Check out Candice Glover’s funky new song “In The Middle.” She introduced it Friday night in Kent, Washington at the American Idol Live tour opener!

Candice tweeted this morning about the single, “FYI In The Middle is just a fun song on the album not my single;) So glad to see people dancing in the audience haha #IdolTour”

Good luck with that Candice !

  • girlygirl

Hard to hear the lyrics clearly but I like the fact that it’s funky r&b. Definitely better than I Am Beautiful.

Fingers crossed that she can have a hit with this

  • MargieIdol

I like that and with the right production I could definitely hear it on the radio. It’ll be interesting to see how it does. Hopefully Interscope actually promotes it.

  • jdanton2

Sounds very catchy. also it seems what i am guessing might be the backing track includes a Reggae singer.

  • Eileen99

Yay, someone got video of this! I like the vibe of this a lot, I hope the production on the album is good.

  • madmike2276

Love Candice and rooted and voted for her all season. I like the new song, I just was transfixed on the amount of empty seats I saw in the video. It makes me angry that the show let it get so out of control with the judges, lame male contestants and outdated songs that the stench of the failure of the show to right the ship is affecting the tour, and starts Candice and others careers with a negative tarnish. I hope she overcomes it. (Shout out to Mandisa’s new song….unintentional reference!)

  • LongKissGoodnight

Consider my curiosity officially peaked, to my surprise it actually sounds like something I might be interested in.
Have to wait for studio recording, now. And I was so comfortably checked out of everything season 12, damn it! %))

  • Tinawina

I like it as a song, sounds a little Jill Scott meets reggae meets jazz swing?

But as a single, I’m not sure I hear it.

I need to listen the studio version.

**off to watch to the rest of the videos**

  • halo9125

Hard to say from this- it’s not bad, but I don’t where this will go anywhere on radio. I can see myself listening to it but as a single? I dunno. I wonder if the studio version is shorter because this seemed to go on forever.

  • Anny_nanny

I like it, but now I’ll agree to anything that is not ballad or anthem, so I have to wait for the studio version.

  • Tusk

Maybe it’s the knowledge that this tour isn’t selling well, but the echoing really seems to enhance that fact, almost sounds like a pre show sound check. I can’t tell if it’s the ‘unconcert-like’ atmosphere, low energy audience, or the song itself, that makes it feel sedate, drained of energy….maybe it’s the staging/presentation…..
I wonder if there was more of a ‘buzz’ of an excited crowd that might leave me with a better impression of the song.

  • tripp_ncwy

Do we know if Candice’s song will be going up for sale & when?

  • Jay-P

I felt the same, I’m glad you felt the same. There’s no energy or excitement in the audience or Candice. It’s just like she’s just singing and moving with no energy what so ever. Yawn…

  • SteelWauhterz

The song is catchy. Candice is doing her damnedest to bring it alive, but the production sucks-big time. I’m sorry, but these kids are being let down by the pros.

  • SteelWauhterz

The promoters know how ticket sales are trending. Why don’t they bite the bullet, and book smaller (intimate) venues? Right now, they sound and look as if they are singing in the Grand Canyon.

  • SteelWauhterz

I am amazed that “Beautiful” was not given a concert arrangement? They are not singing for the camera or judges, but 3-600 people.

  • tripp_ncwy

    Candice Glover @CandiceGlover
FYI In The Middle is just a fun song on the album not my single;) So glad to see people dancing in the audience haha #IdolTour

  • stef

Hard to make it out but Candice sounds very good with it and it seems like a fun song, I agree it’s more likable than I am Beautiful. Possibly verging on too repetitive though

  • Tusk

Curious to look up the tour videos to see if the vibe is in other videos of the show…(wouldn’t otherwise)…

Maybe it’s the venue, but goodness, could they have a more listless performance for a “Finale” Medley…. “Gone” songs

(Aubrey and Angela doing that plastic cup hand game at the beginning and later the five guys banging on some drums, but they all seem to be on sedatives during the performance)

I like the song a lot and I think for tour it’s perfect; I like that kind of dialog/interaction between the lead-singer(Candice is doing great on this song) and the back-up ones, the performance is nice with lots of movements without being distracting,.. It seems to me this year it might be a good year to go and see this group, the talent is there and finally it might shine no matter how bland and unpopular this year has been seen due to different reasons, mostly show related, And from what I’ve read, kudos to all the people involved to give a nice, modern, relaxed show with little money “on the table”, if there is love, talent and some imagination nothing can go wrong.

