Colton Dixon was one of the cuts last year that everyone was upset with.  Would the producers do that to America again?

Colton has a very defined style, which helps on the show. His good looks would help him get votes, along with his angsty performing style. I’m not seeing a whole lot of versatility though, and I think he has limited range.

If he gets any momentum and winds up in the top tier, it will be Seasons 7, 8, 9 and 10 redux…. as far as I’m concerned – boring young white guy with guitar (surely he plays one) playing bland crap. Idol has lost millions of viewers in the last few years…. uhm, could be because of the sameness and blandness of the winners in the last few years.

You think he’s pop-punkish? I hadn’t heard that in him. To me he is like one of those teen boy “rockers” in those “bands” that show up on Disney or Nickelodeon. Which is not to say he can’t sing, but he’s sort of like a kid playing a rocker on TV for me.

I also feel like I’ve seen him a thousand times before. On Idol, Disney, etc.

Would the producers do that to America again?

Of course they would, they’re evil. But I really really hope they don’t.

Man, looking at you only I was hopping for some 30 Seconds to Mars, Hot Chelle Rae, Foster the People kind of, oh well!

Yeah, I agree that Colton’s type of “rock” is all over Disney and Nickelodeon.

He reminds me a little of Relient K and Fall Out Boy.  He doesn’t sing with pretty/gritty/raspy tone (like other Idol rockers), pushes his high notes (sounding a little whiny when he does it), and powers up his voice/sings in mostly one dynamic (that is: loud).  Maybe pop-punk isn’t his chosen style, but I think he sings in that way.

I love Colton Dixon and I was one of “those” who got very upset he was cut last year.  When I had thought he didn’t make it this year I was ready to NOT watch Idol.  (Yeah like THAT would happen, lol)  Then yesterday saw MJ twitter that he made it to the top 24 and my world was righted again.  LOL  Hey I know I don’t have a life and I am OK with that!

It has nothing to do with the winners. And last time I checked, Scotty and David Cook could not be more different, so its really just an idol bubble thing where people think Scotty and David are alike. And Idol has lost viewers because its an aging show and because of singing competition fatigue. It has nothing to do with the recent winners-Otherwise ratings would have been WAY down in S10 from S9. Scotty is a very popular winner. And someone’s favorite not winning isn’t the end of the world. If they like the runners up that much, then they will buy their albums and move on to the next season. Ratings were actually UP in S10.

And I don’t even think he plays guitar. He is a piano player.

Idk if anyone agrees with me but the reason I dug Colton last year was because he was angsty. Not everyone on Idol has to have a down-home aw-shucks personality (a la Scotty). He seems like he takes his music seriously & I think he has the potential to break out.

Sure, his 2012 audition didn’t blow anyone away but keep in mind he was kinda caught off guard. I’m optimistic about Colton. I think among the 2,500 white boys in the Top 24, he could be the one to surprise the most.

Oh I can see that! I get it now. Thanks.

“Colton Dixon was one of the cuts last year that everyone was upset with.  Would the producers do that to America again?”

They would do with their own children if they think it can raise the audience by 1%.

I just hope these spoilers about top24 are totally wrong.

I love singers who pour everything they have into a song.. Music is not only about hitting high notes.. people have to connect and feel to what you are singing.. EX. Kelly Clarkson, Christina Aguilera and Allison Iraheta.. listen to Carries “I know you wont and then listen to Kelly’s cover.. You’ll get what I’m trying to say..

  • Leandro Cardim Da Silva

I also like singers who put everything they have in a song. But some people don’t have too much, so put everything doesn’t mean nothing. LOL

I hope they’re wrong as well.  I was really looking forward to watching him this season.

  • tomr

So much better than Creighton or Heejun.  Hope he made it.

  • rocklet1

It sure does.. at least for some people.. I don’t want to listen to any robotic singer with a flat voice..

He seems a bit emo for my liking, but he does deserve to be there. I think he should lighten up a bit.

That’s a pretty interesting hairstyle, too. It almost doesn’t match his voice but it’s all cool and interesting.

His mannerisms and style when he’s singing remind me of Kris Allen – but I think Kris has a richer vocal tone.  I wouldn’t mind hearing more of this fella, but I’m not gonna be crushed if he’s not one of this year’s “chosen few”.

“I’m glad Colton made the Top 24 because I like his pop-punkish voice, which I don’t believe we’ve had on the show…”
Clayton don’t have a pop-punkish voice at all.

That guy on UK X-Factor , Frank Coccoza (or something like that) had a very good punkish tone. But he couldn’t be in tune to save his tattooed butt.

That song “What About Now” gets into my heart and soul. I just love his voice. The way he present himself in Ellen show was impressive. Presenting himself as a likable person is what drawn my interest on him not to mention that beautiful smile.

He’s a very good musician. Waiting for his performance on idol stage!
