Carrie Underwood and Steven Tyler Duet “Beautiful” Confirmed

Last month, we reported and confirmed that that Steven Tyler and Carrie Underwood recorded a duet for the upcoming Aerosmith album, Music From Another Dimension, but now we have confirmation from the band’s bass player, Tom Hamilton,  that the song is called “Beautiful.” The song is written by Brad Whitford (Aerosmith’s rhythm guitarist), Joey Kramer (Aerosmith’s drummer), Steven Tyler, Tom Hamilton (Aerosmith’s bass player), and longtime Aerosmith collaborator Marti Frederiksen.

There also is a decidedly country song, “Beautiful,” that Hamilton helped write and which features country superstar Carrie Underwood.

“I mean, we didn’t really sit down and say, ‘Let’s write something that sounds country,’ but it did come out, you know?” he says. “And it’s just a reflection of the fact that everybody in the band loves country music, so it’s going to be an influence at some point.”

A cover version of the band’s biggest-selling hit and only No. 1, “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing,” by country singer Mark Chesnutt topped the country charts.

Mix 104.1 Music Director Mike Mullaney got the scoop on the song’s vibe from Steven Tyler and Joe Perry, backstage at the Aerosmith concert in Boston earlier this week.

“I think people should think back to the one Bon Jovi did with Jennifer Nettles. That was kind of the vibe. He’s fresh off Idol, obviously he knows the power of Carrie Underwood. At first the band didn’t want to put it on, but the label convinced them. ‘Guys. This will get you airplay in red states'”

Steven Tyler had previously said it took him a while to get the rest of the band on board with the song:

Noting the album’s stylistic diversity (watch for a Carrie Underwood duet), Tyler takes special pride in the song Beautiful, “which is so strange that nobody thought it was an Aerosmith song,” he says. “It took me five months to talk the band into liking it. That’s why they hate me. I’m hard to deal with. I like to take risks.”
