He REALLY deserved this. In fact I’ll go out on a limb and say he just might win too. I actually went just ordered tickets to see this again last night because I knew the nominations were coming out today and I knew they would do great. Tix will be hard to get now.

Thank you, mj, for not including his armpit pic in this post.

Congrats! Constantine and Rock of Ages

Hey, that’s pretty awesome. Congrats, Constantine!

  • Scamp

I went to see Constantine on Broadway in à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“The Wedding Singerà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ and then again in the off-Broadway play, à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Rock of Agesà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ . Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m planning on seeing à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Rock of Agesà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ again, now that ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s moved a few streets over to Broadway. The music is fabulous and so is Constantine. Constantine is utterly gorgeous in person. I got his autograph and spoke briefly to him at the stage door. Heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s a doll baby! This is very good news and I’m happy for Constantine. I doubt that Constantine will actually win the Tony, but he will forever be “Tony nominated” Constantine Maroulis and I’m very proud of him.

Adam Lambert for the win! : )

  • AmandaRae2512

Oh goody! Something else to feed his already incredibly large ego.

  • Niall

Now he’ll have a new line to use when he tries to pick up underage girls: “Hey baby, do ya know I was a Tony Award nominee? Yeah, it’s a big deal. Wanna go to my place?”

  • Miss Chaos

Wow! Congrats to Connie, he’s smarey that’s probably why hes so good in the show. I laughed so hard when I saw him on a cooking show a while back, and the Do you know the Lyric’s show about singing on TV. I didnt see Rock of Ages, but videos of parts of it. Regis Filbin went on the set last week and worked with Connie, and he seemed very nice to Regis. Good luck Connie I hope you win. You sure look the part.

  • background_noise

Not a Constantine fan, but, congrats to him. That’s a big accomplishment for anybody. That’s even a good pic of the guy.

And, hey, is that the same shirt Adam has worn on the show? Don’t Stop Believing group song, maybe?

  • http://myspace.com/susanatfox sumidol

Oh that is wonderful for him, he really did entertain during his time on Idol

  • unidentified

I hope other also ran folks see this and see that if you work hard at this business, they can get ahead on their own.

Congratulations to Constantine. You did good.

  • hypertwink

Too bad for him, he’s up against the kids (collectively nominated) from Billy Elliott. That’s 3 vs. 1, and they’re all phenomenally awesome that they’re probably going to win.

  • LK09

I think he is a creep, but congrats to him for being nominated.

  • AmandaRae2512

He honestly makes my stomach turn. Always has and always will. Never understood the “hotness” people saw in him.

  • SODF

Ever since I read this I’ve been checking my window to see if any pigs are, in fact, flying today. None so far, but the day is young.

    Congratulations, Connie.

  • nomi

This is terrific, not only for Constantine, but for the Idol machine. He’s a longshot for a win, I think, but a Tony nomination added to the other industry acheivements of the alumni pool is a good thing.

Wonder if Ryan will give a shout-out on the show tonight?

  • bambambam

Alright, honey, just get up on that stage and work it. Show those haters the Tony nom.

I think this is great !! Congratulations, Constantine. I am always proud of any of the Idol family who is getting recognition for their hard work.

Must be a slow year for new musicals on Broadway. ;-)

And, hey, is that the same shirt Adam has worn on the show? Donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t Stop Believing group song, maybe?

Looks similar, doesn’t it? Adam’s shirt, btw, was given to him by fans.

  • cay

That’s an amazing accomplishment. Congratulations. It is very good for Idol.

  • Victoria

Ugh, he creeps me out, but congrats to him, I guess. Like someone else said, it would look good for Idol.

And, no, I’m pretty sure that’s not the same shirt Adam wore. It does look similar, though.

  • brextra

    Edited. Goofed.

And, no, Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m pretty sure thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s not the same shirt Adam wore. It does look similar, though.

I just checked, and it looks the same to me. Link below.

You so did NOT go there. :laugh_tb:

Anyway, I really don’t have anything nice to say, so I won’t say anything else.

  • JKL

He’s still as slimy as ever :I

  • janerazor

If you look up ambivalence in the dictionary, you find a picture of this post.

I’m generally happy when any AI alum does well…but, ew, please. However, I do recall enjoying his “My Funny Valentine.” The Destiny Gods Of Former AI Contestants are making this an uncomfortable day for me today.

