ETA:Â   Statement from People Magazine:

We can confirm that Clay Aiken and his son are featured on the next issue of PEOPLE. For the complete story, please visit www.people.com at 7am tomorrow.

Not exactly a confirmation that Clay comes out in their pages…but why would they spoil the surprise?

Clay is scheduled for a two-part interview with Good Morning America on Thursday and Friday this week…

The Daily News says they’ve confirmed the story…So is the Associated Press

Clay Aiken comes out? Perez Hilton posted this mockup, swearing it’s for real. Apparently, Entertainment Tonight HAS confirmed it.

This story is developing…

  • cruzceleste

If it is real…then good for him… whis him the best!!!

  • http://absinthedreamers.blogspot.com/ Starrlight

    Seriously is *anyone* surprised?

  • Ladybug

    Well, duh!

Me still lovee the Clay, though.

  • Layla

Was there ever any doubt that he’s gay?

  • http://stores.ebay.com/BookWomanBlues-Book-Nook Bobbi

Good for Clay! I’m glad it was confirmed. The reason given on the cover certainly seems like a sufficient one for him to open up.

  • cruzceleste

    Seriously is *anyone* surprised?

Not really, but even when you are not in the spotlight is hard on people to come out, two of my friends from college did it, and it was really paintfull and difficult…

  • http://myspace.com/girlgeek mj

The baby looks just like him! LOL.

I’m glad that’s over with. Good for him. His life will become so much easier now.

  • Sarah

Yay for Clay! Closets are aren’t meant to be lived in. And much better to raise a child with honesty.

  • frogcooke

not surprised in the least lol. Good for him though lol

  • CRB

I saw this earlier and more power to him. Too bad that so many people feel compelled to hide their true selves for fear of ostracism.

  • abbysee

Not surprised in the least. Surprised that he finally freed himself. Go Clay!

  • http://myspace.com/girlgeek mj

    People Magazine confirms it…

  • nomi

Finally! He must be so relieved to be able to say it.

Somehow I felt that his involvement in theater would lead to getting real about whoever he is sexually. (is that stereotyped thinking? Maybe a little, but I think if there is a community supportive of coming out, that’s it.)

And the clayby is very cute.

  • ianamy

NO WAY! I am so in shock!

    lol, good for Clay!

  • ptslittlecomment

Nomi, it has been my experience in the theatre world that your sexual orientation just isn’t a big deal at all. Unlike the non show business world, you aren’t going to lose your job over it. The differences in life just make for good theatre ( on and off stage!)

  • idolfan86

    WOW.

  • http://stores.ebay.com/BookWomanBlues-Book-Nook Bobbi

I see they finally put up a statement on their site, mj, to come back at 7 tomorrow morning “for the full scoop.” LOL! I guess they decided it couldn’t be held any longer.

  • http://www.myspace.com/gwendolyndiane GwendolynD

Well, I hope the media stops hounding him now. Well…here’s to hoping.

  • jnd1221

Not a surprise, but good for him.

  • http://stores.ebay.com/BookWomanBlues-Book-Nook Bobbi

It just clicked – now his scheduled appearances on GMA this week make sense!

  • vagabond

What a great photo. Lots of love there. I like his hair that way. (LOL – that’s really the most important thing, how he is wearing the hair!) He really is a beautiful man with an amazing voice. I personally am proud he’s decided to make a statement. So many years of speculation that could have been avoided……but perhaps he was shielding his mom in the beginning…….who knows what his reasons were.

He can still sing, he’s even better live than recorded, puts on a fantastic concert – what’s not to like? I’ll still be a Clay fan, I’ll buy his CD’s, I’ll go see him if he tours.

Good for you Clay. Relax, enjoy your new run in Spamalot, and have fun with that baby.

  • http://myspace.com/girlgeek mj

It just clicked – now his scheduled appearances on GMA this week make sense!

YEP. And you’ll see GMA begin to promo those appearances now.

  • http://www.myspace.com/gwendolyndiane GwendolynD

That really is a cute baby….

  • AZIdolFan

finally he’s out! I’m a huge clay fan and people are always going “you know he’s gay, right?” and i always say the same thing, “i’m not going to marry the guy I just like the way he sings and he’s funny too.” so good for Clay and Parker is adorable.

