Mark Day Eliminated

Theo Tams and Earl Stevenson in the Bottom 3 (well, that’s bullcrap)

The Idols seemed a little awkward singing Tom Jones hits. Thank God he appeared to rescue them, singing the fabulous “It’s Not Unusual”. Dude is in his 70′s and he still sounds fantastic. He comes back after the break to sing “If He Should Ever Leave You.”

Not happy with the Bottom 3! Well, it was pretty much time for Mark Day to head home, but Mitch MacDonald had the worst performance of the night. His performances are generally underwhelming. It’s time for him to go home. Drew Wright’s performance of “Creep” was way overrated. A new haircut can only get a contestant so far.

And I may be in the minority, but I loved me some Earl and Theo Tuesday night. They’re unique, take chances, and they know who they are as artists. No effing way do they belong in the Bottom 3.

The results show begins tonight at 8 pm ET. Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll post Igrecmanà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s videos ASAP once he’s posted them. If you want to find out who gets booted in real time, check out Vote For the Worst. They’ve got a realp-time stream going over there, and Dave usually posts the results as soon as they’re available.

Tom Jones performs tonight.

Earl is probably my favorite of who’s left, but I can live with him being in the B3. I didn’t think his performance last night was good at all. Still, I thought he would have earned a bit of credit with the audience and the voting public, who most probably should have given him a pass for last night.

Theo in the B3? That I am not ok with. Last night was not his very best, but it was still pretty damn good compared to everyone else! No way should he have been in the B3.

And Mark… Oh Mark. I can’t even snark on him tonight. He was such a class act in his exit, he made me smile. He seemed sad, but also grateful for the experience. Wishing him good things!

  • LadyBeBop

I’m with you, MJ. I’m definately scratching my head at the results.

I stand by what I said yesterday…Mark was not the worst of the night. Mitch was…by a mile.

Let’s see…Amberley has a fanbase (last girl standing). So does Mookie (with Sebastian gone, he has the hottie fanbase). Drew has his entire hometown voting for him (plus he had his best performance last night). Theo and Earl are splitting the Alberta vote (and that’s unfortunate, since they’re my two faves).

    But who’s voting for Mitch?

  • waffle

While I am not able to view the results videos yet, as I am at work, I am so glad Amberly is still in the race! She’s my favorite to win the whole thing. I think she sings so effortlessly. :)

  • smartcookie

Does that leave Mitch, Drew and Amberly as the only ones who haven’t tasted B3? I can’t remember if Amberly was down there with Katherine the night she left. If those truly are the only ones who’ve managed to avoid the bottom, well… All I have to say is, Mitch? Really? Really, Canada?

The judges have made it clear they want Theo, Mookie, Earl and Amberly as the F4, and I can’t say I disagree with them, but I can say I don’t think they’re going to get it.

Small confession. I enjoyed Tom Jones. I can’t believe it, but it’s true. It’s not unusual to be loved by anyone… Lalalalala…

  • primeminister

Mitch and Drew escape the Bottom 3 yet again. Sure, Drew was pretty good last night, but was he better than Theo and Earl throughout the competition? Not in my opinion. And Mitch? He was clearly the WORST of the night.

The voting patterns are totally stinking up the show for me.

  • primeminister

Does that leave Mitch, Drew and Amberly as the only ones who havenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t tasted B3? I canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t remember if Amberly was down there with Katherine the night she left. If those truly are the only ones whoà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve managed to avoid the bottom, wellà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ All I have to say is, Mitch? Really? Really, Canada?

Amberly has been in the B3 before. That leaves freaking MITCH and DREW who’ve never hit the B3.

  • smartcookie

Now I’m starting to wonder if Drew is going to win this whole thing. Behold the power of guyliner!

  • LadyBeBop

I canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t remember if Amberly was down there with Katherine the night she left.

Yes she was. So Drew and Mitch are the only two who haven’t been in the bottom two.

    Ouch.

I just hope that’s not our final two.

The judges have made it clear they want Theo, Mookie, Earl and Amberly as the F4, and I canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t say I disagree with them, but I can say I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t think theyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢re going to get it.

Totally agree with you. As I said, Theo and Earl (and possibly Amberley) are splitting the Alberta vote. And Mookie, while getting Sebastian’s hottie votes, still has been in the bottom three twice.

I think Drew is a lock for top four, and I wouldn’t be surprised if Mitch makes it as well.

    Small confession. I enjoyed Tom Jones. I canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t believe it, but ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s true. Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s not unusual to be loved by anyoneà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ Lalalalalaà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦

Same here. I remember seeing him about 25 years ago. Middle aged ladies in the audience were throwing their panties up on stage. Those were the days.

Of course, now I’m that middle aged lady who would throw her panties up on stage. And if I was at the show tonight, I would have. :devil_tb:

    Me too.

  • lilbrusc102

well, I’m really, really glad Mookie wasn’t in the bottom 3 this week, sad that Earl and Theo were, and surprised by Mitch’s popularity.

