Update: “Home Sweet Home” is now available on iTunes:

Rumors were floating around about which song would serve as the boot song for American Idol Season 8.   David Cook’s “Daily AntheM” and “Long Way” a new song from Daughtry’s upcoming album were two songs fans were buzzing about.

As it turns out, it’s a remake of Motley Crue’s “Home Sweet Home” recorded by Season 4 winner, Carrie Underwood, that will send ousted Season 8 contestants on their way home.

Check out Motley Crue’s version HERE.   Seems fitting.

Check out a preview of Carrie Underwood’s “Home Sweet Home” right here:

“Home Sweet Home” makes it’s debut during this week’s results show and will be released as a digital single, found exclusively at iTunes through March 16, and then at online music retailers everywhere.

The release of the single will support one of Carrie’s favorite causes–Carrie, 19 Recordings, and Sony Music Nashville will donate a portion of the sales proceeds from Â’”Home Sweet HomeÂ’ ” to The Humane Society of the United States (www.hsus.org).

“I’Â’ve always loved this song,” says Carrie, “and besides being very fitting for Idol, to me, the title is also very fitting with animal rescue and finding animals their own homes.”

“We felt it was important to tie the release into an amazing animal charity like The HSUS,” she says.

Carrie follows in the footsteps of fellow idols Daughtry, whose original song, “Home” served as the Season 6 boot song, and Ruben Studdard who recorded a cover of   Kenny Loggin’s “Celebrate Me Home” for Season 7.

  • yeahyeahsure

Finally, all speculations can end lol. I can’t wait to hear it. It should be good!

  • weareallinnocent

Well, there ya go, all my wishfulness for naught! LOL Good for Carrie, I’m sure it will be nice, if not fitting. :-)

  • Victoria

Well, this should be much better than Celebrate Me Home. Glad we get a (probably) good farewell song this year.

  • Jolene

LMAO, Was it someone in today’s DC thread who said they were surprised Carrie never recorded a boot song? Ha!

ETA: Found it! It was Cheese.

    Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m surprised they havenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t had Carrie record a boot song.

And all this time I was thinking Daughtry… LOL

  • dv

its good being Idol golden child, hopefully its better then last year.

  • Skylark

Cheers to Carrie for supporting the HSUS with sales of this song!

  • tinawina

Aw nice! Go Carrie! nice that its for charity this year.

  • yeahyeahsure

Oh god, don’t remind me of Celebrate Me Home. Sorry Reuben, I love ya but I hated what they did with last year. This is not surprising – among all the winners, Carrie is and will always be Idol’s top golden child. This guarantees her a performance slot on Idol even without a new album/single to promote. Since it’s a cover though, I don’t think it’ll be as huge as Home or Bad Day but it will definitely be bigger than Celebrate Me Home.

  • YellowClouds

Well, they had to have her singing at the finale, and since she won’t have a single out by then… it makes sense.

  • TwigLA

That should work quite well and I suspect I will like Carrie’s rendition better than Motley Crue’s

  • kimberann

Don’t get me wrong because I like Carrie, but I am disappointed. I really thought David should get it this year. It seems AI bends over backwards for Carrie. :glurps_tb:

  • Trina

I’m very happy with this. I love Carrie and I love this song so I think it will be great. Even better that proceeds are going to charity.

  • bjesgirl

This is surprising, but not really. She’s the one that’s on the show like 5 times a year, so I should’ve known.

But I thought they would go for David Cook, the crowned prince. Idol had become an hour long David Cook commercial for a second there. So with him not getting the boot song… I guess I would consider him… snubbed?

You know what would have fit really well? “Breakaway” by Kelly. Wonder why they didn’t use it.

  • Jolene

Aww, don’t be disappointed kimberann! No winner (or non-winner) ever had the boot song right after winning (or not winning. Dammit, Daughtry is ruining my flow here). I won’t be surprised if David does it next year, but I didn’t really expect it this year.
I’m happy it’s Carrie and not Daughtry, though, have to admit.

Idol had become an hour long David Cook commercial for a second there.

I need to start watching the Idol you’re watching.

