Carly Smithson Says She’ll Be Writing Songs With a “Certain Season 5 Rocker”

It certainly sounds like it’s Daughtry! That should be very interesting. Looking forward to hearing Carly’s album.

Does anyone know what label she’s with? Or any info on when her album will come out?

Wow, that is so cool that she’s gonna be writing with Chris Daughtry. He is one of my favorite Idols and I love his music. I can’t wait for Carly’s album-it’s going to be amazing!!! We don’t know any details on a label yet but she is working on her album and recently let us hear her new songs in a video on the LA Times website. We hope to hear some label news soon.

I think it’s great that Carly & Daughtry might write songs together. But what about Daughty’s next album? I wonder if he is finished with his own project.

Carly was my favorite female contestant in season seven and I can’t wait to buy her new album.

So the RAD is supposed to be a hint? It could be David RADford… except I don’t think he’s a rocker. It could be Daughtry, but I don’t get how RAD can be a hint to him?

No offense to Carly, but I’m a little skeptical that she would have the clout or connections to work with Chris Daughtry. And about her “hint” – wasn’t David RADford on season 5. OMG, she’s working with Kevin Covais! LOL I’m happy she’s working with Daughtry (If she is); I just find the coyness a little irritating. She all but said Daughtry. I mean that’s like Jordin saying that she wants to work with David from Season 7…no, the other David. :lol_wp:

I can absolutey see Carly writing with Chris (although he’s so busy, I don’t know how he’d have time!) IMO, he is a proven fantastic songwriter so, if it is him, it should definitely be interesting.

oooh…..interesting!! That could be a very cool collaboration!! She’s in South Carolina and he’s in North Carolina at the moment so geographically it makes sense lol. I know Chris is busy with their next album but he’s constantly writing with people so I can see it as a strong possibility. She has an awesome voice, it’s great to hear that she’s leaning toward rock. I don’t want to sound rude but the thought of it being David Radford doesn’t really make sense to me (but I guess you never know??)

Is Ace Young considered a rocker? I know the Grease gig will be over in January, as the show is closing, and Ace co-wrote one of Daughtry’s singles, yes?

Great for Carly! She deserves another shot at the brass ring, and IF it is Daughtry she will be collaborating with, there’s no one better to give her a jump start…. Wishing her well in this effort.

Interesting. I can’t think of another rocker from season 5 but her hint makes it confusing. I think a collaboration and even better a duet with Chris would be something I’d love to see happen.

Her description of AI5 rocker certainly makes you think of Daughtry first.
If Daughtry, does he have to get clearance or approval from his label to write with other unsigned artists? Would Carly have to pay something to his label? I don’t know, I’m just asking the question.

Someone upthread asked about Ace Young. Yes, Ace was a co-writer on Daughtry’s first single, “It’s Not Over” for which they received a song writing Grammy nomination.

I’m waiting for the album. I just hope the songs are as good as Carly’s voice, if so, then all will be well.

It would be interesting if the rocker ended up being Chris Daughtry. Didn’t we see here on MJ’s photos of Chris and Kelly Clarkson working on some collaborations or possible duets recently? but that those songs will not be included in their upcoming albums for whatever reasons? Maybe Chris is looking for a female vocal powerhouse with whom to do a duet. But honestly, if it does end up being a Carly and Chris duet, well isn’t there a certain irony in that, no? Odd Idol world and all. Didn’t Carly and Kelly both record “Just Missed the Train” for their respective debut albums? Carly in 2001 and Kelly on Thankful? And obviously Kelly’s album did very well. Hm, well, best of luck to them all.

I could see them doing some exciting music together. Their voices might work well together.

Just for the record, Carly isn’t “leaning towards” rock, she was always a rocker, through and through.

A lot of times people wonà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t announce what theyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢re doing until all the contracts are signed. It can be because things can fall thru at the last second and they donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t want to get their hopes up or disappoint anyone. Also if she announces something and for some reason it falls though a lot of people might see that as having to do with the material instead of outside factors. I hope she gets a chance to record with Daughtry but more importantly Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m hoping for any music from Carly.

Very good point. I totally forgot about her season 5 connection when originally reading her blog. It could very well be that they know each other from season 5 and reconnected at some point.

I’d be really curious to hear a Carly/Chris D collab and/or duet. I bet they’d sound great together, and yeah, his co-write could help give her a boost.

As a side note, I’d also really like to hear the song(s?) that Chris and Kelly did.
