I don’t know where you get these numbers from Kirsten, but you’re impressive with your gathering skills, lol.

I see two sellouts and with the exception of the Fresno show, the other numbers seem to be a good showing for S7. Does anyone know how much of the revenue actually goes to the Idols as payment?

  • CRB

Fresno is an armpit, they would have to pay me to go there. No offense if you happen to live there. It’s a great place to be FROM. :nono_tb:

If gas weren’t so expensive I’m sure more people around California would have made that drive into Fresno. The tickets prices really only bottomed out a few hours before showtime. I actually considered going to that show and the one in San Jose. Mapquest said five plus hours each way though, so that would be 10 hours driving. Too much.

I hope the east coast shows can hold up those numbers because they are pretty darn good.

  • fallforever

AInoob: As I understand it, the idols each get a set amount per concert. I have seen a figure of $10,000 per show for the winner, with considerably less for runnerup and even less for the lower-place kids. But I don’t have any cites for those numbers.

  • gingerly

Woohoo for Chicago!!! We so rock lol.

Does anyone know how much of the revenue actually goes to the Idols as payment?

There were rumors from previous tours, that the winner gets $10,000 per show, the runner up $9,000, so forth in descending order. I have no idea if those rumors have any merit to them, though.

If anyone has a reliable source, I’d also like to know.

  • AInoob

LOL, Rosemont loves them some Idols, looking at that link for last year’s halfway mark showed they were the highest percentage and grossing for S6.

Thanks for that info, fallforever and Jolene. My first reaction was that it didn’t sound like a lot of money. But then I did the math, I don’t recall the exact number of shows this year but when you figure it out, its not bad money for a few months out of your life, especially since none of them were making that kind of money this time last year lol.

  • CRB

Chicago rocks every year, I know that was one of the best crowds during Katharine’s year (AI5) too and not just in percentage of seats filled either, very responsive and loud and great videos too, so Chicago (area) rocks as a rule.

  • http://youtube.com/user/ConcertCameraCat Sparkles

I was at the Rosemont/Chicago show only because there wasn’t a concert in Milwaukee this year. I’m sure there were other Milwaukee area fans that made the trip as well.

  • sciencefan

I thought the Top Ten each received $100,000 for the Tour.

  • Joey507

The Allstate Arena sure looked like it was filled to capacity to me, this confirms it! The Idols rocked the house that night and the fans gave it right back. It was LOUD! I think I even remember reading that Jason Castro had even said that Chicago was the loudest crowd they’d seen at that point. I guess that’s what happens when every seat is filled.

The Idols put on a great show. I’m glad to see so many are going out to see them.

  • gingerly

Isn’t Green Bay closer? Or didn’t you want to wait. I was thinking about driving up there too…

Billboard Magazine regularly posts the data from concerts at their website, you might have to be a subscriber as I used to be……….and it is quite fascinating

Madonna made $11 million dollars in 2 concerts in Germany Summer of 2006, the venue was a 100,000 seater but she still must have charged an arm and leg………ka-ching

I hope the east coast shows can hold up those numbers because they are pretty darn good.

I suspect they will. The Northeast loves them some Idols whether they’ve got a contestant representing or not. Numbers in the Northeast–especially along the Northeast corridor–hold up reasonably well even in off years like Season 3 and Season 6.

I know you couldn’t get tickets from Ticketmaster for the Manchester show until they released tickets at the last minute. I expect that show to be a sellout, just like Rosemont.

  • wfowfowfo

I could have had 7th row floor to DC tonight — I checked at 2 p.m. today and there were some great tickets o be had — unfortuately I didn’t want to go alone.

Hopefully the numbers will be ok.

Last year I got really cheap seats in Chicago. Less than face value. It was fab! Not this year. I’m sooo not surprised that it was sold out. The crowd (from my vantage point) was loud and on its feat for everyone for at least one song.

Honestly, if Chicago loves the Idols so much, why do I not have a single local friend (other than a few semi-local friends who I have met here) who watches? LOL.

