Carly Smithson and her band We Are the Fallen dropped by the Q101 studios in Chicago last week to perform two songs off of their debut album Tear The World Down.

Currently, We Are The Fallen are opening for Norwegian hard rock band, H.I.M and gearing up to release Tear The World Down on May 11.

After the jump, check out acoustic versions of the band’s single “Bury Me Alive” and another tune from the album “I Am Only One”.  Don’t miss some really nice performances from Carly.

Carly is in fine vocal form. She sounds great. This is definitely what she should be doing. She looks like she is feeling the lyrics of these sogns much more then she ever did when she was doing covers on Idol. I’m so happy and proud of what she has made of her time on Idol.

    Very nice performances from Carly.

Wow! Great for Carly if they can break into this station. It’s not as “snobby” as XRT (and I love XRT) but they don’t play Idol music, lol.

Carly’s voice sounds fantastic here. I saw them on tour a few weeks ago and they were amazing!! Got to meet the band too-such nice people. Can’t wait for the album!!

I’m really looking forward to their album. Season 7 ROCKS! :-)

I think this band is the perfect fit for Carly’s otherworldly vocals. I wish them much success and would like to see them live if the atmosphere isn’t too hardcore.(I’m too vain to not care if I’m being laughed at!)

Carly sounds amazing on these tracks. I love I Am Only One.

About frigging time. I have been waiting almost 2 years for something from Carly….She was one of my favorites during season 7 (I still think it should have been a top 3 of Carly, David C, David A and I would have been happy with any 3 winning. Only year I felt that way.) (I think she got a raw deal and backlash over the signed by label situation. When about 7 others of the top 10 did too.) She sounds fantastic. I agree with people here who say she is doing exactly what she is meant too and found the right niche in music for herself. I however think she sounds good in pop too. I bought the Ultimate High Album and there are some really good songs on there especially RIP I think she was marketed wrong. Just like I think they are marketing Allison incorrectly, But I digress) Extremely Happy for her and the Band. I will be buying the Album without a doubt (Through MJ’s site of course) when it comes out May 11) Can’t Wait

Nice. I’ve always really loved her tone when she’s in her lower register. Not the biggest fan of her tone when she belts, which is why I never dug her doing the power ballads on AI. When she did those, I would only love half the song and hate it when she powered, so I preferred her rocking out. Cuz for rock, where there’s more instrumentation, her belting voice is just fine. When she’s singing acoustic or pop, I only like when she stays in her lower register. The second song is pretty nice– wonder what it’d sound like plugged in. I feel like that song would be more interesting plugged in.

I think it sounds fantastic. And she sounds Irish, too. What happened to her on Idol?

I’m looking forward to more. :-)

Here is the live version of “I Am Only One” from their show in London last month. The sound isn’t the best but you can hear how it sounds “plugged in” :

Also, here is another song called “Don’t Leave Me Behind” from Calgary last week. It’s my favorite of their slower songs :

ITA with everything you said Dhunken, I would have loved that Top 3 too, she was way underrated on her season, and unfortunately, she cared too much about the judges comments.

Ultimately High has some nice songs, good pop music for the time it came out on, I never understood why people blamed Carly for what was an obvious lousy promotion.

Can’t wait for the album to come out.

Little correction – H.I.M. is Finnish.

  • CRB

Carly’s just awesome and these acoustic versions let the tone of her voice shine. Somehow, she sounds more “Irish” here for some reason. I Am Only One sounds really pretty “unplugged”.

Oh, you’re the other person who owns that album, dhunken!

It’s a good album. I could never understand why there was all this condemnation of it and of Carly connected to it and so on. …. Although I suppose the criticism generally came from people who’d never heard the album.

Just shows you, yet again, how really good stuff in music can just drop through the cracks and actually become kind of a laughing stock, completely undeservedly, because of some combination of bad circumstances, or just stupidity somewhere.

Oh, well. Carly didn’t want to go in that pop direction anyway. She’s obviously happier doing rock. I think she did a very good job on Ultimate High, though, and there are good songs on that album, too.
