sometime in May, and a big radio rollout in June. So I’m thinking that he will at least be scheduled for the CMA Fest daytime lineup. I know of some Casey fans planning on going to the event that would be pretty disappointed if he’s not!