  • Jay-P

I think it’s the songs and production. It lacks the energy and like you said “sedative”, I never been to any Idol concerts. But just watching S10 finale. The finale for S12 is like watching grass grow. The audience at the end tried to get into it but never did from the video. Comparing to S10 which was like some high energy fireworks. Both the idols and audience were really into it. I even watched it many times. It got me pumped up just from the performance.

  • jdanton2

Too bad it is not the single . why not perform that instead? are they going to wait till after the tour to debut it?

  • nycguy

Wow I like this song! Why isn’t this being pushed as the lead single?

  • JosieX

I like It very much. Really looking forward to Candice’s album! My husband and I both love her.

  • Madilo

Maybe when they realise people like the song, they’ll choose it as the lead single .

  • braindeadfool

errr i found it ok but not a single but i ll return to neutral opinion until a better quality is posted :/

  • braindeadfool

i actually thought that too but when she came out to twitter about it being just a fun song not a single it was weird now im not sure if putitonme is actually a new single by angie or just an original for tour…

  • LongKissGoodnight

Angie does not have a label to promote her single to radio, so there is not much of a difference between a new song performed for the fans and a “single”.

  • JodiPaul

The thing wrong with Candice is she has NO stage presence what so ever. She just walks and sings. If Judith Hill cannot make it in the biz, Candy gurl certainly is a FAIL. Judith can sing and out preform Candice with her eyes closed. TRUTH

  • JodiPaul

Candice has no stage presence and is just a blob walking around. She is Melanie 2.0

  • shell29

I’m a Candice fan but I found this to be a bit underwhelming (sorry). She sounds good (as usual) but overall the song doesn’t really excite me. Hopefully the recorded version sounds better.

  • No Thanks

This is not single material. I don’t like it. It sounds like a corporate attempt at something “cool”. Very generic and musak-y.

  • JodiPaul

This just lacks anything. Seems like most of the idols are just there in body only. It seems like it’s punishment instead of being thrilled and excited to be performing. FAILED!

  • tripp_ncwy

The actual set being used to stage the show has its own size requirements.

  • Chris

That’s why it’s not a single. Lol but I do like the feel. It gives me more hope than “beautiful”. New single is probably ballad.

  • Miles (Grumpy) (VI)

If I’m trying to sell a CD I’m not sure I would use this as a sample. Having said that… the crowd seemed to like it.

  • voco_qara

I quiet like it. I need to hear the studio version first though before I have a real opinion on it but I like the funky, reggae feel of the song.

  • Garrett Clayman

I am obsessed with Candice but this song is atrocious. They need to push her in the Urban market with a direction either a balladeer like “Love and War” by Tamar Braxton or upbeat like “I Like It” by Sevyn Stretter. They should not try pop because I doubt radio would embrace her and if they did they would not with this weird song that doesnt fit any radio

  • Kariann Hart

Not that’s the real issue. Without promotion, the song sinks. Wonder if it could be used in any TV commercial? ;o)

  • Kariann Hart

The tour needs some surprises. They need more sings that get the crowd up and dancing. I am wishing Candice the very best on her career!

  • Lollygaggin

This is miles better than Beautiful. In other news I don’t know who the gal on the left is but she’s got some moves.

  • Ponkiiee

    it’s either Janelle or Kree

  • SteelWauhterz

Understood. Another reason why I said to bite the bullet (eat your losses), and adjust. Hell, Mick Jagger would get swallowed up in an empty canyon.

  • SteelWauhterz

I maintain that somewhere, Angie is negotiating publishing deals. Forget the recording contract, her writing is solid, and truthfully, that’s where the money is…

  • SteelWauhterz

Nicely said. We will be attending in Orlando. If i could tweak this show, I’d give Curtis songs that play to his strengths, and I would have Amber and Janelle do the songs that made them contenders on Idol (with a sprinkling of the new stuff).

  • girlygirl

Angie already signed a publishing deal with UMPG

  • renzy24

I feel some reggae on this with some soul. :)

  • waitingforthe1

who is Melanie? I don’t remember anyone named Melanie on AI?

  • 50Watts

    It’s Aubrey

  • Ponkiiee

Melanie Amaro from X Factor. I’m not sure if I spelled correctly her last name

  • Happyhexer

I feel the same. I attended the show in Portland, and I didn’t see this song being especially well-received. I love Candice, but I am afraid that No Thanks is right. The song seems generic and unmemorable to me. But I am not especially familiar with the market I assume she’s trying to enter, so . . . ?
