Tony Award nominee Constantine Maroulis will reprise his performance in the national tour of the 1980s-set rock musical Rock of Ages, which will launch Sept. 21 in Chicago.

Maroulis earned a 2009 Best Actor Tony Award nomination for portraying Drew, an aspiring musician with pipes of steel in the Tony-nominated musical. He originated the role in the Off-Broadway production at New World Stages in 2008.

“I’m super excited to bring Rock of Ages across America,” Maroulis told Playbill.com. “I love touring and Drew has been a dream role for me.”

Constantine has gotten pretty good reviews for playing the show’s romantic lead. And apparently, if you’re an 80′s hair metal head, this is the show for you. It features music from all the usual suspects:  Journey, Styx, REO Speedwagon, Whitesnake and more.

    He is so gross.

I can totally see Siobhan Magnus having the same career path as Constantine.

She’s cut out either for Broadway Musicals or even a TV show like GLEE.

It’s probably no coincidence that both Siobhan and Constantine ended up as 6th placers.

This show is actually pretty cute and he’s very good in it. Deserved the Tony nom. Even if he was a bit of a douche at the stage door.

Why does everyone hate him? just wondering.

Ewww. Well, there’s one show I won’t be seeing LOL. He’s just skeevy.

Does Constatine even have many fans from his AI days? Most people I know seem to think he’s a douche

I hate to admit it but he’s actually really good in this role. He’s still a jackass but he’s a talented jackass.

What I’m really hoping for is for Ace and Diana to be cast in the national tour of “Hair.” It begins in October, shortly after their current run in the Broadway version is scheduled to end.

    Many reasons. Here’s one.

    Constantine Maroulis

    Age: 31

    Profession: Actor/singer

Known for: Getting voted out sixth place on season four of “American Idol.” Currently starring on “The Bold and the Beautiful.”

Memorable “entourage” moment: “There were many nights at Stereo last summer where it was crazy. I remember one night we left the pool hall, me, Jay, Jay’s friend Phil from Long Island and Cabrera. We passed this huge building site with big tin walls and aluminum fences, and Phil was acting crazy and doing his best “Jackass” impression, and he was running straight into an aluminum fence. It was insane. We were laughing and he was hurting himself. All of a sudden, this huge homeless man opens the fence door. This was his house, and Jay put his arm around the guy and started charming him, and the next thing you know the guy is hanging out, dancing with us, he’s doing stuff for money. It was hilarious.”

Real hilarious to get a homeless man to do stuff for money.

I asked that once on this site and got edited, shhhhhh! 8)
I’m going to make sure I get to one of the national tour performances as I not only will get to see the play but will also get to see the guy who helped make it a hit, Constantine. He probably would have won the Tony if not for the three Billy’s of Billy Elliott, they were a sure thing.

Frankly, I didn’t really follow the music (other than Journey) from this era, but I have wanted to see Rock of Ages ever since it debuted on Broadway just cuz it looks like a lot of fun.

Now if I am lucky enough to get to NYC this coming year I can spend my ticket money on American Idiot. I hear it’s getting raves! :)

Hair is a fun show, I saw it a long time ago, but back then it didn’t seem as fun as it does now mainly because we were still in the throes of the Vietnam War. Why or why didn’t we learn a thing?

Glad to see he is not coming to the Gulf Coast. I won’t have to leave town. We have enough concerns about oil on our shores without him adding any.

Just a point of clarification as an 80s teen…hair metal was the term for mid-late 80s hard rock bands, not bands like Journey, REO, Styx, Night Ranger, Foreigner, or any similar early 80s bands who lost their audiences (for the most part) by 1986-1988 to bands playing heavier rock/metal who used tons of Aqua Net and makeup.

I was a major Constantine fan when he was on Idol and I still remember how it felt when my chin hit the ground like a rock when he was eliminated so I am happy for his success. I am also interested in seeing Rock of Ages just because of what it is…sounds like a really fun show. Too bad for me, though. No Northern California dates on this tour. Booo!!!

Me. I’m a fan and I’m excited about this tour. I’ve watched every season since season 1. Although I’ve liked other Idols he’s the only one I’ve followed. He’s also the only idol I ever purchased music from except for recently. I downloaded two of Allison’s songs and I kind of dig some of the newer releases by the idols.

Constantine is very good in Rock of Ages. I saw it twice – once with C & once with a stand-in. Constantine was so much better. I loved him on Idol and am very glad for his Broadway success.

I never could understand all the “douche” and “creepy” comments. That story above (about the homeless man) has been quoted again & again and is from years ago.

Btw – Is Cabrera a douche too? I don’t recall seeing those comments about him.

Great news for Constantine!! He’s the only Idol to have been nominated for a Tony Award. I wish him the best.

We have enough concerns about oil on our shores without him adding any.

Seriously! He should be banned from the ocean because of his hair.

I think he has proven time and again that he deserves his reputation as a douche. Good luck to him on the tour, though. I have no desire to see it.

I was a fan of Constantine on Idol, first because he’s Greek (and I’m a little biased) and second because he chose to sing Bohemian Rhapsody on the show, and I don’t remember anyone else attempting Queen before that (maybe I’m wrong). A couple of years ago, I saw him at a Greek concert, with seats towards the back and mingling around just like everyone else. He was extremely polite to anyone who went up to him. At the after party, it was the same; even when the DJ announced him to the crowd, he remained pretty modest. Later, I saw him go up to a girl in a wheelchair and talk to her for a while; there were no cameras or people that he would want to impress by this action, not many people were paying attention, so I think that was pretty admirable.

Other than the story with the homeless man above, I really haven’t heard other evidence that makes him so disliked, so maybe my story isn’t indicative of his personality. Regardless, to be nominated for his role shows that he must have some talent, despite his so called creepy personality. I would go see him.

Constantine is awesome and I’m gonna go see him in Rock of Ages. Apparently he has a lot of fans as this show has been very successful and he is one of the main stars. Go Connie! Long live hair metal LOL!