I enjoyed Tom Jones as well, haha.

  • sue

LOL with all the Tom Jones comments. Tom was pretty good, I fast forward his new song though, it was uhhhhh….ok no comment. Anyway WTH is Canada thinking? Earl and Theo in the bottom 3??? I think Drew has been in the bottom 3, right? Yeah he has at some point. The only one that has not been there is Mitch. What??? Ok well Mitch is a cutie-pie but he just not that good. Well hopefully this will make Canada vote harder for Theo and Earl. Earl stop making the weird sounds at the end of your singing, pleazze. Theo, I think Canada likes you as the piano guy, ok it’s just me. :) Mark Day should have his own show, he is very articulate and he was great with the audience. Good luck to the funny guy.

  • BootStar

    WTF, Canada????

While it was time for Mark to go, he did leave on a high note, and I do think he has good things in store for the future, just maybe not as a pop singer. I see him as more of a musical theater kinda guy, and that’s no insult.

I’m glad Drew survived because I still like him a lot. I think he’s got a really good voice and just needs to stick with what he does best, as he did last night. Still, my favorites are Theo and Mookie. Love Earl a lot of the time, but as with last night, sometimes he crosses the line from cool into camp and just loses me. That’s something Mookie hasn’t done yet, IMHO. i wasn’t crazy about the song Theo did last night, but big props for stepping out of his comfort zone. Now that he’s proven he can, I hope he goes back to his wheelhouse. Loved “Collided” a few weeks ago, and I really hope he returns to some pretty melodies because the boy can sang.

Glad Amberly is still in it, but, seriously, are my ears tuned differently down here in the States? Because she has a lovely tone and pretty voice, but I just don’t get how she’s any better than so many young female folk-pop singers out there right now. Just don’t get where she’s been original or really stepped out of her comfort zone at all in the competition. Maybe next week when she has to rock we’ll see her step up to the competition? Will be curious to see how she does, for sure.

Mitch? I guess he gets the “cute” vote. Odd, very odd.

    Wikipedia

says that neither Drew or Mitch has ever been in the B3. Mookie has now been there twice, and Earl, Theo and Amberly once each. (There’s a chart near the bottom of the Wikipedia article that makes it easy to spot.)

  • http://myspace.com/saltwatercures pj

I don’t care for Theo, but no effing way did he deserve bottom over Mitch. Not pleased with Earl in the bottom three at all. At least Mookie was safe.

  • http://whatwouldvoltairedo.blogspot.com/ palais

WTF happened? I vote for Mookie and two of my guys almost get sent off.

I am reverting back to an even vote split next week, since this is making me nervous ( they have to be top three!)

    I’m done.

  • http://myspace.com/pm68 Pam

I don’t get why Mitch is still there honestly. It was indeed shocking to see Theo in the bottom 3 and Mitch safe! That made no sense at all! Even though it was indeed Mark’s time, he did leave with a lot of class. I hope next week will be Mitch’s week to hit the road, but I’m not getting my hopes up. lol

I feel the same way about everything you said.

Big Wup, Mark should have been gone 6 weeks ago. I do think that Mitch deserved the boot after that assault on our ears however. I don’t understand who is voting for him, I just don’t get this show.

I’m frustrated that I ever started watching, it was so great until all my favs disappeared and now I have no interest in who wins, no fun!

I’m somewhat pleased that Mookie wasn’t in the bottom though.

  • marco5ny

Haven’t been that surprised or disappointed at who has been voted off the show so far. But like many here I do feel a bit surprised that Drew and Mitch are the only two to never have been in the bottom three. I think it gets pretty interesting at this point going forward.

Other than the fans here, I don’t really have perspective about the voting patterns for the show. Still, I shake my head at the thought that Mookie is getting the “hottie” votes now that Sebastian is gone. If that’s the case, it reinforces my belief, yet again, that I have NO IDEA what women want.

  • movin2thabeet

Well, looking at the bright spots here, Mark had one of the coolest, most gracious exits ever. And Theo and Earl got a big wake up call to shake off any thoughts of inevitability. I am especially disappointed in Theo’s presence in the bottom as I thought he was the strongest of the night and I felt left the most on the stage. Are people not interested in seeing the contestants branch out? I know I am grateful for it.

The judges and a good part of the listeners believe the Top 4 should be Earl, Theo, Mookie and Amberly. So why do Mitch and Drew continue to do so well? It’s a huge mystery to me. One possible explanation is that people like some combination of that group of 4 so split their votes between them. And its likely that Mitch and Drew fans are only voting for them. So in the end, they get a larger portion of the votes. If it was Mitch, Drew and one vote for the 4, I’m sure the 4 would dominate. I guess that means that people voting for the 4 need to either spend more time voting or choose a favorite and take your chances. I’m in a US border town and can’t vote. Sure wish I could.

  • erennick

So why do Mitch and Drew continue to do so well? Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s a huge mystery to me.