  • sarcasticgirl

Well, duh. But good for him for coming out.

  • http://myspace.com/saltwatercures pj

Not a shocker. Good for Clay for finally coming out of the closet. I’m guessing some of the Claymates won’t like it (the ones who continually defend him against the so-called “ugly” rumors), but hopefully they will continue to support his talent…

Personally, his type of music does nothing for me, but I recognize that he can sing and wish him the best of luck.

  • KrazeeK120

    OMG I’M SHOCKED!!!! Oh wait….

Seriously, good for Clay. And that baby is adorable.

  • http://myspace.com/girlgeek mj

I’m shocked that he came out. I thought he never would, frankly.

  • http://www.myspace.com/gwendolyndiane GwendolynD

Seems like Clay’s always stealing somebody’s thunder! Dang it, Clay! It’s DavidCookDay!! :lol_wp:

  • Natasha

I’m glad Clay came out. Good for him. It’s no one’s business but his own but I guess the issue was out there and this puts it to rest. I think he’ll be a good Dad.

  • grrrr

I’ll second the “Well, duh!” comment.

Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m shocked that he came out. I thought he never would, frankly.

Me neither, I figured he’d just keep deflecting the topic forever. Good for him, though, not just for being true to himself or for the cute little Clayby but for getting rid of that horrible middle-aged frau hair he was sporting.

  • Duke

    NO WAY!!!!
    /joking

i personally dont think anyone cares. still probably the best male voice to ever come out of AI.
keep up the goodwork there buddy.

  • idolfan86

    Seems like Clayà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s always stealing somebodyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s thunder! Dang it, Clay! Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s DavidCookDay!! :lol_wp:

it is really weird that the baby news came out around the time dc released his first single and now this? coincidence much?

  • http://myspace.com/saltwatercures pj

but for getting rid of that horrible middle-aged frau hair he was sporting.

    :clap_tb:

    Indeed!

  • movin2thabeet

Well, I have to give him credit for finally coming out. It’s about time. It was crazy to hear his “supporters” condemn folks who simply had their eyes open. Even though Clay’s life will now have to face some inevitable backlash, all in all, society is gradually becoming more tolerant. I would guess that this admission is a much-needed relief and will free him to finally be able to express his true nature, in all it’s glory. You go, Clay!

  • Luv2Laugh

Hey AzIdolFan, I about fell over when I read your post. I always have to say the same thing when I tell people that I’m a fan of Clay.

  • http://kmantoniva.blogspot.com/ KristiVA

And the clayby is very cute.

    ROTFLMAO!!!!

  • snuffles

I’m pretty sure People magazine was forced to confirm it early because PerezHilton scooped them.

I personally don’t think it was his involvement in the theater that resulted in the decision. If that was the case, he would have come out during the first run of Spamalot.

I think it was his child and thinking about it’s future that was the turning point.

  • schmanda

Chalk up another in the “I am Jack’s Complete Lack of Surprise” column. I will confess, though, that I find myself more than a little sad for him that, for whatever reason (*cough*picturespastedonshoes*cough*), he felt he couldn’t be out lo these many years.

  • Keel

Is this confirm the obvious day? First, there’s LiLo confirming that she’s in a lesbian relationship with whatshername Samantha girl and then here’s Clay confirming he’s gay. What’s next? Bush confirming that global warming does in fact exist?

  • daisy

adorable baby and good for Clay. finally the rumors and the silly questions will stop. Living a life with honesty is always the best way to go

  • baxter

Keel- NOoooo…Bush finally admits that there weren’t any WMD’s..LOL

Anywho….good for Clay. He did it his way , whether he really wanted to or not. To come out or Not to come out….That has got to suck, but I always wonder, why does anyone really care??? How does any celebrities personal/private life effect me on a daily basis?? I hope Clay and baby are happy and healthy and are enjoying every new day ahead of them.

  • Autumn

    Duh………………..

  • cruzceleste

It seems ot really wasnà ±t taht big of a shot to everybody:

    link

Clay Aiken is finally confirming what many people already knew: He’s gay.

  • MaryS-NJ

Ee!! Just look at that little cutie-pie baby! Congrats for the proud papa! Oh, Clay’s gay? Wev.