  • YellowClouds

Note to Adam Lambert: Make sure you sneek the word HOME to one of your tracks when you record that winning album. It might pay off big time.

  • ilovetohateai

nice move on AI. its a lot better than any of cook’s song.

  • spencer

TG!! and Yay for the HSUS. that’s all.

  • yeahyeahsure

Well, Carrie is the only winner to have brought so much success to 19M so it makes perfect sense to me. Kelly obviously is still the reigning Idol queen but she’s kinda detached from Idol already and is not with 19M anymore. They want people to be reminded that AI creates superstars out of their winners – 6X albums! #1 singles! Grammys! Sold out tours! Public figures! And only those two among the winners did that.

  • Jolene

Note to Adam Lambert: Make sure you sneek the word HOME to one of your tracks when you record that winning album. It might pay off big time.

LOL! Too true. I wonder why they’re going with covers and not new original songs, though. I would think that has higher sales potential.

  • yeahyeahsure

LOL Jolene – I was just about to edit it. You’re right RCA has nothing to do with it. It’s all about 19M.

YellowClouds, LOL! You’re right! That makes it 3 consecutive years with the titles having “Home”. That’s actually funny when you think about it.

  • leome

The release of the single will support a cause dear to CarrieÂ’s heart as Carrie, 19 Recordings, and Sony Music Nashville will donate a portion of the sales proceeds from Â’Home Sweet HomeÂ’ to The Humane Society of the United States

    This is nice!

I’m glad they’re going with an idol. That one should be good.

  • Dr. Tracey

Hopefully David will get it next year…………if there is an next year LOL j/k
Nice work donating some of the proceeds to The Humane Society, i’ll buy it but for that reason alone.

  • Trina

Not getting the boot song is considered snubbed now? They used one of his songs 3 times this season and his coronation song another time for a montage. He’s hardly been snubbed.

  • Jolene

Not getting the boot song is considered snubbed now?

Hmmm, I wonder if we’ll now stop hearing about how he owes all his success to Idol pimpage. No? Silly me.

    ETA: Sorry MJ.
Yay for Carrie. I’m happy for her, and I see it as her plus, not anyone else’s minus.

  • http://myspace.com/girlgeek mj

Hmmm, I wonder if weà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll now stop hearing about how he owes all his success to Idol pimpage. No? Silly me.

UGH PEOPLE. This post is about Carrie. Stop with sniping, please. I’ll be deleting off topic posts.

  • windmills

    Amazon sample!
    here

I’m really happy for a new Carrie song and the fact that it will help support HSUS’s efforts to find animals good homes makes it even better.

  • kimberann

Yeah, forget AI’s prince, I think David is AI’s king. Carrie is the queen and David is the king. Too bad they did not record a song with “Home” in it together. :lol_wp: It has to be better than ruben’s song. lol

  • BootStar

Not getting the boot song is considered snubbed now? They used one of his songs 3 times this season and his coronation song another time for a montage. Heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s hardly been snubbed.

Yeah, I’m all about Cook, but I was starting to think the pimpage was OTT. And Daughtry had his year to sing the losers out, so it seems especially fitting that it would be Carrie or Kelly. I just despised that Ruben number last year. Anything would be an improvement on that, but this just sounds perfect to me. I always liked when Carrie rocked out, and proceeds to the HSUSA? Awesome. (Kittens and puppies, FTW!)

  • amiroamor

Oh, maybe it’s a gift for her birthday as well. Yeay Carrie!

  • CathyMK

Too bad they did not record a song with à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Homeà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ in it together.

Maybe they can use Go Your Own Way next year, LOL.

Home Sweet Home is a boring song. At least Carrie has a better voice than the guy from Motley Crue. I love Carrie for her commitment to helping animals.

  • Keel

I like that it’s tied to a charity that Carrie supports — especially given that there won’t be IGB this year.

  • Hoppy

Works for me. :) And it’s even better that the money is going to charity.

Besides, I love A Daily Anthem, and am glad they used it a few times this year, but it just doesn’t sound like a traditional AI boot song to me. This one does.

