Check out 30 second clips from Casey James’s self titled debut album due out 3/20, below!

Amazon has 30 second clips up from Casey James, the self titled debut album from season 9′s 3rd place finisher. The clips reveal the combination of Southern rock, blues, country, and pop that Casey James has been promising his fans, as well as Casey playing acoustic guitar, electric guitar, and even the dobro. Casey co-produced the album with Chris Lindsey, and the production sounds unfussy with a lot of acoustic moments.

The lead single from the album, “Let’s Don’t Call It A Night” currently sits at #25 on the Mediabase country chart and #27 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart in its 29th week there. With 5 adds picked up last week, the single is still growing and has a chance to become a t20 country hit.

“I dont think Lets dont call it night shows Casey’s voice of the most, but it properly depends on what you mean.”

You are probably more familiar with Casey’s vocals than I.  But recorded vocals and performance vocals are two different things, if only because there are so many more ways to tweak recorded vocals.

I’m kind of on the fence and maybe need to hear more full songs.

Truthfully, I really don’t know what to think yet.  But the sound on CaseyJ’s CD seems pretty consistent with the country album he said he would make when he first announced his plans.  So ? ? ?

Does anyone know if Windmills is planning to do a review of CaseyJ’s CD?  I would be interested to know what she/he thinks.  (My apologies, Windmill, I don’t know your sex!)

    I rarely
agree with Windmills, but she/he does know the country music scene
pretty well.  It would provide additional information to make an assessment.  (That is not to say if Windmills likes the CD, I wouldn’t, or vice versa.  For example, I agree with Windmills that “Colder Weather” by the Zac Brown Band did not get the recognition it deserved.)

Really can’t wait to hear the full version of all of these songs! The ones that I have heard him perform in the last year definitely sound more country and that makes sense since he is with a country label.  I’m not even a traditional country music fan, but I love Casey’s voice because he’s always got that bluesy undertone added to his country style, which I really enjoy!

I posted this comment in the wrong (older) Casey James thread — sorry for any repeats but I wanted the comments to go here.

I can hardly wait for March 20th. I’ve already preordered the album. Casey is one of those artists who is sooooo great performing live. We’ve (me and hubby) seen his twice. Its going to be interesting how his music translate to recorded (the album). Sounds like his album is going for his music which is more “radio friendly”.

Personally I don’t see how his bluesy side would translate into recorded music; hard to put “blues” in a box. That side of him is best savored in person because a lot of it is raw and “in the moment”.

So, if you love the bluesy gritty side of Casey, be sure and catch him live, he is touring all over the country, and at small venues with affordable prices this year so catch him while he’s still more accessible, money wise, because he is going to be huge. He’s the whole package (as they say on Idol — a lot LOL).

We will definitely go see him again live when he comes our way (my husband is a big fan of his as well).

But for me personally, I like artists for their vocal abilities, particularly voices that stand out enough that, if I heard a new song on the radio, I would instantly recognize the artist by his or her voice.  It was Casey’s voice that originally drew me in.  I think the latent vocal talent is there, but hasn’t yet been realized.I’m a little worried, though, that Casey’s passion and interest may lay more in guitar-playing than vocals.

I think Casey’s passion lies in doing both at the same time. His vocals has really improved a lot since being on idol, or perhaps he is just more comfortable with his vocal abilities. Over the past two years there have been a few times where I have been surprised by what Casey can do vocally but didn’t show before, and it continues to be so. I dont know if he has been getting vocal lessons or something.

But as you said recording is a different matter. It would be best if they can keep his vocals as raw as possible for recording. We’ll see, I hope full versions of the songs will be available soon.
