Cassadee Pope To Release New Tune “You Hear A Song” on August 13th

Season 3 Voice champ Cassadee Pope announced via Twitter that she will release a new tune called “You Hear A Song” to Itunes 8/13.

Cassadee cowrote the tune with producer Nathan Chapman, and has been playing it on her radio tour. Whereas her current single “Wasting All These Tears” takes its cues from Kelly Clarkson’s pop smash “Behind These Hazel Eyes,” “You Hear A Song” is more reminiscent in melody and tempo of Kelly’s lilting pop waltz “Breakaway,” which was cowritten by Cassadee’s idol Avril Lavigne.

Is this a sign of a possible single switch or perhaps a test run for a future single? Cassadee’s current single “Wasting All These Tears” is kind of treading water in the mid-30s on the country airplay charts but has been picking up enough adds that it doesn’t seem logical to yank it just yet. Season 11 Idol champion Philip Phillips released “Where We Came From” to Amazon on 11/6, 2 weeks before the release of his debut album and while multi-platinum smash “Home” was still going strong on radio. He wouldn’t release his second single “Gone Gone Gone” until February 2012, but has now sent “Where We Came From” to AAA radio. “Wasting All These Tears” isn’t acting anything like the smash hit “Home” was when “Where We Came From” was released, but releasing “You Hear A Song” may be a good way of leveraging Cassadee’s fanbase and keeping them engaged with the process of buying her new original music.

The news of “You Hear A Song”‘s release comes on the heels of Cassadee revealing her album title, cover, and release date as well as the announcement of the premiere date for a docuseries on the making of her album that will air on CMT.
