While I would prefer Idol alum to do better in the market, we should admit that this is the BOMB. Great song, great message, Chris alrd has a hit under his belt.

    Nice job, Chris!

I love everything about this video, so real, no glam, no glitz, great message.
How could anyone not like this guy?

oh, I can handle gazillian more times of iteration of this song. :)

I love the simplistic nature of the video and I think it was beautifully made and hits all the points perfectly!  Good job Chris and his team! Can’t believe how far he’s come.

The song debut at #1 on NEW ZEALAND singles chart this week! Congrats!

Nice video, I like it. I always liked the song, but I got sick of him singing it 100x during X factor. Anyway, I’m happy for him, he seems to be doing well, and congrats for the #1 in NZ.

I love this song and I love this guy. Rings authentic. He’s going to Do really well, especially with the best writers and the money behind him. I agree this is what idol is lacking. I didn’t watch x-factor that often, but I saw Chris’ audition and he was a favorite. He wasn’t the best singer, but in his genre of music it doesn’t matter. He will sell music. These singing competitions are not always about the best vocalist but what works on radio. Jimmy I. Said something about Jessica S. not wanting to be an opera singer from a singing competition. A singer needs to be vocally versatile. The big powerhouse vocalist doesn’t always fit the CHR niche. His biggest challenge will be staying clean. I wish all the best.

I could listen to this song all day, so yeah-bring it on!
I really love this video; it reflects the optimistic message of the song. An inspirational song and video with a cool vibe-what could be better?
Chris Rene has that something something that draws me in, makes me want to hear (and watch) him again and again.

I think we know who the actual winner of XF was!

Okay here are my thoughts At first I was like Young Homie again is this
the only song you can sing. I’m so tired of this I want something new. I
started thinking bad move you’re going to get pigeoned- holed as a one
hit wonder if this is all you sing.

Then I thought hmmm well it is a nice song -its cool and chill, very
inspiring, look how happy Chris looks, awww what a cutie. This is nice
but he’s gonna have to slam it w/ his second single to ensure people
don’t  to think Young Homie  was simply a lucky shot in the dark. But
good for him, I love it when people who try to change and improve their
    lives prosper.

I’m still more hyped to see what Astro comes out with though, how long is it gonna take. I hate waiting.

Oh one more thing is that kid in the orange jacket his son anybody know?

Haha! Which Idol alum, the Voice contestant or the X factor contestant for that matter could even come close to having their own VEVO music video just few months after the competition. Nope. Only Chris Rene. Yup he’s on his way.
I love the way the video focuses on normal, everyday people living life, skateboarding and passing on the peace message. These are the types of songs and videos we need more today in the music industry. Young Homie may have been the only thing that stuck on after the 1st season. And I do agree that out of all the singing competitions so far, X factor does give time and money to their proteges. Especially if you are under Simon or LA. Lol

  • http://twitter.com/RedBeanieGirl YMB

Yes, He’s Chris’s big son Elijah.

I truly like the concept of the video; simple and straight forward and tells the story of the song.  Its a feel good music video and it demonstrates you don’t need to have half naked gals to get the message across :)

He has so much on screen charisma. Still not totally sold on the song, but I think it’s only a matter of time until he finds his spot in the industry. I think he’s a star.

Wow.  I’m going to say I wasn’t a fan of Chris on the show and I got tired of hearing this song, but this video has completely changed my mind!  That is catchy, uplifting, current, beautiful!!  I’m impressed.

Most Idol alums are touring for a few months after the show and the first video they tend to do originates from songs recorded after the show is over, not ones they were singing throughout the competition and before.  Not really similar situations, to be honest.

  • Tess

Is this a rhetorical question ’cause an answer doesn’t put Chris in a real favorable light, IMO.  X-Factor DID NOT tour for 3 months, this is the same song (I understand) that Chris auditioned with, sang on the X-Factor, released as an X-Factor I-tunes, and is now releasing as a single…where as other singing shows have found “new” material for their proteges who are put under contract.  In fact with Idol’s working relationship with Universal they have gotten contracts for Scotty, Lauren, Haley, Pia.  Also, the top 11 Idolettes made money off of I-tune releases from the show, the Ford Videos, at least 50 grand from the tour and all 11 got some TV time on assorted and assundry talk shows.  From what I understand Stefano, James, Casey have recording contracts…and based what I have read over the last year most of the 11 have had some pretty good gigs to up their income level.

I just wouldn’t concur that Chris is doing better than most of season 10 AI finalists.  It will be interesting to see if he can self-pen another song that gets as much “interest” as this one has and can get his fans to buy something new instead of constant retreads.

