Colton Dixon returns to The Ellen Degeneres Show–he was a guest last year after he was eliminated just shy of the Top 24–to chat about his experience on Idol and sing a song.

Sister, Schyler, sitting in the audience, says she’s not sure if she’ll audition next year again, because the expereience was stressful for the whole family (mom was sitting next to her).

    I don’t think Colton has an amazing voice, but I really do think it’s unique enough to be recognizable on the radio. His musical sensibilities are terrific and I think he’ll do really well post-idol.

    I miss having something to look forward to on Wednesdays. Colton should still be on that show!  I can’t wait to see more from him.

    Nice segment, I’m really glad Colton switched it up and did Piano Man. Everything was great too but I’m glad he showcased his Piano Man here. I’m really looking forward to what’s next for him.

    Stupid question, have the other eliminated contestants done Ellen? I’m assuming yes but I honestly can’t remember.

    I think Schyler should try out again but maybe give it some space. She’s definitely young enough to wait a few years and I don’t think she needs to go back to back with her brother if she wants to be taken seriously for the finals.

    The contestants did it Season 5 (I think 4 too?), then 9 because ellen was a judge. But this year, Colton was the first (and probably only) until the winner is announced.

    Cool interview. Good things are coming Colton’s way. He may not have the best voice, but he’s definitely a talented performer and pianist. I am definitely anticipating what he has in store.

    I hope his sister will audition next year.

    Well, Schyler should not waste her time auditioning again next year. Lets face it. Colton is far more interesting a personality and a better singer than her. If she can’t be better than him then she does not stand a chance moving forward with AI. It is just similar to Michael Castro who’s Jason Castro’s brother.

    Thanks, I thought he could have been first this season but didn’t want to assume. Good for Colton getting the extra booking. Makes sense she would invite Elise too.

    This was my favorite Colton song….probably because the song itself is a favorite and his phrasing seems a perfect fit. If he puts out music like this, I will continue to be a fan. Just please don’t preach to me.

    I have been mulling over the contestants lately,and IMO Colton had one of the weaker voices of this strong voice bunch, but I think he is the most marketable by a good bit.  He has got the “it” factor which is just as important or even more important to success in the popular music business than fantastic chops.

    It was so good to hear Colton again! Maybe he doesn’t have the most powerful voice from that group, but he’s my favorite. I also miss his crinkly nose smile.
    I’m waiting to see what he does next.

    I have to agree that if Schyler decides to audition again she should wait a few years.  I just think that with Colton just having been on and getting as far as he did that there will be alot of comparison and if she makes top 24 I can already hear alot of people saying she only made it because she’s Colton’s sister. 

    I read an article online the other day called “3 Essential Elements of Music Marketabliity”.  The 3 elements are musical ability, songwriting and image.  The conclusion was that to be successful in the industry you have to know who you are, why you are that way how best to convey it and be willing to work hard.  I think Colton seems to have these elements so hopefully it will work for him.

    Hmmm, it’s probably a little too extreme to compare Schyler to Michael Castro. I think she has potential more than Michael…she just needs to hone her talents further.

    Take here for example.  She has a nice phrasing on her lower register, great choice of notes when deviating from the melody.  Her higher register, although not as powerful as her lower register, sometimes has a grit on it. Her performance however, leaves a lot to be desired though, sort of like blah. But she has potential, that much I can say.

    I love Colton’s piano arrangement of piano man which adds to the performance. So good that Ellen had him on.Its great that she wants Elise on as well as she’s the other one I like this year. Ellen has good taste in the idols she likes!!lol.

    I like his dressing style off the show better.  He’s a little less “poseur rawker” and more “contemporary star.”  Looking good!
