Colton Dixon was one of the cuts last year that everyone was upset with.  Would the producers do that to America again?

Colton has a very defined style, which helps on the show. His good looks would help him get votes, along with his angsty performing style. I’m not seeing a whole lot of versatility though, and I think he has limited range.

I really do like this guy. I do agree that we need to see more versatility but I think he has some great potential and could be really marketable. The built in fan base should help unless he is overshadowed by some really strong guys.

I’m hoping he does well. A definite early favorite of mine going back to last year.

  • sdmama

Well, Scotty has very limited range IMHO. It didn’t hurt him a bit.

  • Anonymous

Mine too. The ability of a performer to make that angst touch you is what makes a successful musician.

When Casey James performed “Jealous Guy” and the judges said they felt it, is what I’m talking about. I think Colton has the ability to make people feel his music.

  • larc

Hope things go much better for Colton this year.  His cut in S10 looks even more ridiculous in hindsight.  Some of the guys who made it weren’t nearly as good.

  • Anonymous

ya colton definitly should of made it over some of the other guys last year imo.. just like hollie should of made it over that ta taynisa chick…

so i dont consider them season 10 rejects I just consider it righting some wrongs if they get put through this time..

His whole schtick makes my skin crawl and his voice is kind of lame. Which means he’ll probably win this thing because he appeals to Idol’s core voting block.

  • Anonymous

Is the Idol Pad reliable?  They released the Top 24.  The Dixons are not on it.

  • Nele621

    I just don’t think he’s very good.

  • Anonymous

Scotty’s range is bigger than people think.

  • http://twitter.com/tinawinabina Tinawina

I just don’t get this guy. He’s alright, but I don’t see all the greatness. **shrugs**

  • Anonymous

    severely overrated.

  • http://twitter.com/lufflyness Jenna

They’re reliable, it’s where MJ has been getting spoilers from. He misread the names, Colton is in and Clayton is actually out.

  • Anonymous

I don’t think the lack of versatility will be a big problem, I mean look at Scotty McCreery. I personally like his style, but I’m waiting to see how he performs on the live shows to decide if he’ll be one of my favs this season.

  • Anonymous

I’m glad Colton made ithe Top 24 because I like his pop-punkish voice, which I don’t believe we’ve had on the show (maybe my memory is failing me).

However, he has the perform well for me to consider him my favorite.

  • Anonymous

I think Colton will be overshadowed by Reed and Phillip and miss out on the top 13.

  • Anonymous

Yeah, that is definitely a possibility.  Plus, he’s likely to split the teen/tween votes with Deandre and Eben.

  • http://twitter.com/HaleysShindig HaleysShindig

He’ll do well, he has the Gokey voting block with his association with Saddleback. Every Megachurch in the country is going to be voting for him and I can see Rick Warren and those guys pimping the hell out of him.

  • Anonymous

I don’t get him either.  There’s nothing about him that screams “unique, special talent that I must pay attention to!”  Plus, I think he’s a little odd.

  • http://twitter.com/RKOBlackSwan Black Swan

It will be interesting to see who ends up advancing on viewers votes, who gets put in to a wildcard show and what the judges end up doing at that point.

I agree that Reed and Phillip are the most like him and so if they do indeed overshadow him, I don’t think the judges would be quick to wildcard him because they would probably look for some variety.

Even with all the youtube clips on the net of many of these guys, I still don’t feel comfortable even trying to predict who may or may not make it in at this point. Maybe after the top 24 official reveal (having seen Hollywood and everything), predictions could be a bit easier.

  • GS61

lol  the “schtick makes my skin crawl”!
I wouldn’t exactly go that far. His voice is kinda lame, though.
I don’t know, none of these spoilers so far have gotten me going WOW, I can’t wait to see them perform live!
I’m still holding out hope there’s someone to get exited about, or this may finally be the season I call it quits :(

  • Anonymous

Really glad he’s getting another shot this year.  I think he shows a lot of potential.  (And honestly, as long as he makes the top 13, he’ll be set for a career in Christian music, if nothing else.)

  • Anonymous

Thin voice, boring, uninteresting, same as a million other wanna-be young white MOR marginally talented boys.  Idol deserves this…. watch the ratings plummet.

  • Anonymous

I am not a fan of Colton or his music, but I’ll give him a chance…his style is at least different from P2 and Reed.

He kinda reminds me of Kris Allen in terms of talent (piano and singing), and Christian lifestyle (hopefully he’s no Jesus freak), but Kris seems to have more energy and personality. Maybe his personality got him cut last year. Colton seems so serious…maybe that’s why his music sounds so heavy. I wonder will he ever show an upbeat side. Just like Pia, he can have a moment with a good slow meaningful song, or he could be boring with too many meaningful slow songs.

One thing’s for sure, making it to the Top 13 and working weekly with producers will help him greatly. He brings something different but I hate how his words run together when he sings…but the mentoring should fix that. He will at least be a better artist if he doesn’t make it far.

  • Jes Merrill

Its not like he’s the only contestant. There are other contestants also. Why would one person make the ratings plummet?

