Oh Dear God. This can’t be true.  EOnline is reporting that Chris Brown and Rihanna are in talks to reunite on Idol. The two recently recorded feature parts on each other’s studio tracks. As if that weren’t controversial enough.

American Idol producers are in talks with Chris Brown and Rihanna about possibly performing together on the show this season, a source close to the situation exclusively tells E! News.

“They want Chris and Rihanna to reunite on the show,” the insider says. If they were to duet on Idol, it would be their first public appearance together (on purpose, at the same time), let alone their first live collaboration, since early 2009, when Brown was arrested for assaulting his then-girlfriend Rihanna.

Rihanna’s rep denies the rumor, but EOnline says that their source tells them, “Fox has not yet approved the pairing…the idea is still in the very early stages of discussion.”

C’mon. No way this is true. The outrage would have a negative impact on a show that’s already struggling. There are better ways to create controversy and buzz. Nigel Lythgoe can be infuriating, but he’s not an idiot, or tone deaf to pop culture.

American Idol is driven by one thing.  Ratings.  A Chris Brown/Rihanna rematch/reunion would be a ratings bonanza, bringing in tons of new/old viewers.  The few viewers that they lose will be dwarfed by the new viewers they gain/regain.  My personal opinion, I would only get behind this stunt if Rihanna ends their duet by kicking Chris in the nuts!  But I likely would continue to follow AI regardless.

I don’t want to see it. Period. Love Idol, hate even the thought of Rihanna and Chris together.

  • Chris

“Unless she brings a bat on stage and beats the crap out of him as part of the performance ….”

Well that’s the first thing about this pair that might be worth watching …. I’m not a violent person but he deserves a good kick in the pants.

For real???  I never followed him much but remember he danced pretty amazingly 5 or so years ago on some awards show.  Something about him I didn’t like though – and hitting Rhianna allowed me to put a finger on it.  Good information!!  Thanks!

Who is his present day manager/ment?

I’m also glad to hear about JayZ fed up with Rhianna.  Don’t follow her either.  Again, something about her I never liked.  There must be a fine line between wanting to help her and wanting to watch the door hit her in the ass, (I would think).

I don’t know who’s in charge of Chris Brown these days.  His label was JIVE records but JIVE folded and I don’t think any of the other Sony labels have officially taken him on yet.  Maybe RCA “inherited” him by default.

ETA: Apparently his manager is the woman it was alleged he was having an affair with. Which triggered the argument Rihanna and Chris had which resulted in the beat down. So there’s that…

Chris Brown is now with RCA, like most former Jive artists. Outcast went to Epic. And Avril Lavigne left RCA for Epic because she wanted to work with LA Reid again.

This is AI diluting its brand, jumping the shark. This reunion performance better fits XF US image, the show that makes 13-year-old girls melt onstage.

Both of these two needed a 3-5 year break from the record industry to recharge and mature. But seems the record industry is more interested in churning every last $ out of kids during ages 20-30 and then tossing them aside, rather than nurturing a long career or good mental health.

Those who wonder why young people are giving Chris Brown a second chance might look at why baby-boomers had been giving Charlie Sheen a pass for 20 years, granting him major tv success, despite a 20yr history of assaulting and battering gfs & wives sometimes with guns – you’ll find your answer there.

[FWIW I've been boycotting C Sheen for 20 years (last saw him in Platoon and Wall Street), been disgusted that the general public has supported his career all these years, and am flabbergasted that "tiger's blood" and "goddesses" led to his career downfall but domestic violence did not.]

This just HAS to be a rumor.

Otherwise, it will be Idol’s “jump the shark” moment, and I’m not ready for that.

Stupid idea if it’s true. Doesn’t Uncle Nigel know that the Idol viewers tend to be conservative and old. Nothing like the stink of desperation.

    lmao!  bat on stage.. hahaha

So is 2012, the year Idol finally jumps the shark?

This collaboration would be the lowest of lows for any industry.

It would be like watching Nancy Kerrigan ice skate with Tonya Harding at the Olympics.. just NOT done!  You don’t play nice with a violent offender… EVER!!  Especially one that doesn’t see anything wrong with his/her behavior.

I would absolutely boycott whatever show they are on.  I am so done with Rhianna if she truly gets back with CB.  Done. Won’t buy her music, will complain to the radio stations for playing her.  She is making the worse statement ever to abused women by her actions.