Some of those concerts in Europe and Asia are massive. Huge venues and expensive ticket prices really bring in the coin.

The biggest revenue earner for a single concert reported in this round was, wait for it:
    July 25: Hershey, Pa: Jonas Brothers: 29,130 of 29,130 (100%): $1,782,950

LOL. Those guys are taking over all media.

  • ShariG

I love the idols (well particularly David Cook) and was at Rosemont. I thought the crowd was great until after the show when apparently they were a little too pushy and rowdy. However, before the show there was a nice crowd for the buses in the heat and rain. During the show it was really great. The best seat I could get was on the floor in row 32. Not great seats, but it was a great show. I went to Indianapolis for better seats and an equally great show. PJ, I’ll be your local friend. LOL

Rosemont/Chicago is actually a bit closer. It’s about 1 1/2 hours from Milwaukee while Green Bay is about 2 hours. I’ll probably go to the Green Bay show too though since the concerts are a month and a half apart.

  • gingerly

Yeah, I’m going through withdrawals. As I recall, we didn’t get a Mavid dance in Chicago either. If we did, I didn’t see it. I was 5th row on the other side and was looking at Jason at that time :blush_tb:

  • http://youtube.com/user/ConcertCameraCat Sparkles

No, we didn’t get a Mavid dance in Chicago. Hopefully they keep doing them for the rest of the tour.

  • hicksaholic

Those attendence percentages are not very good are they? Or are the venues larger or are there more venues than some of the past seasons?

  • BigNLiddle

Hmm. well, in hartford, the whole back section was dead empty.

  • Kirsten

Or are the venues larger or are there more venues than some of the past seasons?

There are fewer venues this season than for the last two seasons. Venue size varies depending on the success of the tour. Venues are bigger than they were for Season 6, but smaller than they were for Season 5 (they change the number of tickets available). Of course, they don’t always go to the same cities either.

Those attendence percentages are not very good are they?

They are doing good. I don’t know what the break even for the tour is, but they are selling a lot more tickes than some other tours right now (this is a bad year for tours in general).

Here are some stats I published last year (need to update them, but no time right now so Season 3 and 4 are missing):
    Season 1: % Capacity: 82.2%
    Season 2: % Capacity: 89.33%
    Season 5: % Capacity: 96%
Season 6: % Capacity: 68.1% (at the 2/3rd mark of the tour)

  • 123abc456

They are doing pretty good so far, especially with the bad economic times this year. A lot of folks cannot afford the tickets, Gas to get there etc. It is worth the ticket, the show is great.

  • hicksaholic

I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t know what the break even for the tour is, but they are selling a lot more tickes than some other tours right now

They probably are beating other tours. I was really comparing them to past AI tours. I think there were like 1 and a half times as many votes in this year’s finale than the the highest year before now so it seemed to me like the tour would be by far the most well attended yet. I am sure the economy is partially to blame but I still expected the numbers to be higher based on the voting.

  • CRB

Well, hicksaholic, that really presumes that the “number of votes” corresponds in some way to the number of people that are actually casting them. The television ratings for the year, on average, were considerably softer than even AI6′s weakened draw and I seriously doubt that more people actually voted this year, if ratings numbers reported by ACNielsen are accurate, and surely they are.

The attendance for the Idols Live tour to date has been, in my opinion, awesome, considering how transparently scripted the David ² finale seemed from very early on. I don’t think all the “guys year” rhetoric was conducive to giving the show even a credible appearance of being “a competition”. The bottom line is that if the viewing public finds the cast interesting enough then they will turn out to see them perform, irrespective of gas prices or economic downturns.

I know you couldnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t get tickets from Ticketmaster for the Manchester show until they released tickets at the last minute.

What was the “last minute?” A couple of days before? I want to see the Providence show on Sept. 7th and hope they do the same thing. I don’t want to buy them through StubHub if I can avoid it.
