I cannot wait to download Casey Abram’s album on Tuesday. If you haven’t listened to the full stream of his album, you might want to do that, despite what happened at Citi Field last night before the Mets vs. Yankees game.

A singer planning to attempt the National Anthem can try to make it his own as long as:

1. He sings it in key
2. Doesn’t futz with the melody TOO much
3. Sings the words correctly. EXACTLY correctly.

I would say, Casey failed on all three counts. Not everyone is meant to sing the National Anthem.

Still love you Casey!

I hope he has success with his album.  One NA performance does not make a career.  Hang in there Casey. I wasn’t a huge fan of his on Idol (because I was way too worried about my fave), but he is a very talented guy and I hope he has a phenomenal music career.  Plus I like people who have little imperfect glitches here and there.

I just don’t think this whole whether or not an idol sings the NA well or not is a big deal.  Some people apparently do and that is where I say they are entitled to their opinion. I actually am not a huge and devoted Casey fan. I like him and enjoy his music but my point was with this whole Idol NA debate. lol My concern for Casey or any other Idol is the stigma that can be associated with being an Idol now. It is not considered very cool and hip with many and that to me is a bigger issue for them. Except apparently in county music. Casey should stay far away from singing the NA in public and he said he is on twitter. No harm done for him.

”Casey is a jazz musician and he gave a jazz version of the NA”

Sorry, but I’m a jazz fan, and there’s no way that can be used as an explanation for Casey’s very bad performance. As others have mentioned from instances on Idol, I really don’t think that Casey has an awareness of his vocal limitations, which is why he seemed to express surprise that his rendition sucked so much. lol

    Reminder

Gah. Telling a poster “you are entitled to your opinion” is condescending–just a passive aggressive way of saying “Your opinion sucks”.

That phrase and “to each his own” are very close to becoming bannable offenses.

I actually think everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I really could care less if anyone agrees with me or not. It is their right not to. I don’t think that everyone needs to agree. I think “we agree to disagree” is a good way to frame it too. I think it is condescending when someone it so critical and judgmental of others. That just bothers me. JMHO.
