Creighton Fraker certainly has the possibility to put on some entertaining performances. I have heard he was one of the standouts in Hollywood. I think the key to his success will be to not let his voice get away from him, and also alternating between going all out and being restrained.

    Talented, and a total ham.

Can’t imagine what he’d sound like on helium.

  • http://twitter.com/IkeMendes Henrique Mendes

Sounds like Matt giraud a lot! And that’s not a bad thing, but I just don’t see him making it till the end… But hey, it’s way too early to guess, without knowing what is competition is

  • Anonymous

He’s Adam Lambert meets Paul McDonald. In other words, I’m already a fan! LOL

In all honestly, I feel he might be one of those contestants that might go pretty far but America will have trouble connecting with, leading to a shock elim.

But again, on voice alone, he’s the most interesting one I’ve heard so far on these previews.

  • Anonymous

I like him.  He’s interesting and fun.  I can see the Matt Giraud vibe there.

    Hell Yeah!

    Ummm, just no!

It will be interesting to have what appears to be a talented, flaming, out of the closet gay man on Idol post-Simon Cowell.  Simon always seemed to be the “gatekeeper” in keeping the “Broadway” singers out of the competition. (Anyone remember Simon looking askance at Adam L in the audition?)  But with Glee’s popularity, will it matter once America gets to vote?  Sadly, of course it will, Especially them red Republican states in this election year.

  • tomr

This year’s screamer????  Too many years seem to have one.  Get ready for our “ears to bleed” again.  Weren’t Seasons 8 and 10 enough?

  • Anonymous

This guy is more like Clint Gamboa from last year than Adam or James.

And don’t forget Season 9-there was Siobhan.

  • Anonymous

ugh….I couldn’t get past the first couple minutes of the first vid. I’d rather listen to fingernails across a chalkboard.

  • Leandro Cardim Da Silva

He remebers me, actually, that guy who was on X-Factor UK this year. The old one, effeminate, don’t remeber the name.

  • chessguy99

Johnny Robinson, which is the first thing I thought of when I first heard Creighton when I was researching the Top 42 spoilers. It was the From A Distance video I first viewed, and all I could think was all he needed was a shave and a dress. Total diva.

Again, another entertaining guy who is outside of the Idol mainstream. I think Nigel will get a girl winner with the guys that have been featured here thus far, and still have an engaging show.

  • Anonymous

I’m with you. Based on the other comments, I expected much better.

  • Anonymous

Ringo – Adam kept his orientation to himself during the entire run of Idol so I don’t feel he’s the example of a “flaming, out of the closet gay man” on Idol.  I’m not judging Adam for it, I’m just saying he’s not the example I would use.
Someone who talks openly about his sexuality to the media during the run of the show, or on the show, or is just completely open about it while he/she is competing, that’s more my idea of the type of person you mention.

Also wasn’t Brett Loewenstern (last season – post-Simon) gay? Maybe not, I’m not saying he is, I don’t know.

  • Hazehel

Frak me! I like him.  However, I don’t think he’d go far in this competition if he doesn’t get rid of his vocal mannerisms.  He has this rather affected way of singing almost every words, he should learn to sing and enunciate words more plainly, only let go a bit in the more dramatic part, it’ll be much more effective that way.

Also wasn’t Brett Loewenstern (last season – post-Simon) gay? Maybe not, I’m not saying he is, I don’t know.

Brett talked about being a green apple in a sea of red apples, and being picked on for being different, but he never flat out talked out his sexuality on the show.

  • Leandro Cardim Da Silva

He has no chances in American idol, but he would be a Star in X-Factor UK. There it’s almost a precondition…lol

I mean, I’m not being prejudiced, I just don’t see majority of americans voting for him.

  • tomr

You got two of the ones I was thinking of but don’t forget Jacob.

  • Tess

I personally don’t have any problem at all with effeminate men or masculine women whether homosexual or not…I always like the fact that someone is just who they are.  Guy reminds me a lot of a lot of guys who have played the small cabaret bars I have visited….and I always thought they were great fun and filled an evening.  Will he get far on idol…depends on how quirky he chooses to appear and who he gets to foil.  Its people like Creighton who make the show interesting and keep it from just being a “voice” contest and more about finding someone who can make it in the real world of music.  The guy may not be what pop is looking for but there are always wacky singers and eccentric personalities who make it far…maybe he can be one of them.

  • http://twitter.com/HaleysShindig HaleysShindig

Where is the thumbs down button? Don’t get this one at all.

