One of the forgettable performance of the night, unfortunately :(

CARRIE! There’s no one like her :)

Her songs are usually powerful and memorable.  Her performance, like many others last night, was not her best and the song wasn’t memorable, but, hey, it is just one song.

Almost no one sounded good last night; I began to wonder if the singers just could not hear themselves well enough.

Like I was saying in the other thread, the mix had the band way too loud. For a song like this where the lyrics tell a story, you need at least 1 of 2 things: (1) the vocal to be more up front so people can hear the lyrics or (2) lots of stage production to tell the story. Carrie’s tour screens (which they used at the AMAs) are cool but they didn’t help tell the story of the song to people who are unfamiliar with the song (which would be most people, seeing as this is a new single even to country radio).

I heard the West Coast airing had better sound and if that’s the case, I’d love to see a cap of that. Carrie’s vocal sounded great to me after the 1st line. Since I already knew the song I was really listening for some vocal nuances in her delivery and I heard some that I really liked, I just would like to hear them better. I thought Carrie performed it well too, except I wished she’d found a way to make the two times between verses when she walked from mark to mark part of the performance.

As a song 2BC is obviously far and away the best and most interesting song that was performed last night but, I’m obviously not going to call it the most interesting performance on a night when Pink did what she did. I’m going to guess it didn’t make a big impression on people unfamiliar with the song because you really need to pay attention to the lyrics for that to happen.

As usual, Carrie sounded great. The problem I have with “Two Black Cadillacs” is that there were far better single choices on the album than this song. It will make for a great video, but performance wise and vocally, it is very one note and leaves little room for Carrie to leave a lasting impression.

“Wine After Whiskey”, the strongest song on the album after the title track, would have been better third single in my opinion.

Amazing performance and amazing vocals. Even the other artist at the AMA’s were Blown Away by her performance. Definitely one of the best performances of the night. Go Carrie!

Love Carrie and everything about her, but this song for a single just isn’t the greatest. There’s no “wow!” moment in the song, like “Blown Away” did for me.

Amanda: “Wine After Whiskey”, the strongest song on the album after the title track, would have been better third single in my opinion.

I want Wine After Whiskey to be a single too. I don’t know if it has much of a chance though. I know how wrong this is going to sound but as a ballad, the label might see WAW as “too country” for country radio. I hope I’m wrong. I hope WAW will graduate to a song Carrie actually sings on the 2nd leg of the BA tour. If it does then its odds of being released increase by a lot.

I expected Do You Think About Me to be the 3rd single but I’m good with 2BC as the 3rd single. I’m just a little surprised they went back to back with the darkest songs on the album. Then again 2BC got strong reviews when the album comes out, and Country Universe just came out with a rave of it as a single. I actually think it sounds great on the radio and the storyline makes it stand out. I figure DYTAM can go 4th and then if there’s a 5th single from BA then hopefully it’ll be either WAW, Cupid’s Got A Shotgun, or Leave Love Alone.

Boring song. There much better songs, wonder why her team decided to go with this?

Oy. You can’t please everyone I guess.

TBC is by far one of the best songs Carrie has ever done, whether you haters like to admit it or not ;)