  • ABritsWife

I love that response, I am not going to marry the guy…I just want to hear his music…and see him in concert.

    Parker is a doll.
Go CLay…now just make your music!

  • http://youtube.com/user/ConcertCameraCat Sparkles

What? I can’t believe that. Clay Aiken wears glasses? When did that happen? I don’t, however, think it warrants a People mag cover but what do I know. Cute puppy though.

  • skylight1219

Of course, he’s gay. He’s very happy to be a dad.

  • gingerly

It’s awesome he can be a dad with honesty. I’m happy for him that he finally let it all go. I’m sure it’s a huge relief in some respects. His music isn’t for me but I could never judge him for when he did (or didn’t) come out. I just honestly hope for a day when somebody could walk into Idol saying, “I’m gay” and win with it not being an issue. I doubt we will see that day in Idol’s lifetime.

  • soccerboi

The reason he didn’t come out before was because his fans were so protective of him…and clueless. It was always so funny to me the way the Claymates would rush to defend his hetero-ness. People always remember that if it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck…it’s gay. Take it from a duck.

  • IGetCranked

    That baby is freaking cute!

  • hapi

Just rewatched his Bridge Over Troubled Waters performance on AI….incredible. Carry on Clay. Cute kid!!!!

  • Suzanne

To make such a huge splash about this is just so . . . well . . . gay. (LOL)

I’m relieved for him. I think he probably felt like he would be letting down part of his fanbase. Now that he’s got a kid and an unconventional family, it was either hide more/deny the obvious, or just come out with it. I agree with MJ–his life is going to be way easier now. I’m actually a bit surprised that there are so many people interested in this tid bit that it warrants a two-parter interview on GMA and a People cover. There are so many entertainers who are gay–it’s just not that big a deal.

  • http://myspace.com/girlgeek mj

I just honestly hope for a day when somebody could walk into Idol saying, à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m gayà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ and win with it not being an issue. I doubt we will see that day in Idolà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s lifetime.

It just happened this year on Canadian Idol. Yep. Theo Tams made a couple subtle, yet pointed references to his sexual preference during the competition and then…it was time to move on to the singing. And then he won. Pretty awesome. Maybe it’ll happen in America some day.

  • Allison

Well I was a bit surprised, even though I was prepared. I thought he was asexual, like NY Magazine intimated.

  • elisad

    How shocking.

Good for him, but to think all these years…

  • mrcritic1980

In other news, George Lopez is Hispanic, Conan O’Brien is Irish, Mel Brooks is Jewish and the Pope is Catholic.

  • Grammie Kari

Oh my goodness, that is definitely Clay’s baby! No doubt about it. Wonder if he’ll have a beautiful voice like his Daddy?

  • sherryw

All I have to say is: It’s about damn time! Seriously, the world knew for (I don’t know, forever).
It baffles me that in the 21st century, there is still such a stigma attached to homosexuality that people feel the need to attempt to hide who they are.
Kudos to him for the public outing, although I don’t really think it was necessary.
LOL at mrcritic1980′s comment and Amen!

  • http://stores.ebay.com/BookWomanBlues-Book-Nook Bobbi

Here’s the link to the people.com story:

    http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20228488,00.html

Wow! He only came out to his mother four years ago! Maybe he had his own problems in dealing with this truth and that is part of the reason for the long delay in admitting it to the public. Either way, I’m happy for him that now he can be open about himself without fear.

  • jenniewdc

One of my closest friends is a gay man I’ve known since college. I’m glad Clay had the courage to come out publicly. Every gay person should wait to come out when he/she is ready, however long it takes. I think it must be a very hard thing to do. Yes, even in the 21st Century. And for some people it’s more difficult than for others. We’re all as different as we are alike.

I’ve always enjoyed Clay’s singing. I like many different types of music. And I agree with Duke’s post that Clay’s voice may be the best one produced yet by AI. (Certainly, one of the best.)

With a new son and starting another stint on Broadway, I hope the best is yet to be for Clay.

Have to add, as others have said, being gay really shouldn’t be an issue at all. It’s a personal matter, like being left- or right-handed. YAY for Canadian Idol, where it evidently wasn’t an issue. Hope AI will catch up.