  • Kesia Monteith

Me neither. Not a fan of his voice.

  • mchcat

Add me – not a fan of his voice either

  • GS61

    Is this a joke???
Because of Scotty’s exceptionally low voice last year, they picked someone in the complete opposite direction?
    He’s ridiculous.

  • Anonymous

I doubt that Scotty has anything to do with their decision to put him through.

  • Anonymous

OK, I like the guy.  :)   Wasn’t sure what to expect because the comments are all over the place.   I don’t know how far he will go on the show because he is not mainstream, but I think he could make the top 12.   I remember when Adam’s youtube of “what’s going on”.   Here it is below.   He sings pretty high as well in his verison.

This guy?  I don’t think so.  Way too over the top.

  • Anonymous

Not feeling him yet. However, it’s still early.Once he hits that stage, he could certainly change my mind.

  • GS61

    It was just a hunch.
He’s so ridiculous I thought they were going for the shock factor, like when Scotty first sang and that voice came out of such a young face.
Only difference: Scotty’s voice was pleasurable, this guy is painful!

  • Anonymous

Not really seeing anything ridiculous about him, though I can certainly see how he wouldn’t be everyone’s cup of tea.

  • GS61

He sounds like Tiny Tim on helium. I don’t know, to me that’s ridiculous.

Yeah, not seeing it. But too each their own.

  • jackie heyo

I think he is incredible! I love his voice in the first song.
He isn’t screaming like James, he is actually singing. and doing it WELL

  • Leandro Cardim Da Silva

Don’t compare him with James, plz. Screaming is ok in hard rock. This guy just go out with a totally nasal loud falsetto voice, like a duck. Going nasal is ok in hard rock/ heavy metal, like Axl Rose, Ozzy, Vince Neil…in jazz/soft/pop music it’s just ridiculous.

  • Anonymous

Johnny Robinson? I kinda see it and kinda hear it, but this guy seems overall a better singer. Johnny is probably this guy on helium.

His cover of What’s Up is…. interesting. I don’t know if that’s a good thing or a bad thing.

  • Anonymous

I think he should stick around just because of his name.  :)   Seriously, I’m surprised we haven’t had more frak jokes.  So far only Hazelhel.  :)

Anyway, like I said earlier, I like the guy, and I would like to see him go far enough to get the make over.    I think he’s got some talent.

  • http://twitter.com/lufflyness Jenna

He sounds like a mix between Paul and James… Don’t really like it.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_XJVNFJURNOCWYECDWBI6BDYP2I LeoR

i personally think hes amazing.  speaking matter of factly, his voice is effeminate, but thats not a bad thing.  i never understood how there arent more openly gay singers, i feel like the entertainment industry and the gay community goes hand in hand.
he has raw natural talent that can be honed in. plus, his first vid is at a karaoke bar, of course youre going to go over the top.

  • GS61

If this guy is considered a standout in Hollywood, I cringe to hear the ones who were supposedly worse singers. OMG!

  • http://twitter.com/tinawinabina Tinawina

He’d be fun to watch but his voice gets annoying after a white. Too much OTT screeching.

  • Anonymous

He’s got the talent.  It comes out of him easily and he plays with it like a well used toy.  The problem is his voice is gonna get on my nerves big time.  I hope he gets the shock boot because a full season of listening to him will drive me stock raving mad.

  • Ringo

Just thinking that even if Adam was not flaming or out of the closet in public, in the music industry (cabaret circuit) and inter-personally, some might have clued in on his sexual preference.  Hence Simon saying Adam was theatrical, and therefore not commercial during Adam’s audition.

I think that Adam was able to overcome the anti-gay stigma on Idol and my perception of Simon as the point man.  I think Adam was able to get past all that based on his extraordinary talent.

I could be completely wrong, but I can’t recall any openly gay male (or female) on Idol who made it to the final 12/13 (except, perhaps, Adam).  Lowenstein — not sure if open but didn’t make it to the top 13.  Clay didn’t even know he was gay yet!  ;)  Jacob Lusk last year — who knows (and ultimately, who really cares).

I also wonder whether Adam Levine’s rant on the issue last year will bode well for Creighton as the stalking horse for TPTB in saying we embrace gays too.

  • Anonymous

Just because the judges and producers think he was a “standout” don’t necessarily make it so, GS61

  • Anonymous

Wow, he’s bad. I had to turn it off after 10 seconds.
