Thank you! Just shared the lyrics on Facebook. Heartfelt!

Well that was nice. I like how his name was  done for the cover very clever turning the t into a cross. Now his actual picture he looks kind of I stalk you when you sleep meets Derrrr what’s going on w/ a hedge hog curled up on his head guy.

I felt a little tear start to form  in my eyes. It’s a beautiful message and one of his best vocals.  I wonder what the music video will be like hmmm you know what this Lyric video kind of works. It’s like you’re going on a journey being sucked down a path w/ all these twists and turns to reach your ultimate goal that light in the distance, ooooohhhhh kind of deep right.

Anywho Good job Colton. I thought he was trying to plug his faith to get votes but he stuck w/ it and is producing that type of music so I can’t question his legitimacy.

I think Colton Dixon will do well.  For someone so young, he knows where he’s going and what he wants to do.  He’s in the right genre.  He has a big fan base.

Colton’s song is now #31 on the overall iTunes chart.

  • Nadine_Bitch

    I like it:)

I like it also it is catchy in that Christian music sort of way. I can imagine hands up to the heavens and people swaying.  Glad he found a nitch that he not only believes in but suits his talent.

My ears are in heaven! Colton and Taylor have new songs and Kelly Clarkson covered one of my favorite songs! W00t! :)

at #27 WOOT! Wonder if he is the highest charting Christian singer to break into the top 30 on Overall iTunes?

  • elliegrll

I think that he has a way to go to meet Mercy Me’s success.

  • b_james

This song is so much better than I expected.  I see bright things in this guy’s future.

I heard from a friend that will be there that Colton will also be performing for the Christian Festival Association in Nashville this week, which is huge.  The summer Christian festival circuit is one of the biggest ways to introduce your music to Christian audiences (after radio).

This isn’t really something that anybody keeps track of systematically.

If you’re looking for industry comparisons, the first big milestone is getting into the top 10 on the weekly BB “Bubbling Under” Chart. A decent number — but definitely not anywhere near the majority — of CCM singles accomplish this, so it’s a substantial accomplishment. (ETA: On reflection, I might even move the benchmark to top 20 on Bubbling Under.)

Next milestone is actually getting onto the BB Hot 100, which is rare. Mercy Me did it in 2001 (#71), but that was before iTunes.

The important thing for his target audience is the #1 spot on the iTunes Christian chart, as that’s what clues in potential CCM buyers that he exists and might be worth checking out.

  • girlygirltoo

nope, there have been other Christian artists to rank higher on iTunes, such as Chris Tomlin, MercyMe, TobyMac, etc.. And if you want to nitpick, LLWD was the #1 song on the Christian/gospel charts for weeks and weeks and weeks — although Kris isn’t a Christian artist.

But this is a nice start for Colton. He has a chance to have a really solid career in this genre.

  • idolbeat

Ok – just asking – anyway he is at #25 now.  It’s his first song – maybe I should rephrase that – a Christian music singer’s debut single targeted for Christian music?

  • durbesque

The lyric video is necessary for me, as his voice sounds so far away.  The hook is monotonous, rather than catchy, the same high notes over and over.  But when it comes to Jesus, the usual criteria don’t apply.  Colton is on his way.

  • Oldhag

I hope all the naysayers who said he was just pandering to the Jesus crowd now understand – this is what he wanted all along.

  • girlygirltoo

Just to show how difficult it can be for CCM artists to get on the mainstream BB Hot 100 chart, check out the BB peak positions for singles by Chris Tomlin, TobyMac and MercyMe.

I think that Colton comes off a little fake, but I wouldn’t say that he is pandering.  He’s doing what any smart artist would do, tailor himself, his image, his brand, etc. to his audience.  More idol alums should do this.

As I’ve said before, it doesn’t matter  if people in the AI bubble think that he’s fake, the only thing that matters is that his core audience believes him.

    double post

Colton started a CCM band when he was 15 years old. This is the type of music he has always done and always wanted to do, long before he ever tried out for American Idol. There is nothing fake about it.

  • Pippygirl

Good for Colton-I hope he does well. I liked a lot of what he did on Idol even though he made me a little uncomfortable with his religious talk. I just figured that was my problem, not his.
His recorded voice reminds me of another artist but I can’t place it and it’s bugging me. Oh well hopefully it’ll come to me :)

I love everything about this-the concept is interesting, not just how perfectly the words are
joined, so to speak, to the music; how the letters used to form the words are of the same
letter style, (font?) as you use in your printed name, with the beautifully accented “T”
stylized as a Cross; the tone of your voice, and especially the words. Beautiful, just
beautiful. Colton, clearly you are blessed, you are living your dream, how absolutely
wonderful. Most important, He is guiding you on your path. Just think for a moment, if
you had not accepted the encouragement from the season judges to audition a second
time, with your sister…..but, of course, the events occurred as they were destined to.
    With sincere affection,