  • sr4mjc

Bummer, i really wanted Adam to sing this song this year. But good for Carrie.

  • sma11ie

HA, that was fast! Does this mean that if we speculate aimlessly enough about a topic here on MJ (and let’s face it, beat it to death a bit), we’ll get news? Nice. Someone totally called it that it was Carrie’s turn. That’s cool, and I like this is for a charity.

Guess this means means we won’t hear any more DC music on AI except when he’s shows up, since they don’t have time for any more montages outside of the exit one from here out, right? Oh, there’s the homecoming ones for Top3. Haha, the S8 contestants need to step it up soon so I actually start looking forward to their performances rather than tuning in hoping for DC pimpage…

  • lovegoodmusic

I like the song and I will definitely buy it. And I keep thinking that it would be even better with David Cook and Carrie Underwood singing it together. But at least we have Carrie, so it’s all good.

OK, here’s what I think about fan groups fighting like cats.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1hPxGmTGarM&feature=channel_page

  • gingerly

I end up hating any boot song. It just doesn’t remind me of good things…

  • Lino

Great news. I love Carrie. Amazing singer. Let’s how the entire song will look like. I liked the snippet.

  • sabby_rina

    Ehh… interesting version. :mellow_tb:

  • star

Haha, this is pretty epic. Random, but epic. I’d been thinking “Save You” off of Kelly’s new album would be a nice farewell song.

  • jumpstart

Donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t get me wrong because I like Carrie, but I am disappointed. I really thought David should get it this year. It seems AI bends over backwards for Carrie.

Personally, I think it’s wonderful and way past due. I love the fact that proceeds will benefit The Humane Society.

I know that Simon Fuller personally manages DC (and I believe he also manages Daughtry and Carrie) so I’m not at all surprised at any “pimpage” they receive.

  • yeahyeahsure

I wonder if they’re going to send this to radio and promote it as a single?

  • http://www.myspace.com/swood1104 Sarah

No winner (or non-winner) ever had the boot song right after winning (or not winning. Dammit, Daughtry is ruining my flow here).

This is not correct. Daughtry was a contestant in season 5. His song, “Home” was the boot song in season 6.

Personally, I think ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s wonderful and way past due. I love the fact that proceeds will benefit The Humane Society.

Agreed. I thought Carrie should have had it last year.

I like what I heard of the snippet, but I want to hear the whole song.

  • Layla

Carrie’s okay. i had hoped it would be a DC song, but yeah-okay.

  • sayxwhat

Yes! Much better than Ruben’s “Celebrate Me Home.” But, yeah. It’d be cooler if DC got to sing the farewell song. Alot of the songs on his album had potential. Hopefully he gets to sing the farewell song next year =] à ¢Ã¢â€ž ¢ ¥

  • Jolene

This is not correct. Daughtry was a contestant in season 5. His song, à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Homeà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ was the boot song in season 6.

    LOL, shows I only started watching Season 7. Well, no winner had a song the following year…. (-;

  • Deejay

These boot songs they’re recording are boring and too literal. Daughtry’s song worked at the time, but every song every year does not need to have the word “home” in the title. Come on.

A less-obvious DC song would have been more interesting. LO and CBTM both could have worked.

  • lifeisfun

its funny that the idol winners get to sing the songs, since they never really had to go home!

ha ha I want adam to win, but it would be funny is Adam wrote the song for next year cuz LA is his home!
The lyrics would be something like: i lost, so i need to walk a couple of blocks to get to the apartment i can basically see from my hotel room!

  • mandalay

I still here “Ya Had a Bad Day” no matter what the official song is.

  • poporange

Wrong Chirs Daughtry sang a boot song and did get kicked off but give him credit his cd took off big time…I rememeber Ai showed its classless side reared its head again ..

Is it in the American Idol contract somewhere that Carrie U must appear at least once on the show each year .No the best boot song IMO is “Had A Bad Day” because the contestant ususally did..

Adam singing “Another One Bites the Dust” would be cool..

  • Victoria

From what I’ve heard of the clip, I like the song. Not sure if I will buy it or anything, but I think it’s a good farewell song :)

ha ha I want adam to win, but it would be funny is Adam wrote the song for next year cuz LA is his home!