Like they say in real estate- it’s location, location, location…

Obviously it takes more than that to continue to last (or win), but if you have rabid hometown/area voting combined with other fans you are golden.

  • Toonces74

Hmm, I am surprized to see Theo in the B3. Earl, not so much. I have only liked his “sitting with guitar” performances. And this week seemed to be worse than all of his other “standing without guitar” performances.

Theo needed to do something different to get out the Archuleta box. But maybe he should have waited until he gets two songs in one week. Then he could still do the wheelhouse song but also do a riskier number.

Anyway, I’m glad that Theo is sticking around and hopefully from this point on, fans will pick a favorite because the further you get into the competion, you really need to pick your absolute favorite and not assume that that person will be safe. This week kind of proved that for me.

  • RemusL

There’s a certain logic for Theo and Earl being in the bottom 3 this week. People who have more than one favourite may have thought both of them to be safe as neither has previously appeared in the B3. More people may have been inspired to vote for Amberly and Mookie because having been in the B3, they are seen as vulnerable. And yes, whatever regional support Theo and Earl have would be split 3 ways along with Amberly.

So why do Mitch and Drew continue to do so well? Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s a huge mystery to me.

movin2thabeet, despite not having been in the bottom 3, Mitch and Drew still get a lot of negative critiques from the judges. Fans might still perceive them as being vulnerable for elimination and would therefore not want to risk voting for a second favourite. Drew also got the biggest audience reaction for his performance this week so I’m sure that’s reflected in viewer votes as well.

Still, I shake my head at the thought that Mookie is getting the à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“hottieà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ votes now that Sebastian is gone. If thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s the case, it reinforces my belief, yet again, that I have NO IDEA what women want.

marco5ny, I think Drew has inherited the “hottie” votes this week, after getting the haircut and beard-trimming. :) And lots of folks comment on Mitch’s cute factor so I’m sure he’s getting his share of “hottie” votes too.

  • maryannaflapjack

That was shocking, but it’s not like one of the top contestants went home early. Mark’s gone, and all good there. A couple of people who were in danger of overconfidence got a wake-up call. Their fans did too. What’s that leave us? A little drama as we come down to the wire, and that’s cool.

I don’t think Mookie has inherited Sebastian’s cute-vote. Remember, they’re both Toronto boys. Maybe there are a few Torontonians who watch and vote after all.

Mitch has the same Maritimer support that Mark did. Will they transfer to him? If so, things look bleak! I don’t think he’ll pick up a huge percentage of the east coast though. I can see Mookie appealing to the kinda idiosyncratic maritimer, y’know? (I can hope.)

  • RemusL

maryannaflapjack, CI viewership in Toronto is down compared to last year (although it has rebounded a bit from the start of this season) but there are still a lot of people who watch in this region and they do cast votes.

People often refer to Toronto as a single city of 2.5 million people – 5 million if you include the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). However, ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s really a concentrated grouping of many communities (including mine), each with populations in the hundreds of thousands. But being in such close proximity to each other and to downtown Toronto, I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t think there is as great a sense of local community as there may be in more outlying towns and cities. Thereà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s more going on in Toronto, more distractions and competing entertainment options, hence why CI is not at the top of local TV ratings. Also, being surrounded by millions of other people could make you think that lots of other folks must be voting for the local kid(s) so you donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t need to bother.

While I would rank Mookie in my top 4, he’s not my top pick or even second pick. I’m sure many in the GTA would feel the same. For some folks, Drew is their top choice. I actually voted for him in one of the earlier voting rounds but I would rank him 5th now behind Theo, Amberly, Earl and Mookie. It’s kind of amusing to read comments about Drew’s home town support as being the reason he has avoided the bottom 3 so far. Drew’s home town is Collingwood which has a population just over 17,000. I suppose if every person in town able to use a phone were to power-vote for him… but even so, communities have only so many outgoing phone lines and that limitation tends to reduce the effect of power-voting.

Mitch does not have the same support base that Mark does, if you’re trying to lump their local support together. Regional support decreases the more distant and tenuous the relationship between viewer and competitor is. Mitch and Mark have totally different musical styles. Just because they both come from Maritime provinces doesn’t mean their respective fan bases would automatically transfer support after one of them is eliminated. Maritimers have the same wide range of music tastes as the rest of Canada. They have their share of Hedley and Simple Plan fans as well as folks who appreciate Jason Mraz or flock to concerts for U2, Coldplay, Anne Murray and Nickelback.

Mark Day gone – finally. That was long overdue. His performance this week was a trainwreck, and he has not been very good in the competition.

  • leashaj

De-lurking to offer my apologies to any Theo Tams fans for his B3 status this week – I completely forgot to vote! *hangs head in shame* I was working a night shift, so I missed the show, and I feel like an idiot for not remembering to check online for his phone # as I still had time to cast a few votes…

I stumbled upon a site with mp3s of CI performances and will share the link as a peace offering, LOL.