I don’t condone fighting and beating up on anyone, but people deserve to be giving a chance after a mistake, and he was 19 at the time – and Chris Brown has payed for it with the law, and even Rihanna has moved on and they’ve obviously put their differences aside, so I don’t have a problem with them performing on idol.  I actually look forward to it now that I know.

Chris Brown is very talented with a great voice, and I appreciate he made a strong come back after being down and won Grammy, and he made a lot collaborations with other artists too and he always makes the song better and upstage the artists.  I hope he can avoid future personality problems for his own good and career though.  Also, there are many artists from the past and even visual artists who had some personality problems and we still appreciate their paintings/work of arts today or music today.

Yeah, I’m okay with artists who are different or outside the box. I’m okay with those artists who have personality problems. I’m not okay with a man who tries to strangle his girlfriend. Beating the shit out of a woman is different than artists having personal problems.

If AI brings C & R on to perform, that will be an episode I will skip. It might just convince me to stop watching the show altogether. There are other singing contests I can watch in its place.

  • Tera2

There are artist who have even shot at people who still went on to have a career.   He’s was a teenager at the time and not in his right mind and intoxicated.  He hasnt been beating on other women after that and he’s been remorseful and apologized to anyone who will listen.   Its not right to hit people but he could have committed worse crime than that then I’d expect people not to forgive. Also, when Adam Lambert had his drunken distruption at a party for lady gaga, and recently went on to fight and hit someone while fighting his boyfriend at a club people were so ready to make excuses for him and forgive quickly and no one will say idol shouldn’t have him on for his disruptive mentality.  Who knows what Adam’s anger will cause in the future, but I’m sure people will be ready to forgive.  Anyway, if idol has Chris Brown and Rihanna on go right ahead and not watch it, but others will.

CB was 19, which is a legal adult. He beat his girlfriend’s face repeatedly with his fists and he strangled her. I wouldn’t support an artist who tried to shot their girlfriend/boyfriend either and I certainly wouldn’t expect American Idol to have the couple on their show singing together.

Adam didn’t hit another human being at Gaga’s party. There was no physical violence between Adam and his boyfriend in any way. What Chris Brown did to Rihanna is not remotely comparable to Adam’s fist going through a ceiling because he was standing on a chair and dancing. Surely you can see where beating your girlfriend’s face into a bloody mess and strangling her is something that is not comparable to knocking a hole in some sheetrock.

I don’t look for saints in the artists I follow. I don’t have issues with people having personal problems, but I don’t support artists who beat other human beings to a pulp.

I don’t need your permission to do what I feel convicted to do. I could care less if others watch the episode and never mentioned what others should or should not do. This is my personal choice and there are many who agree with me in this thread, so I’m not sure why you chose me to attack about my personal opinions and feelings on this matter.

I dunno.  I’d like to think the story’s a plant…….but money more often than not trumps morality of late.  It’s controversial, people like to look at train wrecks.  All that translates into mucho moola – at least in the short term.  I know won’t watch.  If Idol does it, they’ll hear about it from me – in unflattering terms.  And I wouldn’t be surprised if Idols ratings, though spiking for that one night, wouldn’t continue their downward slide – only perhaps a wee bit faster.

  • Niall

I don’t consider this story planted so much as leaked by someone who is horrified that AI is even considering this. And I do believe it’s under consideration (or was) as a result of their ratings slide. It would not be difficult for me to watch something else one night instead of AI. But sadly, others won’t feel the same way and they WILL get huge ratings if they do it. Huge. Maybe not the core AI audience but the casual audience and all of Chris and Rihanna’s nutty fans would definitely tune in.

  • musicality

Did you see Rihanna’s twitter feed. What a complete and utter pig she is.

She insulted a young female fans looks thereby setting all of Rihanna’s fans to cyber bully the young girl. Rihanna is totally gross. Go read her feed. @rihanna:disqus

Would you expect anything more from her, she’s a unruly, classless skank who has no self control and the morals of a common streetwalker. At the rate she’s going, she’s going to be another one of those entertainers who die young due to excess and people enabling her reckless and trashy behavior. The way she’s behaving, I wonder if she has a drug problem.

I don’t know who this says the most (and worst) about. To all of it, I say, BLECH!

I never read that chris brown was drunk. I did read the police account and he nearly killed Rihanna. He also has shown fits of anger that show his temper is not under control like on gma and last weekend stealing the phone. Read the account you might feel different
