Totally off topic, but I had to LOL at this. I had never seen one of these cakes before and for little spens’s 5th birthday I got what I thought was an awesome Barbie Mariposa cake (if you can identify the word Mariposa – trust me, I feel your pain). Little spens thought it was awesome too – UNTIL 2 weeks later she saw that damn barbie in a dress cake at another friend’s party and she was pissed. It comes with a real barbie ya’ll and the spens-mommy is lame.

So, that was my long-winded way of telling you Victoria, that I know EXACTLY what you mean.

Well dang. I forgot this was on tonight. I didn’t watch. However, I must comment on Carrie winning EOTY. Ya know, I listened to country almost exclusively from about mid 80s to about 2008-ish. I’ve seen Keith Urban live, although not any of the other nominees. I’ve heard Carrie sing but not been to a live show. I only own her first CD because someone gave me a copy. I’m going to see George Strait and Keith Urban this summer. (But I’m going to see David Cook first YAY!)

I just cannot fathom that Carrie Underwood is a bigger, better, more talented, better loved entertainer than Keith Urban. Or George Strait. Oh boy. The public got to vote on EOTY? Does the public vote on ALL the ACM awards? Wow. I can tell ya this – if I HAD voted, I would’ve voted for Keith Urban, no hesitation. He is AMAZING. I should’ve voted. Woulda coulda shoulda.

ETA: Miranda Lambert is so much more REAL than some other nominees. I shelled out the cash for her CDs. Haven’t seen her live though, darn it. To me, she is an artist – writer, player, singer who shares her self with us.

Kenny Chesney won last year. He hurts my ears. Never thought he deserved ACM or CMA EOTY as many times as he has in the past 5 years. I can’t stand his music. I like George Straight and Brad Paisley. Keith Urban bores me to tears. Carrie is an amazing entertainer. Sold out shows. She’s a power house. Am so glad she won and broke into this elitist and exclusive boys club. Totally deserved it. She, unlike Keith, has also crossed over. Go Carrie!

i have been to a couple of her concerts and she has definately progressed A LOT in showmanship since idol…she is tremendous live. Her voice is impeccable and it sounds the same in person as it does on tv and radio….and not to mention how great of a person she is…she is still very down to earth…it is great to know that american idol really produced a class act……i guess simon made a good prediction when he said that carrie will win american idol and sell the most albums..because more than likely, she will pass kelly in the future

I’m really happy for Carrie and Taylor. The guys have dominated country music for such a long time. The Dixie Chicks were the last women to win and that was almost a decade ago. It’s about time. I also think they both deserve it. Now, Julianne – that’s another story. I really don’t care for her voice, but the girl can dance.

I just have to get this off my chest about Taylor – she may not sing that well live but there’s so much to love about her anyway. Besides, she’s not the only artist who can’t sing live. I give her props for not lip syncing like so many others. She knows she is better in the studio but she doesn’t think it’s right to hide behind a studio recording. She’s a great girl who writes fantastic songs and she’s an incredible role model for girls in a vast sea of female artists who aren’t. Lastly, she’s very down to earth and doesn’t take herself too seriously. FWIW, her current album is one of my favorites. There isn’t a bad track on it. I’m not at all surprised that she’s sold more albums than anyone else this past year. It’s a very mature effort for someone so young.

I agree completely. I know Taylor can’t sing that well live but I still love her. I love her album and I love her songs. For me, she’s an exciting talent and I enjoy watching her grow. I know she’ll probably never win any top vocalist awards but I am glad she won album of the year.

Congratulations to Carrie! I don’t listen country music. I have only seen her sing when she shows up on Idol or another TV show I am watching. She does have a great voice.

Never done a study on Carrie’s fanbase. But how many people who are Idol fans are also Country music fans? There’s probably a lot of cross over. One of the marvelous thing about Carrie is that she never lost her core American Idol fanbase. They’ve been with her for 4 years now. She was a country singer on the show and post Idol, well, no surprise where she ended up. It’s not like there was any confusion that she was going Pop post Idol. In the four years post Idol, she also managed to pick up more fans and more importantly Country/Nashville industry and peer respect/cred. Through hard work. Idol fans didn’t nominate her for EOTY – her industry and the academy did. She also won female vocalist of the year. And I’m guessing that she still would have won.

