Clay Aiken – Preview of PBS Special, Tried & True – VIDEO

After the jump, check out clips from Clay Aiken’s first public television special, Tried & True, set to air on PBS stations this summer.

Shot at the Memorial Auditorium in Clay’s hometown, Raleigh, North Carolina, Tried & True features Clay performing standards from the 50′s and 60′s with a full orchestra and big band.

The special also features fellow Season 2 Idol alum, Ruben Studdard, and singer Linda Eder.

The concert will be the world premiere live performance of Clay’s upcoming album, Tried & True, set to be released on Decca, June 1.

Good news for Ruben and Clay fans–the duo will embark on a tour together, beginning on July 23rd in Asheville, NC.

I’ve seen Clay live in concert 4 times and videos don’t do his voice justice. I believe he’s in his element now with these types of songs. However, there was a song called, “The Radio,” or something like that which should’ve been the direction of one of his subsequent albums, because I believe it could’ve been a radio hit. It was pure pop, but, RCA never allowed it on the album.

I’ve also heard Ruben live and that guy can sang! The 2 of them together are dynamite!

I also think Clay will follow in Barry Manilow’s footsteps. He’ll be doing these types of songs probably the rest of his career. As long as he has an audience and people support him – nothing wrong wit that.

I think the Clay/Ruben concert is going to be two terrific singers having a blast singing what they love and giving their audience a night to remember.

I think this is wonderful! It is a great opportunity for Clay (and Ruben) to reach a new audience. Indeed, it is an honor to be featured on PBS. How nice this is to be opening the door for other Idols to follow. I wish Clay the best of luck with his album. As mentioned, Clay will be involved in fund-raising efforts. What a cool accomplishment.

I am not surprised at much of the negativeness towards Clay in many of the responses I’ve read.Ican only come to one conclusion.THE GREENEYED MONSTER HAS ONCE AGAIN REARED HIS UGLY HEAD. It’s a shame one can’t be happy for our fellowmen; instead we have to try & tear them down.BUT,do you think Clay is losing any sleep over it ? NO!!!!!!!!!The problem is yours,so deal with it ,before you develop ulcers .

Is it just me or has Clay’s voice lost a step there? On that opening song, his voice cracked badly and sounded thin. It just doesn’t have the fullness it once had.

I know what you mean. But the crack wasn’t too bad, maybe coz he tried to stretch the note for a long time. In fact he hasn’t sounded like this in ages. But I also think his voice is thinner than in AI2 days.

I just listened to the youtube of Clay. I’m not sure what others are hearing – but he sure sounds like the Clay of AI days – only richer. Must be the voice matureing.

I also think that Clay and Ruben touring together is genius – both talented guys and all funny.

Barry Manilow never sang songs like this, nor could he. His voice couldn’t handle it.
