Season 7 Idol, Chikezie, makes a trip to the fictional town of Port Charles on the long-running soap, General Hospital. His guest appearance aired today.

Chikezie plays a bartender who convinces his boss to allow him to take a crack at karaoke. Betting the boss $10 he can get the crowd going, he sings “Against All Odds”, and nobody throws tomatoes!

OMG! He sang one of the songs that has been butchered on AI too many times to remember. That song is a real Trojan horse.

And he does pretty good on it.

Small voice: Chikezie’s playing a bartender? I guess I’m not the only one who was reminded of Isaac from the Love Boat when Chikezie was on the show.

What’s Chikezie doing on General Hospital? Whatever it is, I wish him luck. I still think that his performance of “She’s a Woman” was one of the best and most suprsing performances of Season 7.

Thanks for putting this up – I really like Chikezie – and hope he gets more gigs like this.

    Check his tweets out here.

  • dhunken

He was ok. Always liked his personalty and Agree his She’s Always a Woman was fantastic but this for me (for you) was meh!…didn’t feel it dawg!…Little pitchy. Camera likes him though. He has stage presence.

  • Hazehel

I thought his performance surprisingly bad, too often not on pitch and seemed quite uncertain in his performance. He did much better on Idol, and that was live. Can’t they just do a few retakes here to get it right?

HOLY CRAP! I was watching GH today and saw him sing!!! that was Chickezie!!?! I didn’t even recognize him! All I thought was hey he is good! Oh I’m such an idiot!

  • tierbee

Awww, I really like Chikezie — good for him! Something about him, he’s just charming.

  • houstonrufus

Awwww, Chikezie!!! He’s an awesome guy. Minus the atrocious acting from the GH cast, I really enjoyed this. This isn’t really the kind of song that suits Chikezie, but “he worked it out.” Great to see him.

  • Pam

Very nice! It is indeed nice to not hear this song butchered for a change. LOL

Chikezie is an awesome guy in my book. :)

Chikezie’s's been so excited about this on twitter. It seems he’s a real General Hospital fanboy and when he was given a set tour a couple of months ago, one of the actors helped him get this part on the show. I think he did really well with his lines. Oh they wrote in a Simon Cowell mention from him in the first scene with Coleman (the main bartender at PC’s fave dive bar Jake’s). Guess they couldn’t resist.

I thought his performance surprisingly bad, too often not on pitch and seemed quite uncertain in his performance. He did much better on Idol, and that was live. Can’t they just do a few retakes here to get it right?

They don’t do multiple takes on GH at all. They block the scene and then they film. If the take is good enough, that’s all the chance the actors/performers get to get it right. They say one of the toughest, most demanding acting jobs in the industry.

It’s a bit pitchy, dawg, but not bad. Good for GH fanboy Chikezie. I always liked him, and he was awesome on American Nobody (shout out to JPL).

  • BootStar

I didn’t think he was pitchy, but I wasn’t crazy about his interpretation of the song. Still, it was supposed to be a karaoke performance, so all in all, I thought he did great. And I’m so happy for him. Very cool gig!

I still think that his performance of ‘She’s a Woman’ was one of the best and most suprsing performances of Season 7.

Agree 100%. I actually think it’s one of the best performances I’ve seen on the show in any season. Check it out if you’ve never seen it before.

Wow, that was entertaining. Chikeze was all like singing and the peeps were all like so deep in thought, thinking soap operay thoughts. And even though Chikeze was singing, actually begging them to “look at him now,” they were all like just sitting there, all gloomy and ignoring him. That one broad actually had her back to him. Would it kill ya to turn around and stop thinking about your own miserable life and enjoy Chikeze for a few minutes? How dare she diss an American Idol like that.

  • ozarka

It looks like he had an original arrangement all worked out, but they wanted him to sing it straight to better fit the storyline:

@Chikezie_Eze: Sorry bout the Karaokeish version I did… They said my arrangement was a lil too… “wild” for the scenario…

I thought he did great. Not pitchy at all.

Chikezie is a nice singer. If he hadn’t done that deadly r&b song,he would have gone further on ai.

  • CRB

Nobody does that song “straight” like Phil Collins at Live Aid but he did a-ight there I’d say. Chikezie definitely has some vocal chops but that song has been done to death.

  • Grammie Kari

    Nice job!

  • JosieX

I actually think it’s one of the best performances I’ve seen on the show in any season. Check it out if you’ve never seen it before.

Thank you for posting this link, Bootstar. I watched it, and that was absolutely delightful. I didn’t watch the show last year, so Chikezie is new to me. He is a charmer, and really good. I thought he did really well on his GH role. I watched the long version. I thought his slight tentativeness in the song was appropriate to the role he was playing. I really like this guy, I hope this leads to something else good for him.

  • gingerly

So happy that Chikezie got this gig. He’s a sweetie. I don’t like the song at all, but I think he did fine with it. I’d have to agree that She’s a Woman was one of the best in any season. Unfortunately (for him and us), not all of his song choices were that good.

  • sunchick

As a wise woman once said, bring it on home! I dug the way he wrapped it up. Nice to see that Chikezie landed a sweet gig. He’s talented and just adorable. And yeah, they should totally name his character Isaac.

  • PattyH

I love Chikezie! He was actually my second favorite in Season 7. I hope he gets to continue acting and singing!

  • lg

I love Chikezie. Wish he’d gotten to do the song like he wanted, but oh well…great exposure! Go Chikeze!

  • summersnow

That’s really a nice rendition! Really showcases the amazing vocal he has. I always felt that this guy got booted out too early in the show. Hope he will have a good singing career.

  • ptslittlecomment

I love Chikezie too! He was right up there with David Cook and Michael Johns in S7 for me. Had he stuck around , I think he would have easily overtaken MJ in my opinion. Hey, for me, he does now. Hope he gets a good gig and continues to make a living at all of this

Who died and made you Simon Cowell?” Hee. ;)