SO SO happy for Carrie. She is incredible, I’m so happy for all of her success. I do like Taylor too, especially that album, so I think she deserved to win. Kenny Chesney was adorable hugging Carrie and her mom when she won, nice guy. Keith Urban is amazing, he may still be the best concert I’ve been to. Plus, he doesn’t suck to look at either

Yes Carrie headlined her own tour this year, she had Little Big Town with her.

I was never a country fan until Carrie came along (On AI). Since then I have discovered a few other artists, such as rascal flatts,martina,keith. Those are about the only ones I like.

Personally I think Taylor Swift is so one of the most over rated artists. I didn’t mind her winning album of the year (blah blah, she writes her own songs, blah blah blah, who cares). She sings horrible live, and her singing on the CD isn’t much better. To me she just does not have the vocals. She’s the country Miley Cyrus. speaking of Miley, wow she was horrible but no surprise there.

I was SO happy Carrie won Female artist. Taylor even knew it was Carrie that was gonna win, the guy said “and the winner is…” and Taylor mouthed “Carried Underwood”. Ha.

I was never a country music fan, but the funny thing is, Kellie, Carrie, and Taylor have made me start listening to country. Also I like Jewel and julianne, and I guess I like some of the crossover country now.

I must be in the minority on this board but I like Taylor’s singing, I like her voice and the way she interprets her songs. But then I was always a Bob Dylan fan, so what do I know? There’s more than one way to sing, not everyone has to have a wide range or belt out songs. There’s more to singing than that, there’s interpretation. Sure Taylor won’t ever win a vocalist award, but so the heck what? She doesn’t have to win everything. She sold more than any other artist last year in any genre, that is pretty damn amazing.

Awww oceana, I like Dylan too! I haven’t listened to an entire TS album, but I do like that she writes her own material. And has the gumption to sing it herself too, even though she’s no Carrie Underwood. I just don’t relate to her songs at this moment in my life. And I hear them SO much, they have become annoying to me. She’s not a HORRIBLE singer, just not a Carrie Underwood technical singer. As always, YMMV…just blurting out my opinions…still…on this thread! haha.

I’m a huge fan of both Taylor and Carrie. I was abit shocked when Swift won album of the year but then I had to think that the Academy is somewhat swayed by the numbers and Taylor has crossed over and is #1 on the charts and has been for like 19 weeks now!!! Wow. I do agree that Taylor would not have been deserving of Top Female Vocalist, she is very green. I had followed many of her live perfomances on TV the past 2 years – umm, she has improved but not by much. And I think stage presence goes a long way. I did become a fan last summer when I saw her (Taylor) at the CMA Fest (one of the best weeks of my life, everyone should go visit Nashville). She definitely puts on a show, I can say that much.

But of course Carrie Underwood gives me goosebumps everytime she sings. I think Carrie will have more staying power in the country industry, I hope. Carrie I think should have thanked everyone she’s toured with Brad, Kenny, Keith, Rascal Flatts for showing her how to put on a show, becuase the boys mentioned above have been some of the best concerts I’ve ever been to. But I’m sure she’s grateful for the experience she’s gotten. Loooove her!!!!

Wow…there are some seriously delusional people……..people who think someone who wins a half-assed reality show somehow have entitlement to awards over people who’ve spent their entire lives out there EARNING these awards. People who’ve won many more awards than these flash in the pan “artists” will ever win.

Besides, let’s not loose track of the fact that these are the ACM awards and not the much more prestigeous CMA awards.

Country music artists are happy for all that win acclaim…

Carrie will be long forgotten and these people will still be out there making their music.

I’m sure I’m in the minority in this opinion, but I’m very, very surprised that Julianne won the Best New Artist award. I just cannot get into her as a country music artist. I don’t think she has that great a voice. I’d prefer she stick to dancing. I’m presuming that’s where a lot of her fanbase is coming from that gave her the edge.

Congratulations to Carrie. I wasn’t a big fan of hers when she appeared on Idol, but I’m glad Simon’s prediction about her was dead on!

I remember during her season she had many people saying “She is sooo boring and bland”, but Carrie won and now look at her. She proved all those critics wrong and I am glad for her.
