Carrie Underwood performed her new single “Blown Away” on the Loose Women show–basically the UK version of The View.

After a short chat, Carrie performed another beautiful acoustic version of the song. Carrie is set to perform at the Royal Albert Hall tomorrow night.

Also, in an interview with the Associated Press, shes asked to address the remarks she made in a recent interview with The Independent UK about marriage equality:

“I was asked a difficult question in the last five minutes of an interview and I answered it the best way I knew how, and after that I do what I do and I love making music and I generally try to stay out of any kind of controversy,” she told The Associated Press in an interview Tuesday. That said, Underwood is a former “American Idol” and Grammy winner who knows what she says will be heard. “The role-model word is really scary to me, because no matter what happens in your life, something you do, wear, say, sing, whatever—somebody somewhere is probably not going to like it too well,” she said. “I just really try hard to do what I do and try to be nice to people and make great music and if people think they can look up to that, that’s wonderful. If not, that’s OK too.”

Carrie rocks!  Young girls would do well to look up to Carrie as a role model, just her simple comment about being nice to people is enough of a reason to emulate her.  Obviously her talent is on par with her class and wisdom.

Carrie does deserve credit for supporting marriage equality. But I totally disagree with the notion that the proper role for young girls is to be nice and avoid controversy.

I was saying that being nice to people is a quality that everyone, boys and girls, would do well to emulate.

It’s ridiculous to regard any celebrities as “role models”. True role models are people that one knows in real life.

Carrie is and always has been a class act, and is the perfect role model for young girls today IMO. Being nice to people is a quality that every person on the planet should be emulating.

I disagree. Yes, one should most definitely (and probably mainly) have role models that they know in real life. But I see no issue in considering a celebrity a role model. David Archuleta has been one of my role models since he was on AI, even though he’s only a year older than me. Role models can come from all ages and backgrounds; if a person looks up to someone and wants to emulate things they see them do, I think that’s a role model.

If someone looks up to Carrie or Archie or whoever and is inspired by them, it’s a good thing. I know personally Archie has impacted some aspects of my life. And like Carrie said, she’s fully aware that she is some people’s role model. Unfortunately she’s right that no matter what there’s always criticism with her every move.

fuzzywuzzy: It’s ridiculous to regard any celebrities as “role models”. True role models are people that one knows in real life.

One of the things Carrie mentioned in her interview on Loose Women was that the women she looked up to growing up the most were the ones at home. She’s been very consistent in saying she believes the most important role models are the ones at home, not random celebs, and that though she’s appreciative if anybody takes some inspiration from the way she conducts herself, it’s not something she allows to dictate what she does or says.

I saw a couple comments comparing Carrie’s outfit at last night’s industry performance to something Tinkerbell would wear, and it’s totally cracking me up (you can see the outfit in the AP video). She performed Good Girl, Blown Away, Two Black Cadillacs, Wine After Whiskey, and Before He Cheats.

She was apparently also at ITV studios today before the HMV album signing too. Here’s a picture of the line there.

My point was that it’s impossible to really “know” any celebrity from interviews, PR, etc. so it’s really their “image” that one is using as “role model” status, not who they are in real life. Depending on who the celebrity is, that image may be very different from the real life person (too many examples to cite here).

Yes I understand that. But you said it’s ridiculous to regard any as a role model. If someone is inspired by the way a celebrity presents themselves to the public (or in their book, or through their music, whatever), that’s what matters. It’s about inspiring good in people. Even if the person is actually a horrible person, to me what matters is that people are taking the good they see in someone and trying to model themselves after that. No one’s perfect. Unfortunately, some people choose to find role models in celebrities that do not portray good things in public. However, this can happen with people you know too. A kid’s mother or father or sibling is never around or does bad things, and that’s what the kid sees and has to model themselves after. So I don’t think it’s ridiculous for people to look to whoever they need to for inspiration and a role model. And I think most celebrities understand that.

I prefer this version of Blown Away.  Less production allows the vocals to shine and this is the first time I was able to understand every lyric.  Sometimes a powerful song shines more in a simpler background, imo.

I like both versions. Guess it just depends on my mood.

She might have sold more albums than Kelly in the U.S., but Kelly is the international American Idol superstar. Being from South America, I know that country music isn’t as well embraced as pop music worldwide.

So, she kinda didnt stand by what she said before. I guess selling records is more important.

    Not necessarily!

    You’re so right ~ bravo!

  • http://twitter.com/nancy2heart nancy

It’s also sometimes impossible to really “know” ANYONE, don’t you think?  Personally, in my own life, I’ve looked up to and thought I totally knew certain people, but (one in particular, who I emulated) turned out to be a monster!  You don’t ever really know someone’s heart – and yet that person may have, at one time, been a “role model” to you!

  • http://twitter.com/nancy2heart nancy

Carrie basically is a country music star who can (and does) sing country-pop too!  I like Kelly too – but I can’t say which one’s voice I love better.  I’m not primarily a country fan either – but Carrie has won me over!

She DID Stand by what she said before! She didn’t take anything back!  Where on earth did you get that from her comments???

she did not clarify or change her comment. She stood by it! All she said was she said what she said, but she wasn’t looking for controversy.

Why would you interpret her comments in any way as a negation or retracting of her earlier pro-gay marriage comments?   She NEVER took it back. Not once!

  • http://twitter.com/MissGolightly22 No Thanks

That’s not true. She hasn’t backtracked at all.  She’s just made it clear she’s keen to stay out of the political fray.

Think we could sneak these ladies (and the other two that did Kelly’s interview a little bit ago) over here and replace our The View ladies?  Would be an infinite upgrade.
