Academy of Country Music Awards Announced: Carrie Underwood Nominated for Entertainer of The Year, Top Female Vocalist

Kellie Pickler, Julianne Hough and Jessica Simpson were on hand this morning to announce the nominees for The Academy of Country Music Awards, broadcast live on Good Morning America from the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville, TN.

Carrie Underwood was nominated for “Entertainer of the Year” with all the big boys–Kenny Chesney, Brad Paisley, George Strait and Keith Urban! Impressive. Congratulations Carrie…

Plus, Carrie is nominated for Top Female Vocalist, along with Miranda Lambert Heidi Newfield, Taylor Swift and Lee Ann Womack.   It’ll be interesting if the crown gets passed to the mega-album selling Taylor Swift this year.

Dancing with the Stars Julianne Hough is nominated in the Top New Female Vocalist category.   And Carrie Underwood’s video for “Just a Dream” was nominated as Video of the Year.

There are no Idol nominees in the Single Record, Song of the Year or Vocal Event categories.

The Academy of Country Music Awards air on ABC, Sunday, April 5, 8/7c pm.

    I really hope the “crown” is not passed on to Taylor Swift. Someone’s gotta remind the people behind the ACM that actual SINGING ability needs to be taken into account.

    Go Carrie — playing with the big boys. I don’t think she has a chance of winning the entertainer of the year category, but they only nominate true hardworking stars in this category.

    this is HUGE for Carrie, EOTY is usually the boys club so all her hard work playing 140 shows this year, really paid off!!!

    Since the award is “Female VOCALIST of the year” I hope that is remembered when the voters have to choose (Taylor is in no way, shape, or form even the 4th best vocalist in that category)

    Congrats to Carrie. Awesome. I want Carrie to win the big award, Entertainer of the Year. IMO, this is the grand daddy big prize. If there’s a choice, then give Taylor the best Female award, but give Carrie the Entertainer award. I’ll be fine with that. In the past, that’s what they’ve done with the men. Paisley/Urban would get the best male award, but then Chesney/Paisley would get the Entertainer award. If she gets both, that would be awesome. In any event, very much deserved. Go Carrie.

    MJ, when I first skimmed your summary I thought Jessica Simpson had been nominated. Hee! Turns out she was just ‘there’…hee!

    I’m really surprised at the Entertainer Of The Year nomination. WOW! I love Carrie, but it is way too soon in her career for her to win that kind of award and if she does, she will get major backlash for it. I hope someone besides Kenny Chesney wins though since he wins it all the time. I hope Keith Urban or Brad Paisley gets it.

    No way will Taylor get it over any of those ladys. I actually can’t believe she got in over Martina. Congrats to Carrie for a well deserved Entertainer nomination! She worked her ass off for it!

    Wow! That is a big deal in the country world. I would be very surprised to see her win it. But the nomination is still a huge honor. Congrats to Carrie!

    I’m surprised Taylor only got two nominations. I agree that she’s a terrible live singer, but bottom line is, the girl is a phenomenon in this flagging music industry and deserves some recognition by their peers. If the JoBros can get a Grammy nom, Taylor should get some CMA noms. Should she win? Probably not… maybe the video. I’ve actually seen both Carrie’s and Taylor’s videos, and I liked Taylor’s more. More concept-y, less melodramatic. I know it’s sad, but the black mascara’d crying in the wedding dress was a bit cheesy IMO. YMMV. Awesome that Carrie got an EOTY nom, but like Gingerly said, that’s historically such a boys club so I’d be really surprised if she gets it…

    im almost not as surprised that Taylor only got 2 noms….I think this may be the begining of country music seeing Taylor for what she is…. a POP star

    wow!!! Go Carrie!! EOTY is a huge award and to just be nominated is a huge honor. Anyone who contributes to any “backlash” should she win, needs only to look at how hard she has worked and what she’s done this year to even get that nomination. Who cares if it’s early in her career? Her fans certainly didn’t when they bought tix to see her at those concerts. If she meets whatever criteria the academy has, I see absolutely no reason for her not to win if she’s nominated.

    That being said, I remember reading an article a long time ago with her talking about this category and how she’d love to be nominated one day and how it’s been a “boys club” for so long. So my question is – does anyone know how long it’s been since a woman has been nominated for EOTY?

    Congrats to Carrie on her nominations for Entertainer Of The Year, Female Vocalist Of The Year, and Video Of The Year. They’re all very well deserved.

    I know she sells a lot of records but it seems wrong that Taylor Swift’s nominated as a female vocalist and Martina McBride’s not. IMO Carrie and Miranda Lambert both deserve Female Vocalist Of The Year more than Taylor Swift.

    thanks, tinydcfan. I actually saw that too after I actually took the time to look lol.

    Anyway, the MSNBC article I read on my lunch break (sorry, I can’t copy/paste from my phone) said that, starting last year, the EOTY award is one of a couple fan voted awards. In that case, I wouldn’t count Carrie out of the running just yet. If there’s anything AI fans know how to do, it’s vote (and spam online polls lol.).

    Jessica looked a tad uncomfortable for a second when Carrie’s name was mentioned and Kellie Pickler was clapping and excited for her to be in the Entertainer of the Year catagory.