    Haha!

  • bigepaz

Carrie picked an awesome charity to support. I will support the song too!

  • meme

Oh, I really like Carrie’s version of HSH and will be purchasing it on the 16th. Much better than Rubens song from S7.

  • Skylark

Boot songs that have a “can’t wait to be home” spin make no sense…they don’t want to go home!! AI never should have dropped “Bad Day” …

  • Niall

I like Carrie but I’m having a hard time hearing HSH and NOT hearing Vince Neil. Carrie Underwood and Motley Crue just don’t mix well to me.

  • weareallinnocent

The lyrics would be something like: i lost, so i need to walk a couple of blocks to get to the apartment i can basically see from my hotel room!

Adam singing “Another One Bites The Dust” would be cool

Should not drink from wine glass while reading mjs comments, should not drink from wine glass while reading mjs comments…
    :lol_tb:

Another One Bites The Dust as the boot is made of all kinds of win! LOL

  • bean99

Good cause but didn’t like the clip. It doesn’t really matter to me who does the boot song but would like a good one.

  • 2dogs

I don’t think there will ever be a better boot song than, “Had a Bad Day.” I agree, much more fitting than talk of “sweet home,” for contestants that want to be anywhere but home.

But, Carrie is such a wonderful ambassador for Idol, a class act, and I love that portion of this is going to charity. It’s first decision that Idol has made this year that I like.

  • Trina

Just downloaded it from iTunes! I love it!

  • cookcricket

OK, hereà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s what I think about fan groups fighting like cats.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1hPxGmTGarM&feature=channel_page

LOL, I was going to post this on the headlines page! LOL! We seriously used to have a cat that acted exactly like this. The vet had a “warning’ sign on his cage once when we went to pick him up.
tinawina’s initial comment about puppies made me laugh louder than anything else today.

I’m so happy for Carrie and it’s going to a good cause. I’ve never bought anything of her’s before, but I’ll be buying this.
I see it’s available from iTunes now, yeah! I’ll download it tomorrow.

  • Layla

    Boot songs that have a à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t wait to be homeà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ spin make no senseà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦they donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t want to go home!! AI never should have dropped à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Bad Dayà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦

    This.

  • elisad

    It’s on iTunes now.

  • whosefanryou

I’ve listened to David Cook’s CD with a potential exit song in mind and really, the only one I thought would work lyrically was Life on the Moon, but it’s probably not slated as a single at any point, so not a great choice as it probably wouldn’t make the kind of impact they’d like to make.

I was a diehard Bo fan and don’t listen to country music as a general rule, so I’ve never bought any of Carrie’s music. I’m happy she got the boot song this season though and I will definitely buy it since it benefits such a great cause.

I think Daughtry got a boot song because it was not only a perfect song for the purpose lyrically, but they were also still in the mindset of wanting to choose a song that would also likely become a huge radio hit. It seemed to only dawn on them later that it would be a good idea to always use a former Idol. Unfortunately last year’s was a disaster in pretty much every respect. This year they’ve tweaked the formula a bit further by having the proceeds go to a good cause, and insured a decent level of success by going with one of Idol’s golden girls.

  • yeahyeahsure

#68 on Itunes now! The power of Carrie Underwood and front page Itunes ad! :clap_tb:

  • ordinarygirl09

why would they be happy to go home?

eh that means their journey ended.

anywho I love Carrie. I wish they would have found a better song for her to sing than this shitty song.

    Motley Crue sucks.

  • leilamaurizia

Since Carrie’s an 80′s rock/ hair metal band girl, it’s pretty safe to assume she chose this one herself. She loves Motley Crue and even performed onstage with Vince Neil when he did a concert in Nashville.

Seems like she’s given free reign when choosing what songs to do for her Idol extra-curricular activities– George Michael for IGB, Fleetwood Mac’s “Go Your Own Way” for Idol Experience, etc.

  • leilamaurizia

By the way, the song is now #8 on iTunes in all genres. Before being played or mentioned on the show!
