The 2 biggest females of today’s country are set to come together for their 1st studio collaboration! Season 6 Team Shakira Voice mentor and ACM/CMA darling Miranda Lambert unleashed a mini-storm of publicity this morning when she announced details for her upcoming 5th studio album, Platinum, due out June 3rd. She also confirmed some new tracks in a new interview with the Associated Press, including a collaboration with superstar, birthday girl, & Season 4 Idol champ Carrie Underwood!

The collaboration with Carrie Underwood on “Something Bad” brings together two of country’s most popular stars.

“We’re really rocking in country music and we’re coming together as a force,” Lambert said. “To me, like, if you’re sitting on the front row, you might want to scoot back. It’s a force. It just feels exciting to me. I’m ready to rock.”

“Something Bad” is 1 of the 8 outside cuts on Automatic – it’s cowritten by “Good Girl” cowriter Chris Destefano, “Jesus Take The Wheel” and “Cowboy Casanova” cowriter Brett James, and pop/dance/R&B singer/songwriter Priscilla Renea (who cowrote Rihanna’s “California King Bed”). Both the Associated Press interview and this Rolling Stone blurb tease the 16-track Platinum as Miranda’s most wide-ranging album yet, with everything from a Tom T. Hall/Dixie Hall cover to rockers like “Something Bad” to introspective songs like “Priscilla” to pop tunes like the title track. Carrie and Miranda are friends and have previously sung together a few times, including a mashup of their respective hits “Before He Cheats” and “Gunpowder & Lead” and their 2010 ACM-opening performance of Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Travelin’ Band” (which also featured John Fogerty, Brad Paisley, and Charlie Daniels). Meanwhile, Carrie was back in her home state of Oklahoma, specifically Tulsa over the weekend, making a couple of surprise appearances. Carrie attended Saturday night’s 10th annual “Fur Ball” fundraiser for the Oklahoma Alliance For Animals, which raised money to help the OAA serve its mission of “reducing pet overpopulation, encouraging responsible pet ownership and promoting the humane treatment of animals through community collaboration and education.” Carrie’s hometown shelter Happy Paws was among the honorees receiving a “Making A Difference” award and grant from the OAA. On Sunday night, Carrie turned up at Winter Jam 2014, a multi-act concert of Christian acts including The Newsboys, Lecrae,, Tenth Avenue North, Plumb, Colton Dixon, and Thousand Foot Krutch at the BOK Center in Tulsa. Thousand Foot Krutch lead singer Trevor McNevan is a childhood friend of Carrie’s hubby Mike Fisher, was directly involved in introducing the couple to each other, and with his wife Erin remains close friends with Carrie & Mike.
