DC was certainly wonderful when he sang two Christmas songs at Rockefeller Center last year. I have complete faith in him that he’ll be worth watching and listening to.

Weird – why would DC be on a Christmas show with a bunch of country singers? Is he going to sing ToML: the Nashville song of the year winner? lol

Seriously – I would watch DC – via the net – on anything he appeared on and pairing with Carrie Underwood is not a bad thing, but WTF…

Seriously, even Christmas doesn’t have to be cheesy. There are new songs to sing, and be written, and old songs can be sung in new ways. There are new ways to envision the holidays, it doesn’t even have to be just about Christmas, it can include other seasonal holidays. Even if it’s just about Christmas, it can be made modern and smart, with a little cheese here and there. I hope they use their imagination in producing it. Not dark, but it can include humor, and some awareness of the current global world. But whatever, I’ll be watching it regardless, but some more modern Christmas productions in general would be welcome. And modern can include reaching back to the past, to pagan celebrations, and awareness of nature and the seasons, and awareness of various faiths, and of people who don’t have family on Christmas. Lots of possibilities.

But that’s not to burden this particular show with expectations. Just speaking in general about Christmas and cheese. It’s not inevitable.

aha, it sounds INCREDIBLY cheesy. Not sure I’ll make it through the whole thing, especially if it’s mostly country artists, but I’m gonna suck it up and watch it cuz I miss seeing DC on my TV

I am confused aren’t all Christmas specials “cheesy” by definition. Who wants a dark, introspective, gloomy, Kafka inspired, Christmas show. Not me I want to happy and be filled with “Cheese”.

Your suggestions are way awesome, oceana, but I don’t even care if there’s a cheesy song. This is a Christmas show after all. I actually expect to hear something from them that isn’t mainstream. I’d love to hear Oh Come Oh Come Emmanuel, but that’s my favorite sacred Christmas song. I just want to see them do something different, something a bit wtf. Anyhow one of my very favorite Christmas memories was Bing Crosby and David Bowie. That was magic and even led my father to think there was something with Bowie…

I think this has a chance of being all kinds of awesome. Both David and Carrie have awesome voices. They have a chemistry together. They have musicality. Needless to say, I’m excited.

Hilarious Billy Squire flashback, sunchick! I forgot how much Martha Quinn resembles Rachel Dratch.

Carrie’s special is going to be great cheesy fun no matter what, but I’m super-excited about the Cookwood potential. Carrie and Dave are good friends and have great chemistry, and their voices sounded so fantastic together in the AI Experience duet. But more than that, somehow for me they represent American Idol at its best. Two truly talented, likable, and successful winners. They two of them together on stage are a great reminder of the promise of the show.

Brad taped his part in Nashville last week while Carrie was in LA. I don’t know how they’ll make the duet work but I’d guess there will be some fancy editing going on.

Weird! Yeah, that oughtta be interesting to see how they work out a virtual duet on screen… I’m picturing something creepy like the holograms they do with singers “duet” with dead people. Hoping it’s something less cheesy.

If there’s a time of year to shamelessly embrace the cheese, it’s the holiday season. This should be fun. Course I’d spazz along with everyone else if Kelly was added to the line up. Can you imagine all three Idols singing together? Yeaaah, never gonna happen. But it would be awesome.
