With 80% of the votes in, American Idol season 2 alum, Clay Aiken lost his bid for a seat in the 2nd congressional district from North Carolina to incumbent Congresswoman Renee Ellmers, 59% to 41% (with 100% of the vote in).
R Renee Ellmers (i) W 121,336 59%
D Clay Aiken 84,826 41%
As predicted, Ellmers beat Clay handily.
“It’s time to put all of (the politics) aside. It’s time to work for the future of our country,” Ellmers told her supporters in Dunn late Tuesday. “Our best days are ahead of us.”
In another Idol-related race, Scott Brown (R), father of American Idol season 5 alum, Ayla Brown, lost his bid for a seat in the New Hampshire senate. ETA: Wow. Scott Brown mocks Ayla’s weight at a campaign stop. Read it at Jezebel.
Clay’s day got off to a rocky start when his campaign bus broke down shortly after he voted at the polls.
“The result didn’t go the way we wanted…but we energized voters around North Carolina,” said Clay in his concession speech.
“My voice will not be silenced, I will continue to use my platform to speak up for what I believe,” he said.