  • bjesgirl

Wow. This is a huge deal. This is the highest honor you can get as a stage actor. I actually like Constantine, even though he’s slimy, because at least he embraces it. I’m a big theatre fan, and always watch the tonys. I’ll definitely be watching out for him this year.

  • http://stores.ebay.com/BookWomanBlues-Book-Nook Bobbi

He’s not a performer I enjoy, but he deserves congratulations on the Tony nomination. He has worked hard and made a place for himself. Good for him!

  • LaRue

When I read this, I let out the loudest WTF?!? that I’ve ever spoken. This is a suprise, to say the least.

I’ll take everyone’s word for it and assume that Constantine’s good in his role. I wouldn’t be surprised by that–I think he’s a decent performer when he keeps the f*** me glances under control. But for the love of slime and grease, I can’t imagine this honor happening for a scummier Idol. Only Corey Clark snagging an Oscar nom for his inevitable role as Joe Gillis in the remake of the Paul Abdul-helmed Sunset Boulevard would make me feel dirtier.

So congrats are in order. I hope he bathes for the award ceremony. :/

  • cdvla313

I was totally WTFing while watching the nominations this morning. When you think about it, though, there really wasn’t anyone else to nominate for the last spot for Best Actor. Every other person who could have taken the spot either got worst reviews or their show closed months ago. That being said, I’m sorry, Constantine, but if you win over any of the other nominees, I’m going to punch something.

  • Sofa King

Way cool. Everything I saw or heard of or about the guy after his time on AI gave me the creepin’ heebie jeebies. But he sure did entertain me during most of his performances while he was on AI. Keep him on the Broadway stage where he belongs, entertaining the folks. Keep him off camera, away from interviews, and away from paparazzi and he’ll do much better. Good luck, Constantine. Here’s hoping you win this thing!

  • hapi

HE probably is a creep, but I honestly enjoyed him on idol and think he CAN sing and entertain.

  • karaokequeen

So other than the vibe he gives off, what has Constantine actually done that’s so slimy? I’m not baiting; I’m genuinely curious. I watched season 4 and remember not liking him at all – but I wasn’t following Idol on the Internets then, or his post-Idol career.

Congrats to him anyway, I guess. A Tony nom is no small feat.

^ Constantine’s reaction to being nominated is 6th from the bottom.

  • erinnthered

Glad to see God of Carnage doing so well on the play side of things, but yeah, it must be a very slow year for musicals. I am kinda surprised 9 to 5 didn’t have more nods, but then I never did read the reviews. Just heard a few good things about the LA run. Not really in to musicals much. Apparently Next to Normal is the favored winner.

Can we please just give Raà ºl Esparza a damn Tony already? This must be his year. There are lots of usual suspects among the nominees this year. It will be interesting to see how they fair.

I think that is Jessica “Spaced” Hynes in there for featured actress/ play. Very cool, but go Hallie Foote! Gotta love the home town girl. She’s very talented and sweet. Sorry her father (Horton) didn’t live to see this.

On the technical end, Howell Binkley is up again (he won for Jersey Boys) but I love his work, so I’m rooting for him.

…this should be about Constantine, huh? At least not all the nominees this year are as much of an asshat as he is. He does have a musical theatre degree, so I can’t speak to any animosity other actors are going to have towards his nod. They usually only gripe if it’s someone without an education. Given that, asshattiness has never been a deterrent in giving theatre awards as much as it can be in Hollywood. I still can’t imagine he’d be a fruntrunner. I’ve heard nothing good about that show. The nomination really is shocking to me.

He has sex with his groupies. How’s that for slimy?

I was a Con fan when he was on the show, but I regret that now. He’s probably my least favorite idol ever, beating McPhee, heh.

  • hypertwink

Can we please just give Raà ºl Esparza a damn Tony already?

Yes. He was robbed when David Hyde-Pierce won.

  • oceana

That’s exciting news! Congratulations to Constantine!

I was a huge fan when he was on the show, and later got turned off by his smarminess, but his talent is undeniable. He gave many exciting performances on Idol.

Sleeping with groupies, many celebrities do it, but it is creepy anyway. Esp several at a time, but that’s all I’ll say. On the other hand, the temptation must be substantial.