  • http://twitter.com/RonnieDRocks Ronnie D

Not sure how to say this. He seems sort of “into” himself. The music is sappy bordering on cliche. Maybe it’s the songs, I dunno. Don’t really care for his style or vibe.

  • Anonymous

If he gets any momentum and winds up in the top tier, it will be Seasons 7, 8, 9 and 10 redux…. as far as I’m concerned – boring young white guy with guitar (surely he plays one) playing bland crap. Idol has lost millions of viewers in the last few years…. uhm, could be because of the sameness and blandness of the winners in the last few years.

  • http://twitter.com/tinawinabina Tinawina

You think he’s pop-punkish? I hadn’t heard that in him. To me he is like one of those teen boy “rockers” in those “bands” that show up on Disney or Nickelodeon. Which is not to say he can’t sing, but he’s sort of like a kid playing a rocker on TV for me.

I also feel like I’ve seen him a thousand times before. On Idol, Disney, etc.

  • Anonymous

Would the producers do that to America again?

Of course they would, they’re evil. But I really really hope they don’t.

  • iani

Man, looking at you only I was hopping for some 30 Seconds to Mars, Hot Chelle Rae, Foster the People kind of, oh well!

  • Anonymous

Yeah, I agree that Colton’s type of “rock” is all over Disney and Nickelodeon.

He reminds me a little of Relient K and Fall Out Boy.  He doesn’t sing with pretty/gritty/raspy tone (like other Idol rockers), pushes his high notes (sounding a little whiny when he does it), and powers up his voice/sings in mostly one dynamic (that is: loud).  Maybe pop-punk isn’t his chosen style, but I think he sings in that way.

  • http://twitter.com/Trishdish2001 Trish Martin

I love Colton Dixon and I was one of “those” who got very upset he was cut last year.  When I had thought he didn’t make it this year I was ready to NOT watch Idol.  (Yeah like THAT would happen, lol)  Then yesterday saw MJ twitter that he made it to the top 24 and my world was righted again.  LOL  Hey I know I don’t have a life and I am OK with that!

  • Jes Merrill

It has nothing to do with the winners. And last time I checked, Scotty and David Cook could not be more different, so its really just an idol bubble thing where people think Scotty and David are alike. And Idol has lost viewers because its an aging show and because of singing competition fatigue. It has nothing to do with the recent winners-Otherwise ratings would have been WAY down in S10 from S9. Scotty is a very popular winner. And someone’s favorite not winning isn’t the end of the world. If they like the runners up that much, then they will buy their albums and move on to the next season. Ratings were actually UP in S10.

And I don’t even think he plays guitar. He is a piano player.

  • Anonymous

Idk if anyone agrees with me but the reason I dug Colton last year was because he was angsty. Not everyone on Idol has to have a down-home aw-shucks personality (a la Scotty). He seems like he takes his music seriously & I think he has the potential to break out.

Sure, his 2012 audition didn’t blow anyone away but keep in mind he was kinda caught off guard. I’m optimistic about Colton. I think among the 2,500 white boys in the Top 24, he could be the one to surprise the most.

  • http://twitter.com/tinawinabina Tinawina

Oh I can see that! I get it now. Thanks.

  • Leandro Cardim Da Silva

“Colton Dixon was one of the cuts last year that everyone was upset with.  Would the producers do that to America again?”

They would do with their own children if they think it can raise the audience by 1%.

I just hope these spoilers about top24 are totally wrong.

  • rocklet1

I love singers who pour everything they have into a song.. Music is not only about hitting high notes.. people have to connect and feel to what you are singing.. EX. Kelly Clarkson, Christina Aguilera and Allison Iraheta.. listen to Carries “I know you wont and then listen to Kelly’s cover.. You’ll get what I’m trying to say..

  • Leandro Cardim Da Silva

I also like singers who put everything they have in a song. But some people don’t have too much, so put everything doesn’t mean nothing. LOL

  • Anonymous

I hope they’re wrong as well.  I was really looking forward to watching him this season.

  • tomr

So much better than Creighton or Heejun.  Hope he made it.

  • rocklet1

It sure does.. at least for some people.. I don’t want to listen to any robotic singer with a flat voice..

  • Anonymous

He seems a bit emo for my liking, but he does deserve to be there. I think he should lighten up a bit.

That’s a pretty interesting hairstyle, too. It almost doesn’t match his voice but it’s all cool and interesting.

  • Anonymous

His mannerisms and style when he’s singing remind me of Kris Allen – but I think Kris has a richer vocal tone.  I wouldn’t mind hearing more of this fella, but I’m not gonna be crushed if he’s not one of this year’s “chosen few”.

  • Leandro Cardim Da Silva

“I’m glad Colton made the Top 24 because I like his pop-punkish voice, which I don’t believe we’ve had on the show…”
Clayton don’t have a pop-punkish voice at all.

That guy on UK X-Factor , Frank Coccoza (or something like that) had a very good punkish tone. But he couldn’t be in tune to save his tattooed butt.

That song “What About Now” gets into my heart and soul. I just love his voice. The way he present himself in Ellen show was impressive. Presenting himself as a likable person is what drawn my interest on him not to mention that beautiful smile.

He’s a very good musician. Waiting for his performance on idol stage!
