Carrie Underwood’s 4th album, Blown Away, released on Tuesday is set to debut at No 1 on the Billboard 200 Albums chart next week.  It’s her 3rd chart topper following 2009’1 Play On and 2007′s Carnival Ride.  Her post-idol debut, 2005′s Some Hearts debuted and peaked at #2.

The new disc is predicted to sell around 275K according to industry sources. Some numbers from Billboard Magazine:

Blown Away is Underwood’s first album to be released outside of the always-busy fourth quarter, where sales are amplified as consumers are shopping for holiday gifts. Thus, it’s not a huge surprise to see how Blown Away‘s start is a bit less than that of her earlier albums. Play On launched with 318,000 according to Nielsen SoundScan, Carnival Ride bowed with 527,000 and Some Hearts did 315,000.

Actually, I think Carrie’s projected numbers are solid considering the time of year she’s releasing. If the numbers hold up, I do believe congratulations are in order.

Since album sales have been slow for most artists since 2008, I think these numbers are excellent. Very few artists get first weeks like Gaga, Adele and Taylor have. Heck, most country artists are lucky to get 100k in the first week. Carrie is doing awesome with a very strong album. I wouldn’t be surprised to see this go double platinum by the end of the year.

I agree mj.  The drop in sales is very tiny between the PO era and the projections for this album.  I’m very interested to see revised projections that come out late tomorrow night and who knows, they could trend up a little.

Carrie has been able to do something that some solo females on country radio are having such a hard time doing at the moment and that is getting airplay that not only moves album units but sells singles as well.  I’m sure the label is grinning ear to ear at the moment at these potential figures.   The i-tunes strategy the label used for PO worked very well in favor by releasing a new song from the album each week to i-tunes and of course this time, we were able to preview the entire album through i-tunes and I think that was an excellent strategy as well that I think along with tv and radio promo, will help her to reap some big rewards this week that will be reflected in the first week sales numbers that are released next Wednesday.

    Congrats Carrie!

I think it’s great Carrie has had so much success. I just don’t listen to much country music so I’m not her audience.

Not only are these numbers excellent considering the constant drop in sales, but she didnt even release during the holiday season. Carrie is a goddess.

I really enjoy listening to “Good Girl.” It’s one of my favorite songs at the moment. She is one of my favorites in country music. She may possibly get a bigger bump in sales after her appearance tomorrow on Idol. It helped Scotty a few weeks ago.

It also says it could be as high as 295K, so that isn’t a bad drop at all. She is showing no signs of slowing down!

Really good #s.  She hasn’t really had a huge hit in a long time.  I had thought maybe 200k just because of the time of year and the long wait between albums.

If she has a kick ass performance on idol like the other day on Letterman, it could go over 300k.

Carrie is kicking ass and taking names – as expected, lol. She and Kelly keep solidifying their standing as superstars (no need to preface them w/the ‘Idol’ moniker, they blasted thru that bubble long ago) in their genres with their consistent ability to move singles and CD’s. Hats off to Carrie, it’s all about her today and this week – go Carrie! o/

Carrie is awesome! I’m not suprised at all that she will be coming out on top AGAIN! She’s so talented and her Album is amazing! Carrie takeover 2012!

These are fabulous first week numbers for Carrie — not at all a surprise.  I actually think they will wind up being a little high due to the Idol performance.  HDD sometimes has a hard time estimating the effect of Idol performances on sales.  Carrie is likely to sell and sell and sell and will undoubtedly have more than one week at number one.

This is pretty incredible.  I’m not even a country fan, and I’m loving her new album.  Go Carrie! She deserves it.

Does anyone know if there is a retail outlet that is selling her CD with extra tracks on it?

For Carrie to sell 300,000 first week units is incredible and proves she is a legend at 28 yrs old.  Her single “Good Girl” is already gold and approaching platinum (just like REMIND ME did last year).  Carrie has transcended Idol and I wish the media would stop reminding the world of that springboard.. who cares when Carrie is the best singer in the business, and one of few artists who combine meaningful lyrics, powerhouse vocals, classy delivery.  Carrie has amassed the most consistent, quality song catalog of the last decade – no one else can touch her diverse set of songs.  BTW – Gaga cheated on her last album since Amazon bought 600,000 units as promo freebies yet RIAA counted those as actual sales.. her label tricked the system to get 1M sales debut – its rigged and fake, oh well.  If Miranda’s sub-par “four the record” can win ACM AOTY then “Blown Away” needs to win AOTY for sure.  Only Jason Aldean and Keith Urban are putting out as “complete” (no filler) albums like Carrie. Bravo !!!