This isn’t a first for Idol contestants. The Voice, I don’t know ’cause I haven’t kept up with them. I mean I get what you’re getting at, but the example doesn’t work in this case, I don’t believe. Personally, I prefer to let the music stand on its own merit. Hyperbole for me is an instant turn-off and it does in my case taint my opinion of an artist. I think if Chris continues in this direction, able to rap and handle the melody that’s a plus for him. A lot of rap artist need to collab on a lot of the songs because they can’t sing. The best part of many of the rap songs are the chorus for me, cause I love melody.

Best XFactor Makeover award goes to Chris Rene.  But I still can’t stand this song.

  • Anonymous

Yes, exactly the way I feel – it’s a sweet video – very nice.

  • Anonymous

That’s the “evil” of hearing a song live before it’s recorded but I think JR Rotem did an amazing job on it because he didn’t change the vibe. It still has Chris’ usual vibe and I think this is kind of in between the audition and the finale versions.

Listening to it online doesn’t do the song justice IMO. It’s the bomb when you hear it on radio. It sounds really really good! The first time I heard it on radio, I was suprised how amazingly different it sounded and it just hits you!

Listen to this clip from 1:28. That’s exactly how it sounds on radio.

Good song, hope this goes far, he is very likable

He is really talented! He is going to have a nice long career! :) This video is my favorite music video EVER! This song has a great message, too!

  • V Jemmy

Like the song.  Like the video.  Glad that they were able to do a real cut of the song and get it out there.  Such a positive message.

  • Anonymous

love it..  yeah Chris.    the coolest about this for me is he wrote this song, he made the music for this song.. and now look at him.  so glad for him.   and we all get to see his rise to fame..  maybe X Factor was not that great this first year here, But the moment Chris came on stage,  they knew they had a star and that makes a show like that all worth it..

What’s amazing is that this song that we have heard a few versions of, 10 million + views on Youtube, is still climbing up iTunes! Loved the video btw.

  • Anonymous

idk, it’s hard to not listen or watch Young Homie at not smile. They did a good job with it imo

  • iani

it’s hard to not listen or watch Young Homie at not smile.

Exactly, the video seems like little money was spent on it but the “unforced” massage, the smiles, the brightness and general vibe, all great, and looks  like 1M $ one only from those things; hope good things for him.  And that picture is like Chris with Mini-Chris in!

  • Anonymous

Yeah! you’re right. I’m shocked at the way it’s kept it’s position for all this while. After one week, it’s still up there with the biggies and that’s a good sign for the song. I expect it to move up when the video premieres on VH1 hopefully this weekend.

Jim Sheaerer had good things to say about the song when he intro’d him on BIG BUZZ MORNING yesterday. So far, reviews about the video are really good.

Chris is appearing at the XFACTOR AUDITIONS in Texas and will also perform ata Perez Hilton’s Birthday Charity event, alongside Far East Movement, Charice, Backstreet Boys and many others.

i like chris- the song was original – i wish him the best but i think they’ve squeezed every last drop out of this song – in my mind, he’s becoming a one-hit wonder…id like to hear some new music…we had the x factor version performed 3x and released on iTunes; we had a studio version released; now weeks later a video too…Im trippin on this song

  • Anonymous

Whew! YOUNG HOMIE got 9 adds today.

  • Anonymous

I love Chris’s video. They did a great job with it.  I really am hoping he does well.

  • ronnie

A one-hit wonder is still better than a no-hit wonder, I hope this song does amazing, no matter what does or doesn’t come afterward

I wasn’t a fan but good for him. This sounds great recorded. His video is very similar to homemade street videos that are all over you tube. That’s cool becuase he is keeping it in a light that represents who he is. You have to cheer for someone who is turning their life around.

Love it! And I heard this song on the radio this past weekend. So cool. I’m really happy for Chris.:) And I’m not sure why everyone is making it a big deal that this has been Chris’s money song. It’s great, catchy, authentic and written and composed by him. Any new artist would be thrilled to have a song like this that we might be jamming to all Summer.

How can you call him a one hit wonder? He just got signed and this is his first single.

Good song for this guy. Good message. Prayers that he continues to turn his life around and makes the most of the gift he has been given.

  • Anonymous

    “he’s becoming a one-hit wonder…”

Is that even possible? A one-hit wonder isn’t something you become. Lol. We really have to look back on his body of work once it’s all said and done. Just because Epic is squeezing as much as they can from the song, doesn’t mean he’s not capable of more…most good singer/song-writers are.

  • shamrock

I’m not really a Chris fan, but there is just something about him that makes me root for him and wish him success.

And the song and video fit him like a glove, actually not my prefered style of music either, but in the same time so catchy and up-beat and with a feel-good vibe that just makes me hum and clap along. I might get it from amazon.de when it’s released here on the 23rd. :)
